You've got to love East Grinstead. For the second season in a row another eight goals, the customary 30minutes wait for a cup of tea and play stopped because of a rodent on the pitch albeit he was by far their best defender. Hastings played really well in atrocious conditions but East Grinstead defensively were quite possibly the worst I have ever seen at this level and it could have quite easily been 12.
Given the conditions it would have been very easy for Hastings to have played more direct today but they played exactly the same way they play week in week out and EG just couldn't cope. First 15 minutes EG could have been a couple up missing two excellent chances but once Rodari put Hastings one up after a shocker from the EG keeper there was only ever one team in it and not sure Charlie touched the ball second half, it was almost embarrassing.
Four very different goals from Rodari today and a much improved performance from that player we all agree will never become an out and out striker , one each from Ollie, an improved Golding, and goal of the match from young Sonny.
Rodari will probably deservedly take all the plaudits but I thought for the second game in a row another super performance from Dixon, whilst Beale and Rowe superb again at full back. Surely these two players have to be absolute priority for signing on that dotted line for next season. Not sure I've seen many better defenders around.
So a good day all round, yes EG were garbage, but Hastings were equally impressive in really tough conditions and 7-1 at any level of football is a top result. Well done to all today and superb support to match.
Excellent report as always John, have to agree East Grinstead were very poor , certainly the worst this season and as you say it could have been double figures. It’s also fun to see the opposition arguing and swearing at one another.
The rodent John refers to was a dead,or possibly drowned Rat discovered by the referee after an hour. Despite pleas to the dug out and officials the poor ref had to remove it himself. Memories of Basil Fawlty and Manuel.
Excellent support today , must have made up at least half the gate.
