After a second half display against Chatham who the travelling supporters won't ever forget it is now home against
Greenwich Borough are on place 4 in the table with 38 points out of 18 games.
Scored 43 and conceded 23 goals. Top scorer: Robert Denness with 11 goals.
Back in September we lost 2-3 against them; after 4 minutes 0-2 behind; then 2-2 and lost in the end both the game and Barry Cogan by a red card.
Greenwich won their last game away to Faversham 2-5 : after 71 minutes it was still 2-2.
And we? a 7-0 win in a away game is to say at least very remarkable. With probably MOTM Simon Johnson and substitute Harry Stannard who scored both twice is was a great 45 minutes display.
But now against a top 5 placed team in the League and now we will more learn about our actual status. With the promising signings of striker Hughes- Mason and left back Thorbourne we have filled in some gaps.
Hopefully a lot of people will come to TPF and see another great display from our lads.
A very good 3-0 win against a well organised Greenwich side. I thought we were fortunate to go in 0-0 at half time - thanks to some last ditch defending and several excellent saves from Pidgely. Another great second half performance saw us use our attacking pace to put Greenwich under pressure they couldn't handle. I won't begrudge Hughes-Mason his MoM; but there were quite a few other contenders! Among them Pidgely, Sam Cruttwell and Bodkin. But,overall, a really good team effort and particularly good to see us play the game out safely and keep a clean sheet.
Excellent from every Hastings player against a very useful Greenwich team.Missed the first 40 minutes but what I saw was a thoroughly professional performance. We showed real determination and fought for every ball all over the pitch. Some of our passing, especially towards the end of the game was really pleasing to watch.Came away from the game really pleased with our showing tonight and hope we can continue in this style.Only disappointment was the low attendance.
Was just about to make that very same point Conquest. We've been playing some good, attractive football this season and deserve bigger crowds than we've been getting
Im with Geoff on this game. GB were clearly the better side in the 1st half and 0/0 at ht perhaps flattered us. But the 2nd half was a different story and our goals were all well taken from good passages of play. We have shown now what we can do. Now its turning good 45 mins into good 90 mins.
Very good performance tonight but, in fairness to Greenwich, we were rather flattered by the score line and they probably wonder how they ended up on the end of what looked like a bit of a stuffing. Clearly this was just destined to be our day. There were certainly some goood performances but I would say it was the remarkable work ethic throughout the team that earned us the points today. Full credit to Darren for that...clearly they are enjoying it and want to play for him. That was important because I reckon we had far less of the ball than in any other home league game this season...so to keep up that level of effort WITHOUT the ball took some doing. So, now 50 goals in 15 league games ! I can't remember that ever happening before. But it does make you wonder what the team has to do to get a few more people through the gate. That has got to be the most disappointing aspect at the moment. You certainly can't fault the level of entertainment.
Wasn't just us with a poor gate tonight - though it is certainly the case that the season's figures are pretty poor compared to previous seasons. But tonight - Tonbridge only had 303, Folkestone 283 while Worthing pulled in 519 for Havant who would have brought a fair few of their own supporters. 238 is a low gate by our standards, but it does look as if other clubs are in the same boat. Maybe it's the pre christmas thing. Also, Greenwich brought no support I could see.
If they had little luck tonight then so what - evens up for United getting nothing at their place earlier this season. That was a fine second half performance. Well done all.
Hastings were average and pretty scrappy first half but what a testament firstly to the team for still holding, fairly comfortably, a decent Greenwich side, whilst playing well below the standards set this season, and what a testament to Darren once again, who for the second game in a row changed an average 0-0 performance into a barn storming victory with whatever he may say and do at half time. To be honest, I think the biggest thing for Hastings last night was the injury to Steve Watt and introduction of Harry. I thought without him we looked a lot more solid at the back and surely Harry Stannard has to play every game, although I do believe Steve has a huge influence both in the changing room and from the line. Harry's energy, effort and skill for someone so young is great to see and in the 91st minute he was sprinting the length of the pitch to defend a counter attack. In fact the overall team work and high pressing was fantastic by the whole team throughout the 2nd half. Darren certainly has the team super fit. And as for our finishing, that continues to be as good as anything you will see at this level and goals coming from everywhere. Second top scorers in the league from the least amount of games and yet not one player in the top 14 league goal scorers. This really is a team effort.
Thought young Cruttwell's long passing was top draw last night, Frannie impressive once again, Pidgely now the keeper we all expected, and Matt Bodkin....just the best player in the league by a million miles. But for me, the real unsung hero once gain was skipper Ollie Rowe. What a magnificent player and he just never makes a mistake or has a poor game. Just really impressed with everything that is going on at the moment and just one central defender away from having a promotion winning side.
I agree with John's point (above) about Steve Watt. He has abundant quality and the experience; but, sadly, no longer the legs for the pace of a typical game. As a matter of urgency, we need a more nimble central defender ready and able to start all our remaining games. But Steve still has major roles to play for us this season. He was excellent last night in the second half encouraging and correcting errors from the dugout. One particular bellow of 'SHAPE'! was particularly timely, when we were in serious danger of over extending and conceding a breakaway goal. I suggest his best role for us is as assistant manager and also as substitute ready to come on for the last 15 minutes and attack set pieces at either end when we need to secure / defend a goal.
Sooooo refreshing to see 2nd halves of games where we take control and dominate teams and we always look like scoring late in the game, must be primarily down to fitness but certainly right things are being said at half time. For years we've dreaded the seemingly almost inevitable 2nd half collapse, not this season!
For me once again Bodkin was clear MOM, such a classy player and full of workrate as well but think he must have ran out of room in his fridge for the bottles of fizz so it's being shared around more!
A thougherly deserved win against a good side. I know Sam C doesn't like playing at centre back but what a class performance from someone so young in an unfamiliar position. We are looking a very good side now and we still have Coley and Steve to come back from injury. Two timely and good signings from Darren and the fitness of the whole squad show what a good job the board did in appointing the manager and his staff. I just love the way we play football. As for the attendance, all I can say is it is their loss. Sitting indoors watching overpaid "stars" in the Champions League or enjoying what we were entertained by last night, it's a no brainier.
Really enjoyed a top game of non-league football between 2 good sides. Unlike Mick I thought Hastings fully deserved their win! A real team effort from a committed and talented footballing side. Enjoyed meeting our new striker on the train down from London-a really pleasant character as well being a more than useful player! Well done to the management and coaching staff for assembling a team which plays a lot of good football. Really deserve bigger attendances.
