First of 2 very important home games this Saturday and Monday ! First we play against
The team from Surrey is currently the number 5 in the table with 34 games played; they won 15, drew 11 and lost 8.
They scored 68 goals and conceded 47. Top scorer is Roscoe DSane with 19 goals.
This is the third game this season against them:On September the 13th we won in a FA Cup game away 1-2 ( goals from Adams and Ade Olorunda ) ( picture from TheLeafe website )
And on October the 25th in the League game we drew 0-0.
And we ? The coming 2 home matches are very, very important . I think we need 4 points to stay away from direct danger. The last game against Folkestone which we lost 0-1 showed once more that we first of all create not enough chances and furthermore that is one of the reasons we don't score enough !
Hopefully Nigel will be able to strengthen the squad with experienced players and especially upfront we need some attackers who can score easily. Now that Kenny Pogue has left the club we can't rely purely on the skills of Sam Adams and Ade Olorunda.
So hopefully a lot of supporters will come to The Pilot Field to be the 12th player !!!!
Whyteleafe have won twice as many away games than home games, but they haven't beaten us this season. We beat them in the FA Cup and we fought out a goalless draw in the league. Perhaps we could be a bad omen for them?
Clutching at straws if we are looking for omens, 100% commitment from the players would be a start. Starting with not walking back from an offside position, making runs into spaces, and looking like we want to be on the pitch. And if they don't its best they cry off and don't take their money. And if Kane and unable get it wrong these next 2 matches then kick them out the club.
Totally agree Chris that we need to see more commitment. But who are you clearing out now? It reads as if you're suggesting that we give the manager 2 more games or do you mean players?
Pat its desperate if we lose these 2 games, would get rid of Kane as he obviously would not have been able to motivate, give it to Rose/Ray and pray. But if players don't try 100% there is no point in playing them.
I dont think thats giving Nigel any chance - I assume by saying "Kane and Unable" - that was a swipe at the one person who has never let the club down in the last few years. I dont think you can consistently argue that the club is a joke and sacks too many managers when in all honesty, you do the same amount of sacking and firing on this forum.
You appoint the right person in the first place instead of recycling, I know I said Rose and Ray but I don't think that's long term, as with Kane and Stapley do the players respect them, I think not if they did commitment would not be a question.
I think the players have looked sharper and fitter already with Nigel and Mark but I do accept your point about commitment. What I cant get my head around is this constant need to sack someone? Its all very well to say "appoint the right person in the first place", but isnt that easier said than done at any level? For instance, - we all thought Di Paulo was the right choice, - you included.Itwasnt.In fact you can look at Moyes, AVB and other examples from the top flight.Great choices on paper, but didnt work out. Moyes probably would have worked out at Man United you know, - if he had been given time. Back to us then, and I think its about sticking by the management at an absolutely critical time now, whether we agree with their appointment or not and not once again calling for them to be sacked.
People can say what they like about Stapley and make their own mind up whether he is good enough or not but all I will say is there is no more dedicated and enthusiastic individual around the club. He is the one person that has never jumped ship through all the ups and downs of the last few years and the management merry-go-rounds. Despite this I believe the man has never been paid any wages outside of the historic FA cup run. Lets also not forget that arguably one of our best performances of the season was at home to Burgess Hill, the one game he took charge.
Take your point John so why wasn't he given the job?
Pat - we were 2nd in league when Maggs left, tho he was never my favourite that was a strange decision, and from then on the club has gone quickly downhill.
No idea Chris, I would have given it to him in a caretaker role until the end of the season rather than Kane full time. If he kept us up, give him a go full time. He hasn't got the experience of others and probably does not have the contacts, but just look at some of the abysmal signings made by managers who supposedly did have contacts over the past few years. By now giving it to Kane full time we have backed ourselves into a corner yet again. Reading and listening to some of the transfer rumours and the names being touted around its almost like Nigel is building a squad to get us out of County 1 next season, hopefully i'm wrong. We need a top striker, not someone that has mustered 12 goals at County 1 this season, we need Logan back quick as his situation is reminding me of Goldbergs 2 years ago (back in 7 days!!) and we need some experience and old heads in the side, not u18 and u21 players. They, along with Tom O'Connor for next season.
I was thinking precisely that John - about the Goldberg issue. It doesnt bode well when all ive heard about Logan is that he should be back soon and thats been said for the last couple of months it seems. The thing with Maggs Chris is that we may well have been second in the league, but with so few signings we went to leatherhead with the bare bones if I remember. That was the beginning of the decline as we had not enough of a squad to get us through, in my opinion anyway. John, I dont for one minute think that Nigel is preparing a squad for County league at all, and I'd actually put O conner in. Its not like hes a complete newbie is it? I take on board what you say about kids and relegation scraps, but some of the kids are making some of the senior players look very foolish at the moment.Fingers crossed that Logan is back in another 24 hours , not days!
I think i'll put this as a question rather than a statement.
Who was the manager in charge when Hastings was promoted to the ryman prem last time ??
can anyone tell me ? .... chrisb ? ....... anyone ??
Hang on !! you have been the one calling for his sacking, and claiming nk was clueless when it came to managing! You obviously had no idea of his past achievements with our club !!
In my opinion nk is "tried n tested", add to that, the team are training, and enjoying the training, morale is up and nk has the respect of the changing room, things are looking up !! what the lads need now is the supporters to be the twelfth man. And by that i mean for us, not the opposition......
Do you really feel they all gave 100% last week? Off course I'm aware of his past at the club, but you are judged on the present. You are remembered for the past.
How is the pitch looking after 24 hours of pretty constant rain ?
Looks like a damp start tomorrow too but drying up for the afternoon.
I guess the game will be on but it's sure to be a pretty slippery top.
Thanks for bringing the thread back to tomorrow's game Mick, yet again the thread has been "hijacked" for want of a better word.
We forked the pitch quite heavily today and it helped, however the pitch was still holding some water this evening. We will obviously do whatever we can to try and get the game on and will look at it again early tomorrow morning. So far this season we have yet to loose a 1st team game as you are aware and Simon is hoping that remains the case. Having an U21 game on it on Monday evening in torrential rain really didn't help albeit an entertaining one.
Thanks, Lenny.
Hopefully not too much more to come so hopefully the pitch will be its normal immaculate self by 3:00.
Have just seen one forecast (The Weather Outlook) is suggesting a dusting of snow tomorrow morning. Nice !
Lenny read up the top of the thread, and see who it was that asked the question to move the thread of the weekend games, I was asked a question and replied.
Sorry I don't understand what you mean, 'move the thread of the weekends game?'
It was you who posted the original post re sacking the management team no one else. a comment like that was obviously going to attract a reaction from some, however having said that did i name you as the one who changed the topic of the thread? If that cap fits wear it!
The pitch currently at 8.30am is playable however with it now raining If we get much more water may cause the game to be called off, therefore a pitch inspection is being carried out at 10.30am. Please keep an eye on the clubs website and Twitter for more updates.
Definitely a point won today in my opinion. After a super start in the first few minutes we were on the back foot for most of the first half. Yet again our passing was dreadful and constant rash challenges around the penalty area eventually brought Whytleafe a deserved equaliser just before half time although Ade could have quite easily put us back in front right on half time when all he to do was square the ball to Rose who had an open goal. Second half was much the same when suddenly Dsane was sent off for allegedly kicking Timmy in the head. This was our big chance but all that happened was Whytleafe dominated even more and took the lead when the Whytleafe sub just walked through the Us defence to give them a deserved lead. After that the game was end to end and Hastings showed some real character, with Evan equalising after a goalkeeping error.
A decent game and a massive points and the boys really stuck in there today against a decent team. Razor was outstanding and Ade a handful all day but the problems still remain at left back, the passing still dreadful and the jet propelled Tyrell was like a blinkered race horse on speed but good character shown by all today and that point could be massive. Well done to the boys.
Bert: I'm sure there will be a debate on just the point you make. To my mind it was a point won, even though Whyteleafe were down to 10 men for the last half an hour or so with the score then at 1-1; they scored a good individual goal with our defence offering a very weak challenge to a clever run through the middle. We looked likely to get nothing from the game until we got a more or less deserved equaliser thanks to persistence from Archibold who had come on as substitute for Tom O'connor (back with us - not a bad game, but still a bit light in the challenge). Yet again, I thought there were some poor decisions by the officials most of which were to our disadvantage. Yes, we could have won but overall I thought Whyteleafe the better, stronger and more organised side. A good performance again today from Sean, a battling one as always from Ade, but Taser rather quiet, Sam Adams absent - anyone know why?
definitely point won, think even with 10 men whyteleafe looked more capable than us but from where i was standing it was clear red card after he stamp on Tim. our defending is so bad and we was lucky they missed some good chances but we could have score more to with there keeper lucky when i think Rose shot and look like it hit post or a player but ended in there keeper hands. Tyrell speed is amazing but his control of ball need to be better. great to have Tom back surprise he was subbed as he was having impact on game but overall entertaining game and good we had fight to keep at it and get important win so well done
Got to say a point is better then no points at all Tyrell looks very good he's got alot of pace and he was going for every ball never gives up tom had a good game today good to see him back at the club rose almost scored shame I didn't go I as if it did I think it will give him more confidence we defo need to get 3points on monday night. Al that i want to know is who is this left winger is and the forward what's happened to Dixon tho and cant wait to have Frazer Logan back from his injury
I honestly can't see Fraser returning before the end of he season, he's awaiting a scan on his back. Despite training he's had to stop half way though due to the amount of pain he's in the next day. I agree we miss him in the middle but I think we'd all agree his health is much more important especially to a young man with a young family.
Oh ok i didnt know it was that bad but hope hes ok tho and comes back when hes fit shame whats happened to him tho as u could see he's got some talent for sure
I think that's a major blow if he's out to the end of the season. In the games he's played he has always made a difference and provided a bit more cutting edge. Definitely a point won and a battling performance especially towards the end but in all honesty we rode our luck most of the game. Razor was immense today - as fine a performance as you'll see from him, but we gave too many balls away too cheaply and I'm surprised Whytleafe didn't capitalise. Much more positives today- better effort and fitness - we just need a win which I think will boost us no end.
Obviously that's my own opinion and nothing official on whether Fraser will be fit before the end of the season or not, we all know how bad back injuries can take a long time to clear up.
Some further thoughts on performances (and absences) today:
Re. Fraser; I'm very sorry to learn that matters are as problematic as they are with his current health and fitness. I think we should not include him in the equation for this season but offer him all the support and encouragement we can in the hope and expectation he will stay with us and can play a major role for us next season. He is clearly well up to the standard of this league and the one above.
Re. Tyrell. What a mixed performance from him today! A lot of pace, great athleticism, a lot of endeavour, but some really bad passing. A pity he has to come into the team in a dogfight situation over relegation.
Re. Ewan: I've been negative about him, but he shows commitment and he did well today when he came on to get the equaliser. And (utterly unlike the departed Kenny) he can head a ball.
Re. Sam Cruttwell: A quiet game but few clear errors.
Re Tim: A great goal! But later, he didn't seem to me to be playing in quite his usual holding mid-field role and didn't look altogether comfortable. I thought he might be substituted, but in the event better he stayed on. Well done him and all the team to get a point from (in my view) a better opposition.
Definitely a point won today, credit for not giving in. Will be tricky having that game Monday, still think we'll get a result Monday. Crucial to ahead of a tough game at Guernsey next week who seem to have found their form now.
Gotta say, the Whyteleafe fans sounded more like a choir when they sung!
Lol Winchy, totally agree. Never has the song "you've only got one song, you've only got one song" been so appropriate...leafe, leafe, leafe, leafe or was it Leeds, Leeds.
Definitely not Leeds Leeds. Much better choir at Elland Road these days with almost no expletives. The Whytleafe lot did sound like an older non league Il Divo though. Spot on Winchy
Have to say when I bought my season ticket last June I didn't realise I was signing up to a dose of fortnightly sporting masochism ! From the fifth to the seventieth minutes it was probably as painful as anything I have endured for a good while. We simply couldn't pass to each other to save our lives and I feel that in that period we did well to only conceding two as Whyteleafe must have had at least 75% of the ball.
There were of course elements of bad fortune for both their goals....for the first we thought we were going to get an offside decision but the ref had spotted an earlier foul...and for the second Ade was clearly fouled only seconds earlier from a downfield punt. All in all though we can't begrudge them their goals.
I'm afraid I thought poor Sam had a horrible first half and just gave it away or got caught out of position far too often. I feel his confidence is as low as anyone's'. Tim also had a bit of a stinker on the distribution front but did take his goal well.
Didn't really see the sending off but the reaction of Josh, Tim and the linesman made it clear that something pretty unpleasant had occurred. I've never seen Josh seem so upset by an incident and I'm sure the ref got that right.
And so on to Monday.....we really do need three points from this one !
Sadly have to agree over young Sam. Don't like to be critical of the lad because he's a great talent playing out of position but his form is worryingly poor at present. What happened to our new left back, Dixon is it? Not sure it worked at all sticking Rose in the middle, so I would stick him back in at left back and possibly Kyle back in the middle, what other options do we have? And can Ade manage 2 games in 3 days? Not sure who's decision it was to release Kenny without an immediate replacement but with no Adams we look desperatly thin up top. Now there's a surprise.
I Think it was 1point gained more than 2 points lost, and at no point during the game was I confident of us getting any more.
We started off well and I thought that this was going to be our day, but after about 15 mins we let them get on top.
Our number one problem is that we keep on giving the ball away, why can't we seem to pass the ball to one of our own players? Is it that we are so out of position and with no movement that the only option is to pass the ball straight to them or are they marking us so well and quickly intercept our passes, whatever it is so frustrating.
It seems to me to be the easiest thing to do and that is pass to one of your own players, why can't they get the basics right?
Number Two problem is that we keep on fouling and giving away cheap free kicks right on the edge of the area, sooner or later they are going to score from one of them which they did.
Even when they went down to 10 men they looked more likely to win than we did, and it took a goalkeeping error to give us an unlikely equaliser. serves him right for Time Wasting earlier when they were 2-1 up!
I still think though that we will scrape enough points together to stay up, and we desperately need 3 points tomorrow night against CC.
If we wanted probably the best left back in the league then we need Matt whitehead n Dave Walters to sort there problems n both bite there tongues, Terry wanted him backNigel n stapes wanted him back but there not aloud 😏 that says enough for me
For me Rose & Brinkhurst are our strongest options at LB & RB respectively, think Rose has been better at LB than RB anyway, Brinkhurst may be useful at RW but we have more options there with Brown, Taser etc so makes sense to keep him at RB and am happy with that particular combination. Matt was a great attacking LB but even he wasn't the best defensively.
I know that DW was prepared to listen but not sure what Matts take on it was, he may well of been prepared to talk, I honestly don't know what the situation was re Matt not returning.
