After the narrow win against EGT we have a home match against
Molesey are currently the number 8 in the table with a slight chance of coming in the play offs. They played 43 matches and got 74 points. Scored 83 and conceded 75 goals. Top scorer : Palmer with 22 goals.
And we ? Still a chance of getting in the play offs but Worthing win yesterday means that we, Faversham and Corinthian are the 3 clubs who will go for it.
After champions Folkestone who scored 95 goals we are - like Guernsey - on 92 goals. Think a lot of goals are coming lately from Billy Medlock who has shown great form!
Hope we can win this game and take revenge of the defeat 2 weeks ago against them ( 2-1 in the last minute ).
If we don't win it, then for 99% we will miss the play offs and starts the campaign already for next season.
But with a big crowd at The Pilot Field i hope for a entertaining match and valuable points.
Well played United - revenge for that last minute loss at their place recently. As you were with every one else winning and we are still dependant on other results over the next fortnight to see if we finish in a lottery place. Faversham have that crucial game in hand - but as we know only tooooo well - games in hand don't always count for anything! I detest playoffs - but as that's the only way up - so be it..........
Highlights - great goal Zac, great move seeing one Sam set up the other for a 2-1 lead, that unreal goal line clearance by the Molesey 8 and Johnno in midfield - he was outstanding.
96 league goals - that 100 is attainable.
Fingers crossed Billy's ok. Several crunching challenges out there today and while it's good to see cards stay in a referee's pocket for a change, it was a mystery there weren't a few yellows shown.
Curious game really. First half lacked goal mouth action but the visitors were probably the better side and we were flattered by a 2-1 lead. Second half turned out to be one of the best halves of the season with both teams really going for it. I guess Molesey knew a defeat would effectively end their season so threw people forward and we knew we needed a two goal advantage to feel safe. So end to end throughout and plenty of commitment, effort and intent from both teams. Players to mention ? Simon was rightly MotM in my opinion and has had an excellent season. Also thought Richard Davies was very good at right back today and Zac caused more problems than he has done for a while. Overall good effort and entertainment for a decent crowd. So we go into the last two games more in hope than expectation. The play-offs may be beyond us even with two more wins but even if we miss out we really can't complain about the entertainment at the PF this season. And five wins out of five, 20 goals scored to 3 conceded has made the PF a bit of a fortress at this end of the season.
Simon Johnson was superb today, deservedly MOTM. We know it's out of our hands and have to hope Faversham lose in that game in hand to give us any chance.
Well played Hastings-a deserved win in a hard fought and entertaining game. Simon Johnson and Sam Adams set a great example with their hard work and effort. 3 points needed at Ramsgate next.
Great game to watch today and good to see a decent crowd turn up according to the attendance figures. Our defence still gives cause for concern at times but our attack and of course Billy in particular is lethal when on song.
Been thinking hard about it due to inconsistent form etc but whatever happens I really do hope Garry & Danny do carry on next season and get an opportunity to carry on the good things that have happened ( lots of goals ) and have a chance to work on the problems ( defence ) that still remain. Can't afford to lose the squad all over again and start from scratch so defiantly the best chance for next season imo now even if we don't do it this season. Just hope we have a good enough budget to put a similar squad together.
Agree 100% with your second paragraph Dan. We appoint a new management team and all agree that we must 'give them time'. Then when we don't get instant promotion there are rumblings that it's time for a change.
Let's remember this time last year we weren't even guaranteed a place in THIS league let alone thinking about Ryman premier.
We all know we need to strengthen further if we are to 'do a Burgess Hill or a Folkestone' and run away with the automatic promotion spot....which surely must be our ambition. But let's not forget there are probably half a dozen others with the same aspiration and we can't ALL do it. It has always been notoriously difficult to get out of this league in the RIGHT direction.
I haven't given up hope on this season yet but the realist in me says we would struggle horribly if we went up and it may actually be to our advantage to strengthen the squad and have another go in THIS league next season and try to get that top spot.
What is so important is that we hold onto key players, like Simon, Billy and Sam Cruttwell (plus a few others) and build from there.
whats the situation with billys injury does anyone know would hate to see him not finish the season on a high, what every team needs a 25/30 goal a season out and out striker.
