Thank you Bert. I haven't been to the recent away games but after the good result at Herne Bay I feel encouraged to go the SSC game tomorrow. I continue to have confidence in Dom's long term ability to achieve success. Obviously, things have not progressed as quickly as he and regular supporters might have wished; and realistically the play offs will elude us this season; but that helps in one sense to make tomorrow's game a more worthwhile one - we might still dream of a cup final ........!
Hastings can do well tonight let's dream of past glory and go out and win, supporters will turn up and cheer on the team I am sure. We should play our strongest 11 from the start.
Did we have a shot at goal (Forgetting Tas's deflected shot?)
Was hoping for a good performance for the fans tonight, decent turnout for a County Cup game as well and seeing as we have not much to play for, disappointed. Admittesly was a strong Burgess Hill side though.
How sad that 2 years ago we were getting ready for a trip to Boro, had a semi final in the Sussex Cup, and was in an exciting relegation scrap in the Ryman Premier. Now we're only playing to not drop into the county leagues :(
Happy Christmas to you all

Another dreadful performance from Hastings tonight and their whole season could be summed up in 30 seconds tonight. From our own corner, Burgess Hill broke and their right back ran the full length of the pitch to put the ball away whilst at least 6 of our players were still on the half way line. Would Richard Rose ever do that? Much has been made of our fitness levels this season and that said it all. Barely a shot or clear cut chance all night against an impressive Burgess Hill who had arguably 4 of their best players on the bench. Fraser was probably the best of a bad bunch and as usual there was no life until Ade was introduced way too late.
The other point noted tonight is what has happened to our much talked about passing game? We seem to have gone back to the hoof it long philosophy which did not work on one single occasion as the passing was so abysmal. If we are going back to those dark days then you cannot play Taser down the middle, it has to be a target man such as Kenny or Ade. Unfortunately Kenny's game has gone backwards and Archibald.........nothing to say there.
So nothing left to play for this season now apart from making sure we don't drop into County 1. Don't think that will happen but has to get better than that rubbish tonight.
Ps what has happened to Tom Vickers? Shocking injury I know but an absolute shadow of the outstanding player of the past. Looks unfit and overweight. Would he not benefit from going out on loan? One of my favourite Hastings players and on his day one of the best in the league but at the moment seems desperately short of match fitness and think we are throwing him in way to quickly after his serious injury.

Did Dom and Ian think we were playing Barcelona away? A home performance devoid of any attacking intent or inclination which appeared to be designed just to stop Burgess Hill from scoring. Plenty of totally pointless passing and possession in our own half. Hardly an incisive or attacking pass in the opponents half- the only attacking option being a long ball up to our only forward player, Taser. To score we were relying on a set piece or a defensive error-do we really want to play like this in a home game-a cup tie we had to win on the night? After 15 minutes Burgess Hill must have realised all they do to do was show patience and goal opportunities would come their way. They eventually took 1 of the 3 clear chances they had in the second half. When we did try a pass or two when chasing the game, inevitably we kept on passing the ball off the especially narrowed pitch-which proved of great assistance to Burgess Hill in keeping the game under control. The only positive was the appearance of John Sullivan who played so well for us before.
I agree with everything that Johnw has said.
I mean a cup game at home and we only played with 1 up front and that was Taser in the middle, and we kept putting long balls up to him,and when he did eventually get the ball under control there was no where for him to go. Kenny,Sam and Evan Archibald were playing far too deep.
We really need 2 up front at the very least preferably Kenny and Ade with Taser going down the flanks.
I just knew that once they scored that was it,we would never get it back as we created absolutely nothing all evening.
As I said in a previous post if we want to get out of this league we need to be as good as if not better than teams like Burgess Hill and we were far from that tonight.
I don't like this narrow pitch theory. Ok, we have struggled to defend down our flanks at times but the whole idea of making the picture smaller when we are needing to WIN games seems very negative to me and hardly a move to increase entertainment. We're going to win sweet FA this season, so how about trying to make the game a bit better to watch for the long suffering fans ?
In my experience, making the pitch narrower is a sign of wanting to go long, rather than trying to get it down, play, get the ball wide, and get behind teams. However, you really need to play two up top and people who will go and support as soon as the ball is in the air. You need lots of energy and desire and it's pretty attritional. So I'm afraid supporters will have to get used to this way of playing. I think it's probably Plan B, as Plan A hasn't worked. I agree with Mick about entertainment levels. May seems a long way away with only a relegation scrap to look forward to.

If thats plan A and plan B how about plan C to increase the size of the goal that HUFC are attacking. Plan D to reduce each half to 25 minutes so that unfit players can perform better. Plan E would be to shorten the length of the pitch to the half way line again to give our unfit players a better chance.Plan F would be that the HUFC captain is allowed to blindfold members of the opposition for up to 20 minutes each therefore giving us a significant advantage.Would at least make the second half of the season more interesting!!!

I'm told the reason for making the pitch narrow was because Dom thought that it was very wide and narrowing the pitch would help making it more player friendly For the type of players we have, obviously if we had a squad with a lot of pace that would help but we don't and that plays into oppositions hands who do have pace.
Your comment about making the pitch narrower is quite amusing really, for example Arsenal are and have been over many years been the best passing team in the Premiership yet when they played at Highburty they had the smallest pitch in the league probably close to the dimensions we have now, so to say its a sign of playing long ball football is flawed. I personally think that Dom asking for that to be done shows that his thinking is on a different level to a lot of other Managers we've had, not one in recent years has asked for that to be done.
i think the manager need to get basics right before worry about the size of pitch. as tim say so many time on monday ball went just out of play when we was attacking. the size of pitch is same for both sides. Basics get players fit (like hastingsbuoy post), stick to same players and stop playing one up front. it might not work straight away but stick with it and in end we can be better. we look like 11 individual and not a team unlike burgess hill who all knew there job stuck with them and were solid. we look unfit, no shape, no discipline no organisation. dont know what happen when they train but dont look like we bring anything to game day

If our pitch was kept the same size for the whole season we might know where we are. If our players had more than 70% fitness the whole season we may be able to compete with most teams in this league. If we could decide our best team and play them week in week out we may increase our pass completion stats. I thought pre season friendlies were to achieve these things. Ramsgate at home must surely be our chance to impress supporters that we have something to show them. 3 points are a must for this game, no more home draws please! Defeat is out of the question.
I know that the not being able to field an unchanged side for two consecutive games has been a major frustration of Doms Chico. I think if we can put in a performance of that at Herne Bay we will be ok.
Thanks, Lenny for the "flawed" argument post. Must admit that I was probably wrong in my assessment, having dismissed 2 other theories, i.e. we aren't fit enough to get around a big pitch or we're getting played off the park by visiting teams using wide-open spaces. The final point isn't true, because I don't think anybody who has beaten us at home has been very special. As for not playing the same team, that's what can happen in our position. It can be frustrating, but if your squad knows what you are trying to do, i.e. pass it or hoof it, and has a sense of organisation, this can be overcome. There have been suggestions that our approach is changing. It'll be interesting to see how we play against Ramsgate, because if we are changing style, then we haven't had much time to work on it. I really hope we can follow up the Herne Bay win with another, and make the Pilot Field a difficult place to visit, irrespective of the size of the pitch, and we can push on.
