After the postponed match against Hythe Town it is now against
The Wanderers are currently the number 6 in the table with 48 points out of 27 games. Scored 52 and conceded 33 goals.
Top scorer of the promoted team from Surrey is Tom Tolfrey with 16 goals.
We won the away match back in September with 1-2. Goals by Zac Attwood and contester of goal of the year by Sam Cruttwell
And we? Can you speak always about every game is important? Think this one is! We are 5 points behind the number 6 placed but we have 4 games in hand.
So not only we can see the strength of the Wanders but hopefully we will make a step towards the play off places. With the support of the home crowd I have all the confidence we will make this happen!
I agree Bert - they're all important now. We are in a great position to make it into the play-off positions. The caveat is that we need to get value from our games in hand and sustain momentum. If there are more postponements then that makes it so much harder as fixtures get squeezed. Let's hope for a drier spell and that all is well for Saturday.
very important game this with dorking playing for play off place as well. with all rain this week is there pitch inspection tomorrow or any doubt with game going on
If the weather forecast is correct then the game will be on. As always if there is any adverse weather between now and the kick off then please look at the official website and Twitter pages.
Ill keep this short and sweet. First half was absolutely dreadful. Dorking looked fitter, stronger, quicker, better organised and played a really nice, short, one touch passing game. Hastings meanwhile huffed and puffed and once they new they were not as good resorted to the good old long ball game. Second half big improvement, more effort, quicker to the ball, quicker to close down but passing was as poor as ever and despite the 2 goals can anyone really remember the keeper making any kind of save? He was very poor indeed and we just did not test him enough over the 90mins. Every time a cross came over he dropped it but there was never a Hastings player there which was really disappointing.
So another very average performance and Dorking thoroughly deserved their win for their dominant first half performance. Sadly we have 2 possibly 3 players who are so far off the standard required and I just hope the likes of Medlock, who was absolutely outstanding today, do not get fed up and look to move elsewhere. As others have said, sadly, we are a long way off from being any kind of promotion hopeful, unless we can get some real quality signings in quick.
I always try to be optimistic; but there's scant basis for that after today's performance. We were indeed dreadful in the first half. The only attempt on goal I can recall in that half was the one from Billy which cleared the stand. Dorking should have been out of sight at half time. So in that sense it's perhaps fair that the drama of the second half should count for nothing; but it is enormously frustrating that woeful though we were we could have still have salvaged something had we not given Dorking two goals.
Billy's goal was excellent - and in my endless debate with John regarding the 'long ball' - I feel duty bound to point out that that excellent goal came from a well executed long ball played by Sam Cruttwell. If Sam had been on earlier we might well have had a different game to comment upon. (I understand he was ill in the week and could not train, but if he was fit enough to be on the bench at 3.00 why could he not start ahead of clearly inferior players?)
I hate to write negatively about players but I must agree with John - it really is plain that we had players playing today who were well out of their depth, not just having a bad day. That is simply unprofessional.
A bit of a sad commentary on our performance was that the one telling, decisive pass capable of opening up the Dorking defence came from a Dorking player. Our defence looks vulnerable in the air and also on the ground when confronted with any player who can run a bit. Despite their tight fitting yellow shirts making them look a rather well rounded side, have to agree with John that Dorking were quicker, faster and fitter and appeared more motivated. Why is that or are we being a bit harsh?
Hmmm - I wasn't impressed with Dorking at all. They gave the ball away in that first half on numerous occasions, their keeper was a clown - it is an indictment of Ryman South that they are play off contenders and worst of all, United weren't up to showing what they are capable of, a la South Park, and beating them. Hugely hugely frustrating all round. We didn't take advantage of Dorking continually giving the ball away till we were 0-2 down (credit Medlock for a really well taken goal), we certainly didn't put that keeper under pressure and we definitely gifted them three points.
I know many will disagree but I detest the play offs - the very principle of them (end of season gimmick) stinks and any team that has already lost 9 games in early January frankly doesn't deserve to go up. And yet we are still in with a shout and will doubtless show on plenty of occasions this season that we ARE capable of putting on decent performances.
I will - along with others on here - put my hands up and concede a better side has seen us off etc etc - but today - not a chance. We just didn't get going till the second half and then gave the ball away for the Wanderers lad to run and run and run and put them 2-0 up - a good goal.
Players know we are a money club. drop the budget we then, will get the players we need. who will go we don't need. lets start at the bottom and work up. we still think we are a top side in,sussex we are not worthing today crowd 578. wage bill billy and zak.??????
A couple of their players looked pretty good-thought the 5 and 8 had good games. But they did work hard as a team, were busier than us all over the field and quicker to close down our players. Wonder how the wage bills of both sides compare?
The no 5 was excellent Tim. He was big, strong and very fit and ran the midfield in the first half. Exactly the type of player we need at present.
I don't think it has anything to do with the wage bill Doeboy. Medlock may well be the highest paid at the club but he is also the best player, on current form, and the last few games his work rate has been higher than anyone else in the team. I think he has been MOM in the last 3 games and I would be looking to building the team around him. I just think some of the signings have been very average, but to be fair to the management team, I think they have identified that now and are starting to move some of these players on. Midfield now has to be an absolute priority and possibly a big commanding centre half to slot in alongside Razor. If Walder is reformed, and I have some doubts after today's melee, than perhaps he needs to move back to his natural position.
Also, I am not sure anyone still thinks we are a top side in Sussex. I think most of us are realistic, do not expect to get into the play offs now and I think our league position is just about right. We have undoubtedly improved from last season, which of course we should have with some of the players we have, but I don't think the league lies. I think our position is probably just below where we should be and where we will end up. The problem is everyone keeps looking at the games in hand and expecting us to win every one of them. As Simon points out, if you have lost 9 games by the 2nd week of January you don't really deserve to go up. Interesting that the top 4 from last season did not lose more than 9 all season and the two promoted teams lost just 3 and 7.
As for defending set pieces this is now becoming a joke. Knowing where they train I just don't see how it is possible to practice these but something needs to be done. We now look vulnerable at every set piece around our area.
Agree......all very frustrating.
First half we were second best and showed again our complete inability to create chances against a well organised defence (cf. Poole, Merthyr etc.) Inevitably we were reduced to aimless long balls that never produced even a half chance.
Second half there was certainly a bit more passion and urgency but really not too much more quality. I would agree that their keeper was pretty fortunate not to see red. It was a pre-meditated foul that would have earned a yellow card anywhere on the pitch, add that to the fact that TRB would have been in a great position to score, I feel the keeper should have walked.....and that just might have changed the outcome. (That said his main quality was time wasting rather than actually catching the ball.) Ultimately of course it was a goalkeeping howler at the other end that proved decisive.
Well done to Billy for a quality finish....a stark comparison with his striking partner who in my opinion never fails to disappoint these days.
Thought Jack did well in defence today and Simon was just about the pick of the midfield but the inability of ANYONE to pick out a killer pass was evident throughout. Let's hope Crutts is fully fit for Tuesday as he does bring a little bit of extra quality.
.....and so this Jekyll and Hyde season continues...two or three good results followed by a bit of a shocker.
I suppose the obvious thing that stands out is our form against the top six. By my reckoning, it's P8 W2 L6 F10 A19. We've still got 4 games against current top six sides, including tricky games against HBay, Faversham and Guernsey twice. Should we improve and say only lose 2 of those, and not lose to anybody else, that would be 11 defeats. Thus, the pressure is on us not to start drawing games against lesser sides, as if we are to get into the play-offs off the back of a minimum 11 defeats, we need to avoid dropping silly points in a wasteful manner and continue to beat these so-called lesser teams. Defeats like yesterday mean that is becoming harder and harder and with our schedule, we are bound to drop points along the way. That said, we are still mathematically in the hunt for a play-off place, which surely had to be a minimum requirement at the start, and I am sure Garry and Danny will be pushing and pushing until the last game. The picture may look different after the next three games but we cannot afford too many more Jekyll and Hydes. My other concern is that other midtable teams who can't go up or down can play with freedom and cause us problems but hopefully we can deal with that.
If we can't practice defending set pieces, we can't practice taking them either. Dorking looked like they had several corner routines well drilled. They scored from one, and should have scored from another.
very disappointing yesterday and first half no passion desire or motivation it look like. second half we a bit better but overall Dorking totally deserve the win as they look more organise, stronger, fitter and up for it. for me Dorkings 2nd goal summed it up and was the worse goal we let in yesterday with there player running 40 yards without any kind of challenge and i bet he could not believe his luck.
excuses again in program that its a work in progress but sorry on themoney this squad is on it is failing and i can not believe wilson when he said in his notes that the aim was promotion via the play offs next season not this and find it hard that the club can accept that with the money we are paying. and he says trimming the squad a little gets a tighter group of players so why have a massive squad of players at the start or is he saying that was a mistake and an expensive one i think if now it is a small squad that is better even though we are playing catch up. a great managemnt signing is turning into a bit of a flop
