No Youssouf Bamba today so I assume he must be injured?
Thoroughly deserved win in the second half, played in difficult conditions! Thought we were fortunate not to have gave away a penalty - but for once, luck was on our side.
Missed some of the first half but based on second half a thoroughly deserved win. All the players from both sides deserve a medal for playing in such conditions. Thought Mongay looked good from what I saw of him and both Jamie and Ollie stepped up to the mark. Back to winning ways ,long may it continue. Finally well done to all supporters who turned out on an awful day.
Fantastic result, with 8 players out injured/ill it would’ve been easy for us to use that as an excuse but everyone stepped up and glad to finally get over our minor blip.....with Cray also losing it’s become a very good day.
I thought our first half performance was pretty average. To be a goal down at half-time was maybe a little harsh, but I felt pessimistic whether, with the scratch side we had out there and the awful conditions, we could get back in the game. So great credit to the team effort which got us the win.
Tom Climpson got a good goal and deserved MoM; but there were other contenders too. I thought Sam Cruttwell in the second half actually looked again the imposing player we know he is, I thought Jamie Fielding had a good game and took his goal well (a mistake by the defender? notwithstanding). I like Ollie Black; yes, I know he's not necessarily a first choice right back but I think he at least knows what's required and gets on with it and his long throws particularly in conditions like today will cause many a team a problem. So I'm glad he's back (from loan?). |I liked Jahmal's performance too. Very difficult for a centre back in today's conditions.
I was at the wrong end to get a clear view of the not given penalty, but it looked bolt on to me. Interested to hear from anyone who got a clearer view!
Three deserved points is a real boost which we certainly needed.
Very good wim today considering the side we had out there and the players missing and the bloody awful weather must have been horrendous to play in,great character shown by the players today now lats keep it going.
Great 2nd half in awful conditions. Played well after a mediocre 1st half in which we gave away yet another bad goal. That tendency so badly needs addressing.
But massive credit to a disrupted side for getting stuck in after half time. Only one side in it and that was a vital three points. If we got lucky with the penalty shout then so be it. U's by far the better team - did really well in ever worsening conditions. Credit to Simon Rudkins for the pitch holding up as well as it did.
Second half display made it worthwhile to be at the Pilot field. And seeing two local players scoring the decisive goals. Interesting to see Hastings playing differently and actually resorting to taking a few long throws. A valuable 3 points and a thank you to the ref for not awarding that penalty!
a really good second half after an awful first half. I thought we were going to get comfortably beaten by VCD after the first 45 minutes. We look so nervous at the back obviously the conditions did not help. But second half we looked fitter and more up for it than VCD and deservedly won in the end although VCD will feel hard done by as that was a stonewall penalty near the end. The new guy up front looked ok but will be glad when Daniel is back. great to break the run of poor results although I was as nervous the ref might abandon it when the ball slowed down in the puddles in the last 10 minutes.
Dreadful first half, lucky to go in at the break only one down, much better second half, great to Ollie back, The penalty appeal? 100% penalty, I was in the main stand down that end, so lucky, but so what, about time. Great come back, everyone showed a lot of guts, well done Chrisb for not taking the bait 👍
I think a factor in the 'two halves' performance yesterday was the weather. We were playing into strong wind and driving rain in the first half. Understandably, some found that rather uncomfortable. In the second half we (for once it seems) used the strong wind at our back to good advantage. In particular, we used corner kicks to great effect, swinging the ball back in to the six yard box which caused all sorts of problems for VCD.
Yes, Chris, we could very easily ended up with less than three points. If the penalty had been given -at that stage of the game - a draw would have been odds on. Also, although the pitch was as ever in great condition - a tribute to Simon - the volume of water coming down was creating pooling water by the end of the game. Had the rain come an hour earlier an abandonment would have been a distinct possibility.
Win wasn't down to luck. Overall VCD created next to nothing and their goal was the result of a mistake in defence. I hear the penalty call late on should've gone their way but the U's were by far the better side in the 2nd half after a poor 1st 45. Would've been a travesty if we hadn't won. All that effort after a bad first half was a great credit to our boys.
