This has probably been the worst season of my career” he admitted. “We’d had some great times at East Preston but I wanted to take a step up and the Hastings job came along but it was a disaster from day one. Hastings is a brilliant club, with a massive fanbase, but we went there at time when the fans wanted the chairman out so they were almost willing us to do badly because they wanted him to throw in the towel. Our form wasn’t that bad and was actually just below that of the play-off sides but I wouldn’t class it as a success and, although I learned a lot while I was there, in hindsight I wished I’d listened to the people who told me not to take the job. It was a pretty bad time for me personally so I’m delighted to have the chance to manage Horsham because I couldn’t imagine a club more suited to us.
And he said to me I never said that it was a disaster from day one but look its come up again and he was blaming the paper for making it up ha well u just pissed on ur bonfire lol
I have been a big supporter of Dom on this forum but have to say that I am both shocked and saddened by his comments. People have told me he can be very immature at times and spends way too much time on twitter, face book and other people's forums and he did that when he left Hastings without ever actually defending himself. A lot of us gave him the benefit of the doubt but as Wayne says, this appears to show a different side to him. To say supporters wanted him to fail so we could oust the chairman is unbelievable. A hundred or so of us turned up at the new managers forum and every one was delighted he had joined and most said it was our best and most refreshing appointment for many years. I never once heard him get stick on match day apart from when him and his coaching staff were fighting amongst themselves, I think at home to Walton & Hersham. And when he did quite possibly the worst thing a manager can ever do at any level of football, walk out on the club and fans, he still got next to no criticism from the fans and received a flood of support from the majority including myself. I believe that says more about us and our support for him then it does Dom and his senseless comments.
I have spoke to Dom via this forum and know some of the reasons why he left. I also spoke directly with the chairman and heard the other side of the story. I believe somewhere in the middle is the truth and both made mistakes, you only need to speak to Ronnie Dolan, Tom Vickers and Jamahl King to know it was not all one way, but to blame the fans and say some wanted him out is ludicrous. Dom is a very likeable and a infectious personality but I think he has really let himself down with some of those comments. He certainly didn't say these same things to me or with the rest of the Hastings supporters behind the goal at Horsham earlier in the season.
I still wish him the best and he'll do well at Horsham but please don't blame the fans Dom! every man and his dog were behind you and were gutted when you left, you only need to look back through this forum to get confirmation of that. I said before that Dom may come back to haunt us one day, he may well do but I now believe these comments may just come back to haunt him.
Whatever views we might have of Dom - and the majority of us appear to remain positive, even those who like me were and are critical of his decision to leave as he did - he can render us his greatest service on Saturday by inspiring Horsham to beat Ramsgate. So come on Dom!
