Seems a long time ago now since our 3-2 defeat at Ramsgate. They played very well in the first half even if they were fortunate to get away with a foul on Sam Adams before their opening goal. Hastings were much better in the second half but Ramsgate looked a decent side. Hope we play well for 90 minutes today.

Really enjoyed that one. Clearly two good, in-form teams really going for it !
Very nearly scored in the first minute and I feared that bit of bad luck may cost us.
Two excellent second half goals made the difference and while Ramsgate may feel they deserved a draw, I think we posed a greater goal threat throughout.
Agree with Ben as MotM, thought he won lots of important duels today and did a good job as a target man.
Great to see Lloyd on the score sheet and relishing being involved with the U's.
Looking forward to 2022 with great optimism.

I was the one who rejoiced in Agutters departure was told to be careful what I wished for, now how many of you are happier with Gary than you were Chris? Didn’t go today so can’t comment but sounds like we did ok, and promotion is back in our own hands.

Didn't make the game yesterday as trying to keep away from Covid with Christmas coming and a vulnerable person at home but sounds like a good win yesterday and it's nice we are now competing with teams in the top half of the table.
Certainly happier with the last few games I have seen though and football is definitely better to watch and less tedious since Gary took over so agree with ChrisB that I'm much happier now than when Agutter was in charge.

I missed the previous two home games through family illness, so I was very pleased to have been able to go to yesterday's game. I agree with others' comments - this was a very good entertaining match between two in form teams. Ben Pope was at his best - he was winning header after header coping with some very close attention which the referee largely chose to ignore. And his goal - a placed one spinning in off the post - was priceless. Yes, he thoroughly deserved MoM (though as Phil says, the opposition number 14 ran him close for best player on the park).
I think the tactical changes since the change of manager have been subtle. We still keep possession when we can, we still use the Ollie Black long throw (vary it a bit please to keep it effective), but we seem quicker to the ball, less pedictable and slowly seem to be exerting more game control. Perhaps the most encouraging thing of all is that Gary seems to have the whole team and the support staff thoroughly with him - the sheer delight in the celebration of our (excellent) second goal was a testament to that.
Congratulations to the club and to the health authorities for arranging for the club to be used as a temporary Covid vaccination station. There was a very welcome short feature about that on the Saturday evening local tv news.
And, of course, very good that all of this was in front of a thousand plus crowd.

I also cannot argue with the above, it is so refreshing to see football being played at the pilot field again !
So wholeheartedly agree with ChrisB, (who seems to be getting a bit of a fan club on here). Both goals were utter gems, great for Lloyd to score a lovely one as well. Took a while to break them but did it in the end, and in style.
"All I want for Christmas", is a couple of good results.
Merry Christmas To All, & A Very Happy New Year.

There does seem to be an incredibly fine line on here between someone being accused of negativity and someone who is simply expressing an opinion that conflicts with that of another person. And I say that as one who had his fair share of disagreements with ChrisB in my time looking after the website. I dread to think what some of those of a more sensitive disposition would have made of my realistic approach to match reporting.

Having only seen a couple of games so far this season, I obviously cannot add anything to the debate about playing styles, but six wins in eight league games since taking over suggests that Gary Elphick is doing a decent job so far. And comments about performances do seem to have generally been more positive since Chris Agutter’s departure, and certainly not just those from ChrisB.

Let’s hope the good run continues over the festive period, although Whitehawk is bound be another tough game and we dare not underestimate Lancing after their result yesterday.

Happy Christmas everyone!
