This will be a really tough game and for me Sittingbourne are one of the best sides I have seen this season. Any other year a point would be a decent result but Hastings just have to go on a long winning streak now to get into that top six. Going for a tight 2-1 victory for the U's.
Have to agree John, I think Sittingbourne probably best opposition seen this season although league table does not show this.
Bert, stand to be corrected , but I believe your picture shows the stand at their previous ground Bourne Park.

Bloody awful club house. Totally unprepared for the United hoards in recent years and just one old boy serving food, drinks and beers. He may have even been cooking as well. Also remember a few years back a shocking first half performance under Terry White and a certain person going into the changing room at half time to give out a serious bollocking whilst we all listened outside. Could just imagine Dave Ormerod doing likewise
Sounds like a good second half display and two decent goals from Kiernan to secure the win.
Yet another forward who knows where the goal is must be a very nice problem for Darren.
I see our Bank Holiday opponents lost 5-0 at home today...I wonder how keen they will be to play US on Monday ?
Another weird and wonderful day in the crazy life of a Hastings supporter. For 70 mins today Hastings were as poor as I have seen them all season. On a dreadful pitch, Hastings found it very difficult to play their normal passing game and apart from the opening 10 minutes Sittingbourne appeared to be the team in control, without ever putting us under any sustained periods of pressure. From really their first opportunity, Pidge once again didn't get enough on a punch from a corner and the ball was blasted back in to give them the lead. They then continued to take control as Hastings struggled to string two passes together but only really created half chances before Hastings first meaningful passing move of the half, just before half time, resulted in the excellent Frannie smashing the ball into the back of net. 1-1 maybe a little harsh on Sittingbourne, maybe not, but great timing for Hastings and surely second half we would push on. But against my better judgement Hastings had a stinker of a second half as Sittingbourne dominated possession, won every 50/50 and deservedly took the lead after a goal mouth scramble that seemed to go on forever. Then for me came the turning point. Within 5 mins of the Sittingbourne equaliser, the ever frustrating Pidge pulled off a fantastic save to deny Sittingbourne a 3-1 lead. From that point Hastings dominated the last 20 and could have won by an even bigger margin. Firstly the busy Stannard slipped the ball under the keeper after a great through ball from Dickinson. Then Hughes Mason, who up to then didn't look like he wanted to be there after coming on for Harris, scored a magnificent curler into the bottom corner from the edge of the area and 8mins later lobbed the keeper to incredibly put us 4-2 up. Either side of this Collin, Bodkin and Pritchard could all have scored more.
4-2 was really harsh on Sittingbourne but how often this season have we been on the end of something similar? we were poor, apart from the last 20mins, but managed to grind out a win and what a win that could prove to be. I thought the usual brigade of Collin, Bodkin and Stannard were all excellent today but for me I thought Butcher, who appeared to play in an unfamiliar role in front of the defence was my MOM.
The only disappointment today was some really unsavoury incidents with the Sittingbourne fans in the 2nd half today. Banter is banter, but some of what went on today was beyond what is acceptable and very fortunate something pretty nasty didn't happen in the end, I thought they really let their team down today.
Back to the positives though and a great win, in difficult conditions and way below our best but what a great win it was still against a really decent Sittingbourne side.
Spot on as usual John,at times we were awful. We certainly know how to attack though. The joke going round was that the Police turned up at the end to arrest our team for daylight robbery. However three points ,onwards and upwards.
Shan't comment on the speed of their tea bar............kids might read this.
Really enjoyed it today ... the game changed when Hughes Mason came on for jack Harris who really wasn't happening all game
however we were poor hughes mason saved the day
I disagree with the home fans though , i sat at their end in the second half and too be fair they sang their hearts , nothing felt dodgy or dangerous about it ... least they had passion ... didn't bother me or upset my partner who applauded them
funny ground , didn't like it ... nice people and good bar area who served becks blue which fit a tee total bloke is like Xmas for me
if these are modern grounds , let's stay at the pilot field ... I think sittingbourne have financial problems and you can see why with the attendance , crap catering and club shop
Pidge , always entertaining but possibly let out of jail again
Have no idea Chris how you were supposedly standing with the Sittingbourne fans in the 2nd half but failed to see or hear the trouble between the two sets on two or three occasions, were you in the home end?. A couple of fans may wish to make their own comments on what happened and what was said, but not nice to see fans squaring up to each other in front of children and families. It all kicked off in the Hastings end not the Sittingbourne end.

Fair play if I missed it , sat behind the goal at the club shop end .....
Sad if there was , I did not see it .... I like the word suppossed ...i don't need to make it up mate as I was there .... maybe the wrong end but no need for a 'told u so ' .. its about the football , not about cried bother ... done all that on the 80's and that's where it can stay

To put it simply the trouble that occurred was caused by one of our fans dishing out an unsavoury comment and not being able to take one back, I'm not saying that either was the correct thing to do, but you should expect to get something like that in return. The Sittingbourne fans sang throughout the game and were quite witty at times, in fact several of them shook my hand at the end of the match as i acted as a rather impromptu peace maker during the trouble. One thing i will point out though was that their steward was just joining in with those fans and never did any stewarding, the one moment were it looked like it might kick off he did absolutely nothing...
A pretty accurate report from a Sittingbourne prospective.
Sittingbourne’s big weakness this season has been conceding late goals in games they were set to win.
None more so than this New Year’s Eve battle, when they twice led and were much the better side before going down to a three-goal burst in just 16 minutes near the end.
What a shame for their biggest crowd of the season on a sunny afternoon, but Sittingbourne have only themselves to blame for defeat as they missed some great chances when they were bossing an entertaining game.
Not for nothing are Hastings the leading goalscorers in this division, and they remain in with a great chance of a play-off place, but they were there to be beaten on this occasion.
Sittingbourne made two enforced changes from the side that drew at Faversham on Boxing Day with injured pair Steven Ita and Ricky Gundry replaced in the starting line-up by Hicham Akhazzan and youngster Connor Wilkins.
The only goal Wilkins has scored for the first team was early in the 1-1 draw away to Hastings in September, and he went and thundered another one past them here.
Hastings’ experienced keeper Lennie Pidgeley, whose credentials include playing for Chelsea in the Premier League, punched out an 18th minute corner from Akhazzan. Wilkins met it full on the volley on the edge of the area and it powered through, low and hard, for a memorable goal.
Anthony O’Connor shot just over from an excellent Akhazzan cutback and Remell Davis was just wide from an O’Connor cross as Sittingbourne piled on the pressure in search of a second goal.
But Hastings pegged them back on 36 minutes when Collins, who could surely still be playing at a higher level, pounced on a half-chance to score comfortably.
Sittingbourne had only themselves to blame, needlessly giving the ball away for a throw-in, and then caught out in defence as a long diagonal ball was whisked over the defence for Stannard to set up the goal.
Sittingbourne came out for the second half full of determination and a period of frantic pressure ended with them taking a deserved 53rd minute lead.
Wilkins played the ball outside him to Tom Carlse, who showed great poise to beat a defender and then shoot with his wrong foot into the top far corner. A great strike from an excellent player who is fast closing in on being the club’s top scorer this season – despite playing at left-back!
Then came the period to rub it in and get two goals in the clear as Sittingbourne continued to dominate with some good attacking play.
Davis had the best chances, twice in front of goal with only the keeper to beat but each time Pidgeley stopped the shots with his legs, and then Jono Richardson got in a great position for a header on goal against his old club only to see it blocked.
Hastings hadn’t had much of a look-in at all, but they equalised on 72 minutes when sub Hughes-Mason played in Stannard to score from close range.
It was still Sittingbourne pushing forward but Hastings caught them out twice on the counter-attack, Hughes-Mason scoring both, once with a beautiful curling shot into the far corner and then again when he got in behind the defence and cleverly lobbed the advancing Simon Overland.
What an escape for Hastings and what a disappointment for Sittingbourne. But no time to mope as high-flying Greenwich Borough are the visitors on Bank Holiday Monday for what will be another tough examination of their potential to finish at least in the top half of the table.
