Out of the two would hope Folkestone get it, still have good memories regarding how both sets of ours and their fans sang against Dover behind the same goal last playoff

Lots of reasons to hope it's Folkestone,
1. They came 2nd
2. Would probably provide a bigger threat to us next season.
3. May give us a more local Xmas fixture Hythe
4. At least they have a few fans.

Interestingly it was yet another own goal that sent them through, ring any bells?

Didn't expect Faversham to lose to be honest, especially on penalties, tough on them!

That's the gamble of the play offs.

Certainly an interesting read on both the Folkestone and Whyteleafe forums regarding the events last night and subsequent accusations. Clearly Folkestone have some undesirable, occasional 'fans' that the club/police need to sort out.

Folkestone 0 - 3 Merstham

So we have both Folkestone and Faversham to contend with next season. I sure Folkestone will be looking for third time lucky.

Just caught up with everything that went on at Folkestone on Tuesday . Very unsavoury !! The idiots that showed their ugly heads are really brave ,,,confronting Leafe fans ( who are some of the nicest in this league btw) after the equaliser went in .Clearly not regular Folkestone fans but where were the stewards ? Would like to think this would be nipped in the bud if in the unlikely event it should ever happen here . The consequences are still rumbling on on their forum . I bet those brave soles are not to be seen when those two clubs meet in the league again next year , although reading Leafe fans comments , they are unlikely to be returning there unless they get some reassurance of better stewarding .

It's a compliment in a way to the semi pro game at this level that when this kind of behaviour happens the stewards are nowhere to be seen - because they simply don't know how to deal with it because it's that rare. Expecting volunteers to have to deal with the very occasional scumbag is probably expecting too much. To be honest you would expect the home club to see if the local Bill could have a few of their finest present at games like this.

In my following Town and United there were only ever two places where I thought trouble might start - Hailsham (!) in an FA Vase tie way back (90-91 was it?) and at Grantham in 00-01 and again the following season. That Vase tie was drawn and there was a Bill presence for the replay and they were used to escort the referee off afterwards!

As for play offs themselves - they are end of season gimmicks which all too often result in teams being promoted who don't deserve it getting it right on the day of a knock out game. Bognor a few years ago for example - 2nd with 96 points, a goal difference of 1 seeing Met Police (96 points) beat them into 2nd spot. Bognor lost their play off semi final to Leatherhead who'd finished 31 points behind them. Similar story with Harlow in Div one N this season - finish 2nd with 103 points, a point behind Needham Market - and miss out in play off semi final. Promotion and relegation should be decided exclusively on how you perform over 42 games.

If United get into the play offs next season, would I back them to get promoted that way? Of course I would - but it's still wrong!

Behind the goal in the 2nd half at Harrogate in the FA Cup there was a bunch of Leeds fans that very nearly kicked up big time due to their dislike for 'southerners' but it fizzled out thankfully and also the Harrigate fans being targeted by them as well ( local town rivalry I assume ) but don't recall anything else particular at any game I've been to, by contrast the Folkestone fans and us sang together with no problems at all right next to each other in the playoff game.

Once again Simon its the clubs that want the system, so we are stuck with it. We have benefited from it, so its not all bad.

Absolutely Chris - United went up through the play offs as you say. I just feel uncomfortable with seeing a season's graft over 40 odd games where they have proved themselves worthy of higher grade football seeing the likes of Folkestone, Harlow and Bognor miss out when it all turns to knock out football. You can see why the clubs vote for it I suppose - but I bet it sticks in the throat when they miss out the way those three clubs have in recent seasons.

Harlow - 103 points - miss out on Ryman Premier football - unreal! But I must admit to feeling a bit pleased for Brentwood going up from Ryman North via the play offs (managed by Adam Flanagan).

Referring to point 3 - can the club make representation to the league to get a "closer" fixture for at least one of the bank holiday fixtures? It is unfair to both us and Ramsgate, to miss out on a potential bigger crowd, whilst everybody else has a local derby.

Maybe we'll get Peacehaven now... Won't help the crowd though!
