Can anyone remember us scoring 7 away from home before ?
I remember us winnng 6 - 0 at Sheppey in the FA Cup, but that must have been 45 years ago.
Can't recall any 7s though.
Another day in the crazy life of a Hastings supporter. 0-0 at half time, scrappy game on a difficult surface, too many misplaced passes, a little dodgy at the back, and despite still being much the better team, only a couple of efforts from young Climpson that came back off the woodwork. 2nd half, like watching Barcelona. Slick passing, great movement off the ball, solid at the back and absolutely ruthless in front of goal. It could have been double figures as we ripped them apart time after time, hit the woodwork for a 3rd time and had a perfectly good Ollie Rowe goal incorrectly disallowed. Too many goals to talk about but pick for me was an absolute stunner once again from Stannard who came on as a 2nd half sub and tore Chatham apart.
The big positives from today though were the two new boys whom I imagine didn't even know the names of half the team but fitted in seamlessly and looked like they had been their all season. A big well done to all but especially Darren Hare. Scrappy first half but whatever he said in the half time team talk worked a treat. Now on to big one on Tuesday against a Greenwich team that put 5 past Faversham today. Can we now do the same against a top 5 side????
I think the rain helped with our game as the pitch was poor for our type of game and it improved with a good wetting. Great entertainment in the second half and lots of smiling Hastings supporters at the death. Simon Johnson my Man MoM and agree with John about the new boys.
So happy for Simon, great player, what a result, again, I know another poor team in the bottom part of league, but you still have to score, and we did, oh Mick, Sheppey was 1969, I was there, were you?
Yeah, I was at Sheppey in 1969 but I think was a bit too young for Dover in 1962.
Curiously my family went back to a Sheppey game earlier this year as guests of Ernie Batten. But that's another story.
Gotta say thought young Tom Climpson did well overall at Right Back. A couple of worries very early on in the first half but improved hugely around the 25th min until the end, got forward well and worked nicely as a combination overlapping with Bodkin in front of him throughout the game and hit the woodwork twice himself. Good to see young players holding their own alongside the more experienced heads.
A very enjoyable game to watch and an amazing last 20 mins. But again the gulf between the top and bottom half was highlighted again. Tuesday is a massive game we must show we can beat the better sides. Win tues and saturday the playoff positions wont be far away.
Sad world we live in. With gates like Chatham get I don't suppose they have a high budget. Sack the manager for a lack of resources seems to be the way of things.
Poor old Chatham, what a week! Lose 7-0, lose their manager and tonight game abandoned after 26min whilst drawing1-1 v Faversham. Pitch was pretty poor on Saturday so god knows what it was like tonight.
