I Personally think that we should forget about these cups and concentrate on the League as we are already 4 points behind Cray Valley.
Unlike the FA Cup the prize money for the Trophy winner at Whitehawk is only £3000 with the loser getting £1000, and the reward is a really tough game away to Weymouth who are 2nd in the National South. Clubs from our level rarely get past the 1st round proper.
I would much sooner be playing Herne Bay at home on the 23rd and hopefully picking up 3 points and keeping in touch of the Leaders.
I remember last season when Cray Wanderers were more than 10 points clear at the top, we never did catch them up despite beating them at home, as points in the bag is much better than games in hand and playing catch up.
Another Pointless cup is this Velocity Trophy League Cup which in my opinion is a waste of time, and we look very much like progressing in that.
I know that we go into every game trying to win and its nice to have a good cup run but not if its to the detriment of our League Position especially as we are so desperate to finish top this season.
Velocity Cup ensures that all the squad get game time and the emerging talent gains experience. The selection this year reflects this
Sure, the draw is tough and there does not appear to be a lot of optimism on the Forum regarding tonight
Asa supporter exiled in Cornwall I would love us to get through as Weymouth is a reasonable distance and it would mean I got to see one live game this season
I wonder how the players feel about progress in cup competitions
Certainly the first United made spectacular progress in the Trophy before bowing out at Worcester City after a home draw
Memorable times for supporters, and no prize money then
Having seen this evening's line up I believe it is clear that Chris is giving the league priority over an extended run in the FA Trophy. I can't argue with that. I guess a more favourable draw in the next round may have brought about a stronger team selection this evening.
Interesting that we play Chichester in early December one week after their massive 2nd round FA Cup tie. Let's hope they are suitably 'flat' !
A remarkable win in the circumstances !
Whitehawk fielded the same starting eleven as Saturday while we made SEVEN outfield changes.
Can someone explain how this happened please.
