After the big loss against Whyteleafe is it now time for a reaction against
Casuals are currently the nr. 17 in the table with 30 points out of 26 games.
Scored 44 and conceded 51 goals. Their topscorer is Ashikodi.
And we? After the release of Jack Harris and Sam Crabb , boss Garry Wilson will try to freshen up his playing squad. New and old face Josh Jirbandey is back ( and scored the only goal against Whyteleafe ). Garry's aim and i think also from a lot of us supporters is to reach a play off place.
Very important is that we win these games, not only for confidence reasons but also to stay in touch with the top half of the table.
Wishing you all not only a very pleasant afternoon at TPF but also wishing you and your Family a
Well you can't help thinking we need to despatch teams like Walton rather more quickly and convincingly than we did if we're seriously hunting a play-off place. We were clearly the better side but regularly lacked that last pass to turn a strong position into a genuine scoring opportunity. All in all it was decent entertainment but the frustration level was clearly increasing the longer it went on at nil nil. Not too many great performances today; Sammy, Sam Cole and Simon weren't as decisive as they can be while Zac and Tyrell continue to frustrate. At the end if the day I guess we should be thankful for three points but clearly we need to go up another level if we really want to stay in the hunt for a play off place. It could quite easly have gone wrong today against fairly average opponents. I would just about give MotM to Sam Cruttwell but Ollie, Razor and Jack all put in solid performances.
Very frustrating again today and a fairly unconvincing performance against very average opponents. We clearly have a league where the top 6 or 7 are light years ahead of the rest of the league and a play off place will only be obtained by beating those at the top, something we have struggled to do this season. No doubt we were the better side today and deserved to win but let's keep things in perspective, it was touch and go for a while and despite all the possession and attempts on goal I can only really remember their keeper making a couple of saves and for much off the game we played right into Walton's hands. They were happy to play deep and catch us on the break, something they did very well in the first half as we kept giving the ball away. Second half we still kept giving the ball away but happily Walton were so poor they could not take advantage.
Positives for me today were Ollie, who made us look a lot more secure down that right hand side and Walder who continues to improve and made an amazing goal line clearance in the first half. I thought Medlock was excellent when he came on and should never have been on the bench. Can only assume he was carrying a knock. On the flip side , the midfield still worries me a little and Adams and Crutwell still give the ball away too much, in between a lot of good things. Wilson is only young and has potential but was very average today and would not be in the team if anyone else was in charge. Zac had a very quiet game and still doesn't look fit, whilst Cumming Bart just tells you everything about the strength of our current squad. And just finally, after about the 5th long throw from Crutwell landed straight on the centre halves head you would have thought someone in the dugout may have told Sam it wasn't working, but no, we just carried on and Walton kept on breaking From the break down. It's that thing that many supporters bring up on this forum, a plan b or being able to see something isn't working and being able to change and adapt. It just doesn't happen.
So more questions than answers for me yet again today, but three points nevertheless and let's now hope we can go in a nice, long unbeaten run. I think the squad badly needs to be freshened up and hope to see some new faces in over the next few weeks.
Agree John, but I still think the issue is players being played out of position. Why wasn't Josh alongside Sean with Walder in midfield, we still seem a long way from putting in a 90 min performance of the required level for promotion.
main thing was 3 points but another as usual frustrating game to watch where we struggle to beat a side that i thought was average at best but maybe because we are only average most of time. manage to get a friend to come to game that had only be one game before the fa cup harrogate game. he said to me yesterday do you really pay a tenner to watch this week in week out which i thought was a bit insulting but did get what he meant. think most of what frustrated me yesterday was in attack and tyrell not picking right options and yes he is quick and can frighten defenders but so many times tyrell then just waste the opportunity. cumming bart and wilson are not good enough for this level on current form. rest of side average performance hard to pick man of match.
this squad has been together for 6 months now and i would think by now that players should have better understanding be able to pass better and performances should be more consistent and we should not struggle like we do but least getting points was good in front of good boxing day crowd
Pleasantly surprised with the crowd size and we were lucky that the Boxing Day weather was perfect in that respect. At least the masses saw a win if not the domineering performance that we really would have wanted in such a fixture. We really do need to get another win like this on Tuesday to start to rebuild our battered confidence.
Closing that gap between us and the playoffs ASAP is vital as being mid table doesn't do the players confidence or attract fans no matter how many games in hand we have on everyone else as the points we will take from them is of course a complete unknown.
Over 1500 at Hythe v Folkestone today (Jack Harris making his debut) and over 800 at Worthing. Decent crowd yesterday but perhaps we would have had a lot more had we played today. Think it would have been great to have a Sunday game.
after saying ours was a good boxing day crowd it dont look so good when you look at worthing, hythe and even south park today . all well over double their average. sounds like exciting games to and lot of goals and hythe leading folkestone with not long to go
Quite astonishing that Hythe were below Whitstable and rock bottom after the first month of the season. See Dave Cook is back and playing and Frankie Sawyer has scored again today. Believe we go there in a couple of weeks so be interesting to see how the two teams compare with new managers, a healthy budget, and a few ex players on show.
Hythe vs Folkestone is a big game normally let alone on a Sunday as the 'Boxing Day derby' we were given the worst possible game yesterday considering it was an opposition from West London with almost literally no fans, no directors came from them either I heard. If we'd had Worthing or Hythe for example you could have added 100 extra to the gate I'm sure.
See Horsham pulled in nearly 700 today as well. Could have them, Eastbourne and Lewes all in the Ryman next season. That will only make it more difficult to get out of in my opinion.
