What a great result for Hastings-against a team who beat the league leaders, Kettering Town, 3-1 last week. Thought we might struggle today after those mistakes at Hythe and letting in 2 early goals against an under-strength East Grinstead. However, the team must have played with great character today to overcome the loss of 3 players and still come away with a win.
Have watched Hastings for a long long time but have never seen a game like this . Truly amazing, stupendous stuff .Took an early lead through Daniel although ball may have come off a defender, then a couple of defensive errors allowed Leiston to take a 2-1 lead. Sam Adams then levelled before half time. All the time we were playing good stuff. Second half Sammy converted a penalty followed by a good goal from Kelvin. Then the problems started , Charlie Horlock was given a straight red for handling the ball outside the area when video evidence appears to show the ball hit his chest. I think the club may appeal. Sammy went in goal but could not stop Leiston adding a third. Sam Cruttwell then got a second yellow and we were down to nine. It was then backs to the wall stuff with some tremendous defending . Jamie Fielding was them given a straight red for alleged time wasting .
Tremendously proud of our lads today, even Leiston supporters were saying we were the best team they had seen for some time. Everybody worked their socks but have to give Sam Adams man of the match.....2 goals, controlling midfield and them deputising in goal.
As you can imagine fantastic celebrations after the game and on the coach coming home.
As for me I’m off to look for the blood pressure pills.
Outstanding performance from United who put in a total 90 minutes against a Leiston side 3rd in Southern Prem Central. So good I'm almost reluctant to give Man of the Match to an individual but Sam Adams was something else. The red cards - all indicative of the card happy game football has become and in Charlie's case, from what I hear, wrongly given.
Reaction of one and all at the final whistle after 6 added minutes was very special and a mention for Marcus Garnham in the Leiston goal who clearly felt Charlie's pain and went over with words of consolation as he trudged off after giving his jersey to Sam.
Hythe away a few seasons back was special when 9 man United battled back for a 1-1 draw. Today - keeper red carded after an hour, Cruts a 2nd yellow with 15 or so to go and then down to 8 men when the clockwork referee had another red card moment just as he added 6 minutes on........ The most character filled display I've seen. As for the fitness of the dwindling U's numbers - Leiston stretched them relentlessly - it was exceptional.
Magnificent.

Speaking as one who has made that journey and also as a supporter of another club who have won with greatly reduced numbers at times that sounds like a hell of an afternoon.
Sam Adams is a good guy and an even better keeper. Hope you don't think it patronising but well done and good luck with Monday's draw.
... the main loss will be Charlie for the next round does it carry on to league ban or will it be next fa game
Unless the rules have changed, suspensions take effect two weeks after the event, so they will all coincide with the next round of the FA Cup on 6 October, although Chris Agutter seems pretty confident that video evidence will lead to Charlie's red card being rescinded.
Assuming both were sent off for second bookable offences, Sam and Jamie will just miss the one game each, while Jahmal is one booking away from collecting five cautions for the season, which will likely result in a one match ban too.
Always enjoy posts from Hythe and sorry they lost that thriller to Cray Wanderers yesterday. Going to be a competitive league again. Agree about Sam Adams-always gives 100% every game.

The rules are currently 7 days after the event--same as last season
I think Charlie wont get a ban as it clearly hit him in the chest. The ref only gave it because all the home players run around him shouting handball. But hay what a win it was and the journey back was good and the atmosphere on the coach was cracking. You can see this team is a group of mates who work for eachother.
