Thought Ansu was brilliant as well as Dayshonne ... MOTM ? , not sure if the sponsors had to much tizer at half time .... for me Calum is not firing on all cylinders and I don’t know why . Davide I am afraid deserved coming off , never have been sure what he brings to this team and stand by that statement all season
New boy looks not match fit , but showed some streaks of pace at times before I think cramp struck... small but pacey ... likes him
First half seemed so lacklustre that could have been mistaken for preseason friendly. Can only presume that at half time Chris told them that Santa would not be coming down their chimneys if they did not buck up a bit. Whatever it was it certainly worked. Second half so much better and deserved our win. As for MOM I would have gone for Charlie, probably best keeper in this league.
Motm for me was Janneh. He gets better every game.Could not really argue against Calum getting the nod.Although he hasn't been scoring, which is a strikers job,he always makes himself available and makes so many intelligent runs.He works his socks off for the team.
Game was so anaemic and slow in the first half that the temperature could have been 30 degrees rather than 1. Second Half was much better from Hastings but feel sure we would have played better with Sam and Jack in the starting line up.
I thoght we played some decent football in the first half but the final ball was not right. Second half it clicked and we got a deserved three points. Have to agree about Charlie, he kept us in the game first half and was my MoM. Crutts was great today, seemed to cover the whole pitch. Ansu also played well working his socks off for the whole game. Nice to see Adam back to fitness and playing like a veteran. Good win by a great young team.
I don’t see that as any improvement we were awful in the 1st half only Charlie and poor finishing stopped us being at least 2 down. 2nd half we improved a bit and just shaded it. Until we put in a decent 90 mins then we are not making significant steps forward.
The only football we played in the first half was deep in our own half while the Whyteleafe team were having a rest watching our aimless passing. Don't see the point in passing the ball around our defence if the end result is a long ball upfield-if that is the end result why not do it straight away. All the time the slow paced passing was going on our three front players were virtual motionless, one on the right one in the middle and one on the left-almost a total lack of movement. Presume the team have been told to play like that but it certainly made it a trouble free half for Whyteleafe. Thankfully in the second half we played more football in the opposition half and players like Ansu were running past opposition players. We are still a team in transition but agree with Chris that our first half performance was pretty dire.
Came away with a real spring in my step, which was lucky as my feet were frozen. There was a point not long into the second half when it was really difficult to see where a goal was going to come from, as lots and lots of possession produced no end product. There was an understandable, if unhelpful, sense of frustration from the stands as passes went sideways and backwards, and you could see how it might all turn sour quite quickly.
I think you find out a lot about your players in that situation, especially if they're young. Easy to hide, easy to duck responsibility. That's when you need your creative and attacking players to make things happen, to want the ball, to want to do things with the ball. And the response was absolutely terrific: a ten or fifteen minute spell in which Golding, Walker, Janneh and Davies all answered the call, backed up by those deeper who'd remained patient and composed. On the face of it, you could say that a win courtesy of an own goal and a penalty is a bit streaky, but both goals came as Whyteleafe simply buckled under the pressure.
True, the first half wasn't all that, although I tend to agree with Father Xmas that the final ball was lacking more than anything else. Also true that I'd find it hard to look beyond Charlie Horlock if I were awarding 'man of the match'. But I was really buoyed by the second half: it took real character and determination to turn that around.
But the only difference to recent weeks was it was the 2nd half we played not the 1st.
Well, fair enough...but I didn't really see it like that. That's the first time this season (and I accept I haven't been to every game) that I've seen the team take a losing and deteriorating position and, rather than merely salvaging something, emphatically turn it around, really turn the tables on an opponent. As I say, that takes character and determination.
Away to Hythe was a 90 min performance and scoring in the last min to secure a draw showed real character. This team is improving all the time and is capable of turning our season round.
Football all about different opinions. I thought Hythe was an enjoyable game which we dominated for 35 minutes. Wouldn't agree that we dominated for any of the rest of the game although we did have some good moments in an end to end game. Pleased in the end that we came away with a point.
Still have an issue with our team selections. Cannot see why Jack Dixon and Sam Adams didn't start against Whyteleafe if they were fit.
