Here we go yet again are we incapable of keeping a manager for more than one season we will never go anywhere if we can never keep a manager pi##ed off
Thing is .. they were on que with the 2 year plan .... year 1 steady the ship, year 2 push for promotion,
We definitely finished in a better place this year than we did last year ... so in my eyes mission accomplished. Sad that we'll have to start again from scratch next season.
Just hope it won't be a step to far that sees united heading for the county leagues.
What ever happens now and whoever is appointed manager, this constantly calling for heads to role has to stop.
And I would like to wish Gary and Danny all the best for the future, and not forgetting Johnny Masters (keeper coach) who also leaves the club today.
Sat behind billy today and there was an air of resignation .... Not sure he will be there next year ....lots of whisperings going on around the directors box .... Sad to see today ... looked like we gave inΒ
Shame to see Garry resign
The results have been inconsistent and players themselves with bans, holidays etc haven't help the push for promotion and The U's have under achieved.
I know Gazza/Danny and Lighty personally as good friends and know this would of hurt not achieving play offs and even promotion as this was the club that brought him here all those years ago as a player and is a place where he would of loved to achieved .
In the end they've called it quits, with some calling for their heads on more than one occasion, which is a shame cos Garry was the name 12 months ago nearly everyone wanted to carry the U's forwards .
I wish them all the best
Jeeez - I don't believe it. Yes, frustration at the hot and cold season but we have seen it before as have other clubs. Peter Sillett needed time to get it dead right as did George Wakeling and I'm sure Garry and Danny would've done the same. Very sorry to see this happen.
So where is the evidence to say things would have improved, there was no improvement today on performances in October. They have no track record as winners, any number of management teams would have done as well with the resources available
No track record Chris? Like getting from the County Lesgue to Conference and keeping part time Eastbourne Boro there 4 years in a full time league. I was as frustrated as anyone at the hot and cold displays and some selections baffled me - but all managers have supporters scratching their heads at times!
But lets see who replaces Garry. Now is a good time as any to start again with a new season.
Cut players wages and you will get players who want to play for Hastings. players we have who stay are players we want. we are a soft touch. more money than sense.
Can't see how 7th as opposed to relegation escape is not progress. I wish Gary and his team had stayed to finish the two year programme. I have also been at odds with Gary's team selection and formation at times but that is football. Personally I would like to see a combination of Razor and Terry appointed now to give them a chance to build a team on the foundations left by Gary.
Thanks for everything Gary, wish you had stayed but I think that the negativity aimed at managers at this club would try Ghandi's patience. Good luck for whatever comes next.
Budget ? Or player Motivation ? I think that's the issue . I know it's difficult to compare but look at Chelsea ... Overpaid players , season ended around Xmas and now surprise surprise !! Some of their players that have been missing all season are Β now motivated to put in a decent shift ... Could that be because they want a Champsions league club , or even a Europa placed club if it comes to it , to come along for them in the summer ? Β Β Personally I just want to see motivation every game ! I'm not saying Garry and didn't do that ... But sometimes players need to motivate themselves .Β
Im glad you said that Steve, I recall him saying that the budget should be cut and reinvested for this season and yes it was cut, not straight away I hasten to add, (rightly so when it was clear to see that we weren't going to be promoted) however it was still only a token reduction and would have still been one of the highest in the league.
Player motivation can be difficult to judge as a spectator and not actually knowing the players. However, I would say that we didn't look the hardest working or fittest team in the league-which at Ryman South level must be an important factor in a team's success.
I believe a number of our players have played at a higher level. If our budget is a good one for the Ryman South just how much of an incentive is it to get promoted to play in a higher standard with more travelling and little, if any, more money?
Even though progress was not as expected under Gary and Danny, it is probably a disadvantage to start all over again with a new management team and new players.
Thought we were a little unlucky against Herne Bay and looked much the better team for the first 20 minutes or so.
Jack McClean's injury certainly affected us- he has looked a very useful player. Always worrying this season when we had to defend a corner or free kick and it was no different yesterday.
The best way to motivate is with money. Reward for success, what's wrong with 50% for turning up 75% for draw 100 % for win. This will not only make players give 100% but hopefully stir them into not letting teammates down.

Look along the coast a little for your answer to that was it Worthings players who played for no money at all last season
I'd say that structure is pretty much unworkable. What happens with injuries, suspensions, postponements, 2 games in a week............I like the idea of incentives but they have to be practical. And what happens if a striker scores 4 goals and the team lose 5-4? He's done his job but he'll only get half pay? It isn't just about money, it's about mentality. That's why I've always favoured younger players with legs who still have ambition and have something to prove - not journeymen who go from one club to another, season after season, based upon how much they can get.
So what is it with players we sign, perform before they join us and when they leave, but so many under perform for us. I think this is the key question when the next manager is picked wanted someone who has a track record of getting the best out of players

Β A fair comment, Chris, in my view; and one which goes further than the merits or otherwise of any particular management team we have engaged in the past.Β
Getting the best out of the players is the key thing for me. Having 11 bad players giving their all is better than 11 good players not trying. This club has been a mess for a while, and season after season a strong squad just doesn't perform as it should (With the exception of a few regulars). We need committed players who genuinely will give their all for the club. Winning promotion has meant a lot more to the fans than it has to the players for too long now
Motivation isn't all about money. Lawrie McMenemy has written books on the subject and he used to give speeches to firms "10 ways to motivate staff without using money". Fortunately my firm was to mean to hire him.
Think that's a great shout Gaz but as has been said on many occasions, Dean is employed by a Championship club, why would he want to lose that and take on the poison chalice?
I'm sure Tommy Warrilow will deservedly come up again or how about Chapman and Tuck at Burgess Hill. Keep hearing they have run out of money and may just bring a few down withΒ them. Or how about someone like Malcolm Porter at South Park or Chris McGinn at Carshalton who both play attractive football and appear to do well every season despite not paying wages.
As an alternative to these managers who are good with low budgets, There's at least one big name, very successful at a higher level, localish based manager available that maybe could be possible to get but very significant money would be required if we went down that route I'm sure!
And Downsnan has just mentioned him as I posted, lol

Regarding potential new managers; I think everything depends on what strategy the Board wish to adopt. The Board have a indicated that they have a medium / long term strategy for the club; but few details of that (beyond some comments in the last programme about the Elphinstone Club) have emerged. I can entirely understand their reticence to talk about matters which are commercially sensitive. And I don't expect the Board to be precise about the Club's budget. But the Board have been in place for over a year and this season has plainly not gone to plan. So if the Board wish to give substance to their claim to increase community involvement, I would suggest the time is coming due for them to outline what they wish this club to achieve over the next few years and - without perhaps going too far into specifics - how they propose to achieve their objectives.
Without in any way being critical of anyone, least of all the Board who I think have acted well in their visible actions, it really is pointless to speculate about big money managers if the Board have neither the will nor resources to carry that further. If the reality is that funds are limited, well so be it. Then we must cut according to our cloth. In that scenario I would discount Chris' argument for an 'outsider' and go for the 'Hastings' option of some combination of Sean Ray and Dean and Terry White building a team of primarily local based players. That is not a swift route to success. So, it seems to me to be a requirement of that route that the Board should give a guarantee of one year tenure at a low criteria (survival) and two years tenure at a modest criteria (play offs) in order to give the management team time to build.
This is only my opinion Geoff but I think we would have genuine problems keeping a sizeable support from the beginning of the season if the squad was built along such low aiming lines in which survival in The Ryman South was considered an acceptable achievement from the beginning which would have a self defeating further knock on effect on the ongoing budget.
If a nearly playoff place this season after the previous seasons disapoontment is to be seen as progress then we surely need to build on it and aim for promotion through whatever means. ( playoffs etc )
Am I right in thinking the sponsorship deals signed at the beginning of the season were a 2 year deal? In which case presuming the money is provided evenly I'd imagine our budget will be once again higher than most if not all other clubs in the division and players of more than sufficebt means should be capable of being acquired to achieve that goal. Also by having shown ambitions of promotion you tend to keep the crowds higher early on which will further help the budget.
Tbh I'm not sure the club can afford to wait possibly 3 seasons for a decisive promotion bid out of this league if we want to keep our crowds and therefore future budgets respectable. I know that was based on the assumption that the budget was significantly cut but I dont think that will significantly be the case.
