I wonder what the chances are of this one being on ?
I don't think Hythe drains as well as the PF and if my lawn is anything to go by it will still be saturated.
About an inch of rain is forecast between now and kick-off on Saturday so I suggest anyone thinking of making the trip (I am) checks all available sources of information before heading off.
Reachfields drains very well normally due to the shingle just a few inches down. Nobody can remember the last time Hythe "lost" a match through rainfall although there was a game postponed when the fog came down--but then you guys know about that night !!
But these are of course not normal times and the groundsman has found it impossible to get any sort of machinery on it so far this week. One good thing is often that being right down in the corner sometimes when the weather comes from the south-west it can miss us entirely.
A 9:30 inspection suggests to me that the pitch is saturated and it will be called off early to save anyone wasting their day. A 12:00 inspection would be the expected time for a match with a better than 50/50 chance. So not feeling too hopeful at 01:00 Saturday morning !
Mick, it's all about the amount of rainfall and it's timing. Hythe have scheduled 9.30 because the rain was due to start around 10am and so if the pitch was not playable at 9.30 a firm decision could be made there and then as referees are allowed to take the forecast into consideration. Trouble is though that the forecast is wrong again and it started raining before 8am so that's plan A out of the window!
As regards a check at noon, most clubs will require a decision a lot earlier as it leaves a whole load of people inconvenienced as well as extra expense all round.
