Longer standing supporters will be saddened by the information passed to me by Carol Olah

Sadly Bela passed away last week after a long hard fought battle with Alzheimers.  If you are in contact with any of the old footballers please could you let them know.

The funeral is on Wednesday 30th March, 11.00 am, at Hastings Crematorium, all are welcome and to the wake afterwards.

Bela played for Hastings United in the 1960s under Ted Ballard and Sid Bishop. He hailed from Hungary and now lived locally

Details of his playing career are recorded in my books Hastings Re United and Hastings United Through Time

Very sad to hear the news of Bela Olah's passing. Remember seeing him play many times for United in the 60s.

Very sad to hear about Bela. As girling says he was an old fashioned winger who played many times for United in the 1960's , in front of crowds of 3,000. Remember him well. R.I.P.

What sad news this is . Bela was one of my childhood heroes ... I actually met him once . My granddad introduced me to him and Cyril Jeans ... I'm not sure how but Granddad seemed to know him really well . Was a great winger ! if memory serves me right he played for Bedford too . That may be my granddads connection as he worked for some time up there as a lorry driver .

Never met Bela, but my wife who helped care for him in the early days of illness, said he was a lovely warm and very interesting man to talk to. R.I.P.

My Dad seemed to think that Bela worked for Colemans Drinks along Bexhill Rd ... Might be wrong but that would explain my granddads connection ... him working for Dickers Lorries at the same time !  Think maybe a minute silence / applause would be nice on Monday ?

As I said I wasn't sure if my dads memory was correct . Bela seemed to have a very interesting and hard life in his early years .......read this ... It takes a bit of scrolling but there is a small article about him .http://www.furd.org/resources/Refugee%20Footballers%20Exhibition%20-%20Final.pdf
