The Club is pleased to announce that midfielder Tom Vickers has agreed to return to the Pilot Field for a third spell, and he is set to be part of the squad that travels to Sittingbourne for United's first away game of the 2015/16 Ryman League season on Tuesday evening.
Vickers was part of the U's junior set-up until being snapped up by Brighton & Hove Albion as a fourteen year old. He progressed through the ranks to captain the Seagulls' Academy side, but was then released without being offered a professional contract, and made his senior debut for United on the opening day of the 2012/13 campaign.
He started the following season at Lewes, but rejoined the U's in November 2013, only to suffer a serious Achilles injury four months later. Recovering more quickly than originally anticipated, he was back in action by October 2014, but subsequently left the Club in January this year and joined Horsham. In all, he has made seventy-four appearances to date, and contributed six goals.
The twenty-one year old spent this pre-season with Lewes, but ultimately decided that he favoured a return to the Pilot Field instead of joining the Rooks, and as soon as Garry Wilson and Danny Bloor became aware of his availability, they quickly secured his signature after yesterday's stunning 6-0 victory at home to Chipstead.
Ridiculous strength in midfield now, don't envy Garry choosing who to leave out now!
On the Lewes forum all of their fans wanted him sign as they look lightweight in midfield so shocked they didn't sign him up but their loss is our gain for sure!
Think Lewes must be struggling financially as their squad looks assembled on the cheap. Hope we are not stretching our finances with all these signings.
great signing always rated Tom but whilst this is all very exciting I like Chris hope that we are not stretching our budget to a point that damages club. in the forum it was said we need 250 gate to pay for players but that looks very low when you think we have experience manager and players like Zac, Jack, Sam Cole, RAzor, Pelling. i think we have a budget that would do good job in ryman premier.
anyway welcome back Tom and yes Garry has big decisions on who to play and not to play but imagine that Crutwell and Holden will be first to be looking for other clubs.
Barrie I heard it was substantially reduced from last year.
I heard the same reduced to £2k a week, they even have full time non playing staff that they are paying. Surprised they didn't sign Vickers in the pre season game that I saw as they lacked physical presence. I think some of the football people at Lewes are more interested in the community side rather than the football side.
Dan yes that make a difference but how much is all the sponsors come to? it must be big amount. if our budget is base on crowd of 250 which must be paying people then even at 10 quid for all those that is £2500 a week which with game every other week is £1250. can the sponsors all be paying as much as £70,000 cos i heard rumour on saturday our budget is 3000 a week. can not think sponsor deal is even half that.last year there was talk of budget cut is that likely to happen again if we dont do well in cups? i said in other post football was very entertaining on saturday and hope it is like that all season and can be maintained with money
