Just reading everyone's thoughts from previous threads regarding players being used out of position, no defensive balance to the side etc...
When you watch the side play is it obvious what the gameplan is?
Does this vary from game to game (dependant on opponent) or is it a pretty fixed formation, gameplan?
Who is responsible for tactics; obviously this is ultimately Gary & Danny's decision but who puts it across to the players, is Ryan still working with the squad?
One thing is for sure, we are nearly half way through the season & there is no realistic chance of us getting back to the ryman Prem next season if we carry on with the current inconsistency? It's frustrating to see sides like Tonbridge & Burgess Hill (even Worthing) taking some big forward steps whilst we flounder around in mediocrity...
Did the majority of you, like me, have slightly higher expectations than mid table for this season or am I being harsh in your eyes - was this ever only going to be a season of consolidaton & rebuilding?
Me personally, with new directors and a new era beginning, I would have preferred someone with no previous connections to the club, such as a Tommy Warrilow or a Darren freeman but was not disappointed in anyway when Gary and Danny were given the job. I felt with these guys on board and their local connections that we would have a chance of getting into the play offs but was cautious after feeling this way last season under Terry. I never felt for one minute we would win the league outright. Then over the weeks we appeared to be making some really decent and surprising signings, none more than Attwood and Harris early on, and Medlock later on. Throw in Walder, Cole, Johnson, Rowe with the ever young Razor, Adams and Pelling and a much improved Richardson Brown I guess I, along with most others, changed my opinion and thought we could actually win this league or if not go very close. Of course we may well still do but in answer to your question, yes, we are currently performing well below my expectations and I guess those of most supporters, the management and possibly the owners as well. I honestly don't believe anyone can be happy with where we are but as we keep saying, 5 or 6 wins on the bounce and we are probably top 4. That's how fickle this game can be.
John, I've got no problem with being patient & fully accept that time is often required for a management team to get things how they want them. That said I haven't really witnessed too much consistency in performance or signs of progress/cohesion in our style of play?
There is an element of "flat track bullies" hinted at by a previous poster; our obvious firepower & talent is enough to get us past the lesser sides but as soon as we come up against an organised, confident team (Herne Bay, Worthing, Faversham, Folkestone) we are found somewhat lacking?
In fairness the Ramsgate result shows what we are capable of & Guernsey coming up will pose an interesting challenge...
I would love a Q&A with the coaching staff to understand what the game plan is & how pleased they are with how the lads are implementing it?
