Interesting (and welcome) headache for Chris regarding Saturday's team. Before last night, you'd have assumed that the first-choice front three would come straight back in at Guernsey, but dropping a striker who's just scored eight in one game would be quite harsh...!

Dont think we should take much from last night, E G were dire, no wonder they are bottom of our league, that is not trying to take anything away from Davide, but boy were they bad

Yes, I'm sure you're right. It'll be a good anecdote for years to come, anyway: "I once scored eight in a game and got dropped for the next one!"
Firstly congratulations to Davide and the team. An incredible achievement at any level of football but totally agree with Rev. If you were not there last night don’t read too much into the result as the EG defending was embarrassing and it could and should have been 20. knowing a lot of the players, I have no doubt the u16 academy side would have beaten them last night. Hope my old mate Phil G okay after falling ill at the ground last night 🤞🤞
Been trying to establish just how many of EG's players were first team regulars......but no success. They don't seem to be in the mood to share any information on the match. Strange that !
Best wishes to Phil also.
It might seem a bit picky to moan about a 12-3 win(even Chris b has been positive lately !), but some of our defending was indefensible. I can’t believe we let a team that bad score three. I suppose it was the perfect game to get the silly mistakes out of our system.
Surely everyone must admit that scoring 12 against any opposition is an achievement. Normally after a one sided first half you see teams take there foot off the gas. The boys started quick off the blocks at start of second half scoring in a minute. What impressed me that the coaching staff were encouraging, passing on instructions to keep pressing and working until the final whistle. Even if the opposition were not world beaters ,i believe other teams in our league and league above will look at this result and take note. Sorry to here about Phil g being ill. Hope you and your wife get well soon mate.
Thanks to John ,Mick and Tim for their good wishes.Better now , shan’t elaborate further except to say last night I proved Newton’s Gravity Theory to be wrong.
Agree with Tim, beating any team in the same league by last night's scoreline is quite remarkable and credit to the players for getting stuck in even if there were defensive issues. I was not at last night's game, didn't know it was on. Have to say we have been superb this season but considering how poor this league is, worse than county standard I think, I would not expect anything else. In fact some games at home are almost like pre season friendlies against lower opposition and are almost so one sided it's tedious! But as they say you can only beat what is in front of you and next season in the Isthmian Premier will be interesting and give a better test of our players.
Tim,
Please don't think that I am in any way diminishing our performance last night. Clearly the team, and Davide in particular, were ruthless in front of goal and that's a sign of a good professional approach.
However, TWELVE goals scored in a league game in semi-pro football just doesn't happen. E.G. are the same level as us, albeit top v bottom, so I think we can assume they must have had a fair number of young players who simply weren't anywhere near the quality of our team.
The real positive of course is that we played a mixture of first team and up and coming youngsters who clearly gelled into an effective attacking force and were vastly superior to our opponents.
Not at all , I understand where you are coming from, and I do agree that East Grinstead were not the best. I just think that the run that we are on only defeats in 2 cups ,is a fantastic start to the season and results like this albeit against a weaker side can only help improve the confidence within the coaches, team , board and supporters. The attendances at home are improving average around 500 for league games, 181 at short notice was great. also i have only missed 1 away league game this season and we out number the home fans . I believe the 12 goals will result in us getting even bigger attendances and this league cup is a great learning step for the younger/ academy players.

Phew ....Glad to see your feeling better Phil....Dad sends his best wishes too,he was concerned for you as well

Only defeated in 3 cups......FA CUP , Trophy and Sussex Senior Cup.......although cup runs have always been nice to have ,catch up in the league can be tricky....we all remember 2012/13 .... as great as it was we've suffered enough being relegated that same season . The Velocity Trophy however is proving to be a good way of getting everyone playing or involved regularly. East Grinstead must have been poor , someone pointed out to me that the supporters side did better against the first team than that a few years ago .....must have been the back 4 dealing with the likes of JJ
Tim,
I do agree with you 100%.
The football we are seeing this year is as good as I can remember in a very long time, even though we haven't always scored the goals that we were regularly getting in 2016/17.
There is a real buzz around the place and the home crowds generally keep going up as the quality and entertainment increase.
My point was simply....if you score twelve, you really do need to have a good look at the quality of the opposition.
Two league cup games against East Grinstead this and last season have seen scorelines of 9-2 and 12-3. Of far more relevance to United are the three league games in between that have produced one point. The scrappiest of 1-0 wins the next time we play em will do just fine. I was as amazed as anyone by this game and the Rodari-fest but we all know what really matters.
