After several promising pre-season friendlies we now are up for the real task! Starting against
Last year the performances and results against the Surrey team were bad ; we lost 2 times. At home 0-1 and away 1-2 with a goal from Hassan.
The team from Surrey finished last season on place 15th. Played 46 games; won 15 , drew 9 and lost 22. Scored 67 and conceded 84 goals.
And we ? You can say we are not only having a new manager and staff but it looks we are having a complete new team.
Gary Wilson and assistant Danny Bloor have added a lot of new faces for the 2015-2016 Campaign.
Familiar players who stayed : Josh Pelling, Sam Cruttwell, Sam Adams, Sean Ray and also Kyle Holden, Tyrell Richardson-Brown, Harvey Hanifan and Liam Foster have played already for HUFC last season.
New are : Jack Walder,Ollie Rowe,Sam Cole,Jack Harris,Max Hollobone,Sam Crabb, Jerome Jibodu and Zac Atwood.
Hopefully we can get a fresh and bright start of the season and persuade a lot of supporters to visit a match at The Pilot Field!
Last year we had a average of 362 spectators at our home-games ( total 8318 ) So bring family, friends to TPF and support for 100% the team for hopefully our first 3 points of the Season !
I would agree with all the team Dan said but I'd make 1 change in the midfield Sammy Adams has to be in for Hollibourne just think spammy gives more of a threat attacking
Wow!! what a start that was. Forget that Chipstead only had 9 for the last 25 minutes and no keeper, I thought we dominated the entire game and looked sharp all over the pitch. The front two were a real handful all match and I thought Cole and Crabb were the two best players on the field. Fantastic start and role on Sittingbourne on Tuesday.
Well there was more entertainment and more goal attempts in that game than we had in the whole of January, February and March put together.
OK they ended up with nine men and one of the smallest stand in keepers I have ever seen but we were streets better than them long before that situation arrived and the only surprise/disappointment was that we didn't get a lot more.
Loved the way Zac and Jack played so close together...it gave them big problems from the word go and great that all three forwards registered today.
Thought the two full backs, Sam Crabb and Alfie Hall, also looked good and my only concern was Jerome Smith who looked rather indecisive and ponderous at times. Hopefully Ollie will fill that spot.
A decent crowd which will surely be a lot bigger for the next game.
Loved it !
Great result, dominated from almost start to finish and once we scored the first it was almost a done deal as to the result as chipstead threatened so rarely.
Keeping excitement and expectations in check will be the main issue after this!
Always amazing how differently people can see a game Mick. I stood behind the goal on Saturday discussing with my old mate Sandy how impressive Jerome Smith was during the game. I then spoke to a respected ex pro who told me he is the best centre half in the area by far. Time will tell I guess but I thought he did well and in fact I thought Alfie Hall struggled a bit in the first half against the pace of Tyrone Pink. Certainly did better second half.
On a separate matter it was good to see Tom Vickers at the ground yesterday And looking in great shape. Incredible to think that Lewes have released him and he's without a club. Would love to see him back at the Pilot Field but is there're any room in the squad? Could definitely see him sitting in along side Walder in the centre.
Good performance 2-0 up before there problems started. Can see on yesterday that we looked better organized and will be harder to beat Walder and Vickers in the same team not sure about that as they are too similar.
Tom's left footed, Walders's right. Tom likes to get forward and score goals, can play wide or central, Walder's a defensive midfielder that breaks up the play. Where are the comparisons apart from the fact they can both be a little hot headed at times?
Any statisticians out there? When did we last win a league game by six goals ? Looking through my meagre records I think it was 85/86 when as Hastings Town we beat Burnham and Hillingdon 6-0 but stand to be corrected.
I thought Sam Cole was outstanding yesterday but so were the other players. Jack Harris has looked like a striker through the friendlies and proved it yesterday with his hat trick. Zac is a far better player than when he was with us before and scored a beautiful goal. I agree with John, this is becoming a habit, that Jerome is a good centre half and fits in well with Razor. An all round good performance against a poor Chipstead side even before their keeper got injured. If they loose their number 4 they will be relegated before the season gets going, he was their best player by a mile.
this was the sort of game we would have lost in the recent past. We now look clinical in front of goal and have potential scorers all over the pitch.
Roll on Tuesday.

I understand that he was not released as an offer was made to him but it was so poor he decided to look elsewhere.
Whilst the thought of Vickers and Walder does sound excellent centre mid seems to be our strongest ( in player depth anyway ) position and I have been impressed with Max Hollobone actually and he provides a solid platform alongside Walder that allows our wide players and full backs to get forward. Then of course we also have Alan Foster and Sam Adams there as well ( when Okoh is playing )

Interesting different opinion on Jerome, John, and I won't judge him on one game and what I perceived as two or thee incidents where he was a little bit indecisive. I wasn't alone in that opinion watching from the main stand.
Personally I'd like to see Sam wide on the right. I feel that he is SO fit that he can do the midfield job and still regularly get to the goal line to supply from the right...leaving Zac and Jack close together in the middle.
Not getting carried away by yesterday's result, however I don't think Chipstead will be the poorest team we see this season and the way we began to dominate them, even when they had 11 men, was really encouraging.
Steve,
Sorry I'm going to disagree with you on one thing. I know we got six but we must have missed twenty six. Up until they surrendered in the last 20 minute our goals to 'good chances' ratio was very poor. OK...in the end we were scoring at will but in other games I feel we will need to be more clinical to get a result.
Rowe-hurst signed but not Vickers. Can't believe it. Glad I am missing the first two home games as maybe he will be gone by the third. Nothing against the lad personally but I don't see what he brings to the team. And I am astounded we haven't signed up Vickers. He seems like the presence we need in midfield but I guess Brown will play one of our many centre halves there. Round pegs anyone?
Perhaps Vickers wanted more money than club can afford.
I think you will find the offer made would have only just covered his petrol money.
He was at Hastings watching them yesterday afternoon.

Vickers was at Hastings yesterday and signed for Garry and Danny after the game.
Well let's await for official confirmation from the club but if correct another fantastic signing and for me the final part of the jigsaw. A creator/ball player in the middle of the park is just what we need and that would complete the strongest squad I have seen at the Pilot Field for many years.
very good start we look like a team and even early as this understanding in the team is excellent. Have to agree with Mick though cos really should have scored a dozen and we will need to be more clinical against teams better than Chipstead. Chipstead were so bad. there keeper was injured from the start and it showed and although we won easily in the end it was only when there players went off injure and the keeper and they playedwith 9 men that we really then found it easy to score. but on yesterday i think we have to think we can win the league the depth of squad and players we have and quality is something quite exciting. good performances from everyone yesterday dont want to single any one out but please that Garry looks to be more attack minded than maybe i thought he was going to be. it was entertaining yesterday.
