Another game played on a chilly drenching afternoon.Read Simons notes in the programme stating that he does not enjoy November weather and there were 470 supporters today that would agree with him.As for the game did not see most of the first half but by all accounts we should have had it sewn up. Second half I thought was pretty even and perhaps a draw was a fair result. So it’s off to Whitehawk on Tuesday night which is probably the last thing Chris would have wanted.
Most important thing to come out of today was the injury to Elphick. Spoke to Madster and some other supporters before the game and we all felt we were the best team in the league or very close but needed some luck with injuries during the season with both Stone and Elphick if we were to reach our ultimate goal of promotion. Then blow me Gary goes and gets a bad one, a hamstring pull I assume? Absolute disaster for Chris and the team. Hes been magnificent this season and with no like for like replacement, I assume, if the injury is as bad as it looked, we may have to delve into the loan or transfer market for the first time this season.
I guess a draw was a fair result in the end but I think we were hard done by at one down to a deflected free kick having looked like scoring every time we crossed the half way line before they took the lead.
I think we all hoped we would go on and create as many chances in the second half which surely would have brought a win but that wasn't to be and despite taking the lead, we rather inevitably conceded the inititiative and a late goal.
Despite all those first half chances, I didn't feel we were anywhere near our best today. Firstly, we conceded a lot of possession and secondly we didn't look as sound at the back with Louis as busy today as he has been all season. Let's hope Gary's injury isn't serious as we will need him through a busy Winter.
