Good news- only a friendly. Not so good- Carshalton were much better than Hastings and were capable of passing the ball in the attacking half of the pitch. We didn't create a chance all game and relied on long throws or long diagonal balls out to Kenny. We had 8 first teamers playing. In the last few minutes we tried to play in their half and did ok. It least it was interesting. Does Ollie Black know he didn't pass the. ball forward once in the first half? Ryan and Jack are decent players but operated entirely in our own half. It is so boring watching Hastings pass the ball aimlessly around our defence. We are better than that. Good news- it's never good to win all your friendlies and we don't want to peak too early and surely I must qualify for an award for the first moan of the season!
Beat me to it Tim ,not our greatest performance. Not a lot up front.Where is Lloyd Dawes? Winning 50/50 ticket 36969 won £69…….cannot tell you the winner, but he has been helping at the club for about 100 years and is currently President. Can I also point out that Tuesdays 50/50 was not won and the winning amount,in this case £138.50 goes to the club it does not roll over. Fortunately it does not happen very often but please listen out for the PA announcement or seek out Barbara or myself in front of the main stand.
we were playing a team a division higher with a weakened team with youth and trailists on the bench fellas they bossed us i was very impressed with them but feel your being harsh. id rather play 'aimless passes' than let the oppo have the ball and make the scoreline into a cricket score but my one critisism is I felt we lacked intensity first half (which is not mormally us at all)and they pinned us back and didnt allow us to play our normal game...was a bad day at the office thats all
Worried that the pointless passing has become our normal style of play. Seems we used it at Walthamstow judging by the comments on their Twitter site( they are a level below us) and we use it in most of our matches. Personally believe we are a good enough side to take the game to the opposition and play in a more entertaining way.
Tim I'm really not with you on this we've massively improved as a team and our patience possession game has brought fans back to this club, you don't like it fair enough but it if it wasn't for covid would have had us promoted
Think it wears the crowd down. Most sides don't bother pressing Hastings and have a nice breather on the half way line happy for Hastings to play their own game of passing unopposed to themselves. Don't think we completed one passing sequence in the attacking half during the first half against Carshalton and it wasn't much better in the second half. Would love us to wear sides down by a fast paced attacking style of play.
Have you watched the last three/four years Tim? increase in crowds and crowd noise wouldnt go along with the narrative your painting chap. Carshalton was a friendly where we were unusually off and bang average...we move on
Yes Chris-have been watching since 1961 and think our style of play has changed a bit under Chris. Think we have become slower and more cautious. Hope we revert back to a quicker more attacking style that we were using a season and a half ago. However, as you point out, it is all about results and no one can be critical of our points totals.
As Mrs Booth Jones refuses to engage with my discussions on Hastings United citing marital cruelness I'm making use of the forum to continue to annoy others! Enjoyed watching two teams at the Pilot Field who didn't waste any time in their build up play and tried to get the ball forward quickly. Thought the Peacehaven left back was excellent and all four full backs were piling forward all game. Good to see Jack Shonk on the Bexhill wing getting over a series of crosses and all our ex-Hastings players did ok.
