Well done to all involved in the U23`s team for becoming Champions, what a start to this exciting week, and U23`s winners of Sussex County Cup, What a great sign for the future of Hastings United. "CHAMPIONS"
I confess to this being my one and only U23 game but really enjoyed it with some excellent football being played. Cray were useful but the 1st team experience of some of our boys was always going to give us the edge and, in the end, it was the young Cray keeper who kept the score respectable for the visitors.
Bloomin' cold though !
I have vague recollections of Neville Southall speaking at a Fans' Forum and declaring that there was no point in a club having a league champion Reserve side if the First Team was faring poorly at the same time. Obviously, the playing structure is different these days, but I guess that the point does remain valid.
So, the fact that the U23s have won not only the league, but the County Cup as well, and that we have seen a few more players graduate to the First Team this season, and that the First Team is on the verge of winning the league too, rather adds up to an incredibly successful campaign all round.
Monday evening saw James Hull make it to 30 goals for the season in U23 games, to go with his two for the senior side. On that basis, maybe it's even time to forgive his crimes against footwear!
