I'm not sure how people are travelling tomorrow but please be aware if you're intending taking the train there is currently an issue which means that there are severe disruptions from Hastings. I'm not sure if the subsequent repairs will be finished by tomorrow but my advice is to check for issues before you travel.
Any news on the state of the Peacehaven pitch ?
Is an inspection planned this morning or is it all looking OK ?
Hopefully only very light rain today so we should be able to get this one played....and three more points gained against a team who have let in 31 goals in eight games.
A good performance today in tricky conditions. Peacehaven, especially in the first half I think are the poorest side we've seen this season and were lucky to be only two down at the interval. The wind played havvock during the whole game but assisted us in our third goal with their keeper only flapping.
Good to see two substitutes get in the scoresheet as well today with four good goals. Man of the match for me would be Sam Cole who ran tirelessly all day. Could've been and perhaps should've been more than four, but I'm not complaining!
Decent 3 points today in very difficult conditions. I don't think for a minute we played particularly well, which appears a strange comment if you were not there today and see the score line, but we were up against a Peacehaven team with 8 teenagers, a 17 year old keeper making his debut and a team only put together in the last few days. But you can only beat what is put in front of you and apart from the first 20 minutes we put in a pretty comfortable performance over the 90 minutes but without ever dominating a game and hardworking Peacehaven side. Three of our four goals were fantastic team goals today with the second from Sam Cole as good as any you will see this season. Apart from that not a lot to report. I think we would have all liked to see the young Peacehaven keeper making his debut tested more, as he had very little to do, and when he did he pretty much made a hash of it. We also looked pretty awful every time we decided to play long ball football in the howling wind, whilst also looking equally fantastic when we played short, first time passes, which resulted in 3 goals. I thought defensively we looked average today against their tricky no 10 but I think a lot of that may have been down to conditions and the midfield tracking back. Medlock MOM for me just ahead of Cole and Johnson. Now on to the real test on Tuesday and a trip to face in form Hythe Town who won yet again today with goals from Harris and Sawyer.
First thing to say is that conditions were very VERY difficult; a strong swirling wind and a very soft and slippery top made any football difficult today but in fairness to Peacehaven it was a decent and flat playing surface (that we definitely won't get on Tuesday.) I would certainly agree that we scored three tremendous goals today and I hope they were captured on film (though whether you'd see much of our fourth in the gloomy Eastern goalmouth is another matter.)
Having said all that I think we were rather flattered by the final score. Against a ridiculously young and inexperienced opponent I would have expected us to dominate rather more than we did and it was only poor finishing and a few desperate tackles and blocks that protected our early lead.
However I'm certainly not complaining; in such difficult conditions this was a potential banana skin and we came through in style in the end. Again hard to make the MotM call but I'd give it to Billy for his first half performance...however a word of praise for young Matt in goal who dealt pretty well with today's conditions.
Tuesday will be a much sterner test.
I thought we handled the conditions better than Peacehaven today, the pitch started cutting up from the very first minute and I think we were lucky that the rain stopped prior to kick off otherwise we may have seen an abandonment. I think giving the scoreline, we should remember that Worthing played them last week and could only manage to get one more than us today on their own pitch, a pitch that wasn't muddy, didn't cause players to make the same mistakes such as today. We got the three points and regardless that they fielded a young side you can only beat what's in front of you.
On the upside : two lovely goals and three points.
The downside: if we play like that on Tuesday we'll get battered.
Peace haven were dreadful, but several of their young players with a bit of pace made us look very ordinary in our own half.
strange to say that a 4-0 was not convincing but given it was like we was playing a youth side i think our performance was adequate only. pitch and weather was awful and although we never look like we would lose i think we show again we are not like a team unlike peacehaven with all there problems worked hard and felt a bit sorry for there kids. pretty certain that there manager was same guy that was manager at chipstead when we play them on first day of season so look like he has another tough job. some good goals and my man of match would be johnson, thought he showed quailty and worked well both on ball and off it. as dave says we need to be better than that on tuesday at hythe, sure harris will have a point to prove.
