Simon Newstead does a fine job reporting on matters United and has proved a more than capable successor to Simon Carey. But - minor thing I suppose - to say we pushed Dorking close on this occasion doesn't really do our blokes justice. We gave that lot three decent games this season, the 2-1 defeat at their place was decided by a Billy Medlock deflected goal, the 2-4 defeat at The Pilot Field was daylight robbery after United got back to 2-2 following a poor opening 20 minutes and Tuesday night will stick in my craw for years, even replacing the Crawley FA Cup defeat back in 1994 or 95 as my worst day following Town and the two Uniteds.
There are others of course - United staying up on the last day of the 1984-85 season only to fold a few weeks later, home defeat to Cambridge City towards the end of the following season which destroyed Town's promotion dreams ( I STILL recall traipsing up Elphinstone Road that evening afterwards shaking my head), rulebook relegation in 98-99, relegation in 02-03, most of the Walters regime (the club has still not got back all the supporters who called it a day while he was in charge) etc etc.
It's not all gloom and doom of course. I'm a boy compared to some of you real long time supporters with my 41 years as a fan following my local club and Jeeeez there have been some good times too - and will be again. There is ambition to take United to higher levels, a new stadium looks a seriously good prospect and if we can hang onto this team that did us proud on Tuesday night then all being well, we will get it right next season.
Dan Willett captured some great moments on video this season - none better than Frannie's goal on Tuesday and the way the players and supporters celebrated the moment was special and I was privileged to be part of it.
