United's recently assembled new Board of Directors has decided not to retain the services of Nigel Kane as First Team Manager at the Pilot Field, and wishes to invite applications for the now vacant position with immediate effect.
Kane was appointed for his second spell at the helm in January, becoming the third man to occupy the U's hotseat in the space of three months, following the earlier departures of Terry White and Dominic Di Paola, as United consistently underachieved throughout a campaign in which they were widely expected to be fighting for promotion from day one.
In stark contrast, Kane found himself in an increasingly tense relegation battle, from which United only escaped after a run of three wins and two draws in their final six matches left them in a still disappointing nineteenth place at the end of the season.
On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board would like to express its gratitude to Nigel and his backroom team for their hard work in ultimately securing the U's Ryman League safety, and intends to see whether or not he would be interested in exploring other roles within the Club going forward.
Anyone interested in applying for the role should please email their CV to Club Secretary, Tony Cosens, at the following address - richardcosens@btinternet.com - to be received by the closing date of Friday, May 15. Applicants should ideally have experience of managing a team at step four of the non-league pyramid, or above, please.
Having made the decision they have, I'm glad the club have kept to a pretty tight schedule with the closing date for applications for the post of manager. I hope that is followed up with with an equally swift timetable for interviews and appointment. We need someone in place as quickly as possible to assemble a successful squad - preferably before the end of May.
