Chilly walk, bus, tram and train… looking forward to a pre-match pint in the Lockhart Tavern by the station. I’ve not made it to a home game yet this season but I’m enjoying following United away. A lot of the top ten playing each other today… 3rd v 1st 2nd v 7th 4th v 6th 5th v 9th Could finally crack the playoff positions today but a lot needs to go our way. Come on United!
What’s all this we go again, Agutter has left us in mess and this is looking like a wasted season. If Gary gets us promoted it will be a remarkable achievement.
We go again has become a part of footballspeak over the last few years. It’s shorthand for “we were rubbish, but don’t worry… there’s another game soon. And somehow saying this shows that we care.”
It felt today like we didn’t have any ideas in the final third. Plenty of possession and territory but not much finesse. Andrew looked sharp on debut but I’m not sure we knew how to unlock him.
Both goals were a little gifted to them I thought. I watched the game with a Heath fan who I’m mates with, he felt they never had to get out of second gear and we didn’t pose many problems. They were in a rough trot as well.
I also think Heath came out on top of 4-5 50/50 challenges in the first half and I think that set the tone a bit.
We need more quality in the squad if we’re going to challenge. Especially in the creative attacking space.
Had a lovely pint of Hophead in the Lockhart Tavern.
Well summed up Londontownfan , plenty of possession but had no idea in the box. Haywards Heath had a couple of chances and scored twice . First time this season we have not scored and did not look like it. We have not been in top 5 this season nor won against any of top 5. Yes it’s true we go again Tuesday but vast improvement is needed.
On top of that flipping freezing.
Thanks Phil. Also Chris - I wasn’t having a swipe at you for using that phrase, I’ve just got a bit bored of players and managers saying it, it kind of means nothing when players say it in my opinion.
We huffed and puffed but I don’t know that we knew how to use the strong wind to our advantage. HH did - I heard their skipper in the second half saying play it long every time.
I still think we’re good enough for the play-offs. Come on United!
Depressing afternoon for all at Hastings United. Agree that HH had an easy afternoon and didn't need to exert themselves. I know it's only one game but fail to see that Andrew will add much to what we have already. Could still be playing now and still wouldn't have scored. Our ex-player Sinn'kaye had a nice afternoon.
One point from 15 against the top five tells its own story....we just haven't quite been good enough against the league's top sides and it's cost us.
Two big home games to come before another crack against two top five sides....every game just seems very important at the moment.
To be honest we haven't performed anywhere near the standard we were at in the Autumn of 2019 and every game seems a real battle. Think we need an injection of pace and/or height up front to give us some more attacking options when possession, passing and long throws aren't getting us anywhere. Hopefully something or someone will come along that lifts us to the next level. A more settled side would also help but I know that's not often possible with games coming thick and fast.
Clearly we'll need to put together a run of good results where we take points off everybody to challenge the top five. Hopefully there is no-one in a stronger position than us to do that.
Pretty sure Jack Dixon was playing further forward against Sittingbourne. Spent most of the afternoon alongside Ryan in our own half. But one positive was Lloyd Dawes came on for 10 minutes and didn't go off injured. And we didn't lose 7-0 as happened to me when I played there in the FA Cup in the '70's, when we( Hastings and St Leonards Amateurs) found ourselves down to 9 men after 20 minutes.

honestly dont worry chap....this is a forum for opinions 💪 i can tell your genuine i just think we turn this round tuesday, HH were excellent defensively and deserved the three points...we arent at panic stations and are around the playoffs imo we will come good
Hastings' change of formation in the second half didn't really help and there were constant positional changes for players to cope with. Think Tom Chalmers played in 3 different positions as players were shuffled around. Hope in our next match Jack Dixon plays further forward and we get the ball moving forward much faster.
