Does anyone remember or know anything about competing in the Kent Midweek League (or cup) in the 90s?
I came across a couple of reports from 1993-94, recording a victory over Folkestone in the 1st round and then losing to Whitstable in the second round. The line-up included well-known first-teamers, but I'm wondering if this was a first-team or reserves competition?
Also on the honours board, it mentions winning the Kent Midweek League in 1994-95, so again am wondering if this was first-team or reserves that won this?
Hastings Town entered the Kent Midweek League and Cup for one season only - 1993/94. I think this was a first team competition but quite often the team included several reserves and even some trialists. Hastings won the league with a record of P18 W 14 D 1 L 3 F 47 A 21 Pts 29. This included two matches awarded to Hastings as the opposition were unable to raise a side.
Yes,it was a similar competition to the old Kent Floodlight League/Kent Messenger Trophy which ran in the 60's and 70's.I think this came to an end when a lot of clubs joined the Eastern Floodlight League which both United and Town competed in for a few seasons.
I can remember the old Kent Messenger Trophy matches . I think , maybe somene can confirm , but United once had a home game v Ramsgate mid 70’s .... Ramsgate turned up without a kit and had to play in our away kit . Those of you who can remember , the home kit ( simlar design to the Welsh and Coventry Admiral style kits of 75/76 ) , We had claret and blue for home and claret and White for an away kit. So both kits were similar .. think we won 5-3 and it was absolutely freezing !! With had some cold days up the Pilot Field but that was particularly cold that night.
Good memory Windy, seen away teams wear our away kits or shirts more than once over the years. Happened about five years ago, (light blue away shirts) but can't remember which game. Added a couple of pics of that wonderful 1970's kit (away) for you. One of my favourites! As you pointed out, the home and away kits were basically the same with just the blue and white colour difference. Sorry could not find colour pictures, you will have to make do with black and white!
