Just been watching the Confederation Cup. I think the video ref system being trialled is slowing the game down and willl ruin football. Let the officials make the decisions and leave well enough alone.

Think Steve this is partly behind the proposed drastic rule changes. Think I have said before when I used to go to Quins Rugby before video ref 3pm ko would finish by 4:40 at the latest. Since vr games now finish 4:50 at the earliest usually nearer 5. So it definitely slows game down, think TV games will go on more than 2hrs if vr comes in.
So be it. I dont enjoy rugby any the less since the video aspect was introduced and so far as top grade football the more the better if its used to hammer cheating. I detest the way football at the top level has sat on its hands with evidence of cheating from all angles. Great example to set our kids eh? All a moot point seeing that it wont affect Bostik South football unless Dan submits some of his excellent video! I must have watched Frannie's goal at Dorking 100 times.

I am all for catching cheats but the proposal for that is post match video refereeing, I don't want to see the game slowed down in the way it is being in the Confederations Cup.
Understood Steve. If Football goes the way of rugby and makes use of technology (that's been there years anyway), then people will get used to it being used during games. I'm not sure the use of TV during football matches will take as long as it does in Rugby anyway. Two totally different sports and there is already goal line technology in the top division anyway. Chris goes to watch Quins, I keep meaning to get up there for a game but have to settle for watching it on the box and the lengthy incidents of TV referrals tend to be 15 or 16 people in a heap on the try line - ref can't see if the attacking side has scored. You won't get that in football.
But I realise not everybody will be ecstatic about it. I think the proposals for dealing with penalty box hang gliding, feigned injury (I was truly disappointed to see Gary Cahill doing a face clutch - FA Cup Final I think - when there was no contact at all), etc etc, do not go far enough. The penalties post match need to be really harsh - such as points and goals deducted plus long bans - and if they ever are, they'll hardly have to be used once the message gets through to the Oscar wannabes out there.
It's seeing them continually get away with it that bugs me - all the more so when what they get up to is there for all to see. The media could do it's bit too - "Shin clutch of the week", "Roll of the month", "Red card to opposition ploy of the season".....
Not for everyone I know but cheating is a festering sore in football which has been allowed to, er, fester. Hmmm, I see several home programmes already sorted so far as "Gut Feeling" is concerned!
I hope you're right Simon but they need to get it much better than it is at the moment. Maybe one referee instead of three would help. Totally agree about cheating, it needs to be eradicated asap.
In rugby its one more person added to the team - the TMO, Television Match Official. It doesnt need to be complicated and in the case of cheating, once the cheats realise there are serious post match penalties for what they have been allowed to get away with for years, most of it will stop. Giving players post match yellows or bans isnt enough. No excuse for football not dealing with cheating.
