This cup run, only lasted four matches. But for the second season running, Hastings reached the third round. Unfortunately, the only thing missing , is the match day programme from the Sheffield Wednesday game. I have managed to source an image of the front cover and it is included in these pictures. It is not very high quality, but the best I could find. The said programme is the ''HOLY GRAIL'' of Hastings United programmes and is very difficult to purchase. If anybody owns a copy, please be kind enough to add a few scans to this topic.
Congrats. again Vernon. Just reading, this is amazing, looking at the crowds in some of the pictures of the PF. and the write up of the game when in 25 minutes Hastings went ahead, can you imagine what that must have felt like
being a fan, to go ahead against Sheffield Wed.?
Just so looking forward to some more
Just a reminder that my two books Hastings ReUnited and Hastings United in Time have details of the cup runs, including interviews with the players involved. Before my relocation to Cornwall I donated a number of both to the club shop. If they have gone, please e mail me. Looking to come up for the coming Folkestone game, rather than following everything on Twitter
I see the Hounslow v Hastings 1st round match was live on BBC, I wonder if the film of this match is still available somewhere perhaps in the BBC archives.
I wasn't born at the time but would very interested to see this match.
Brings back wonderful memories of great Utd cup runs. My dad went to Sheffield and told me how unlucky they were. I remember watching our great matches against the likes of Swindon and especially the one against Norwich which we drew 3-3 , missed a penalty but lost the replay. The next round Norwich beat Arsenal at Highbury. That shows what a great side Utd had in those days. Also remember we lost against Notts County at the PF 2-1 some years later. Exciting games played in front of big crowds. In the league gates of 3-4000 were not uncommon and even reserve games attracted 1-2000.Of course this was a different era.
Thank you Vernon .
Girling I recall the day before we played Harrogate at home one of the players from that squad came in to see us and talked about the game v Norwich and that ill fated penalty, he said apparently the ball stuck in the mud on the line of all places. Unfortunately I can't remember his name but it was clear to see how proud he was to have been part of that squad.
Bandit, I've just been talking to my dad about the Hounslow match as he was there, he remembered the order the goals came and talked about it like it was yesterday. I would love to see afilm of it too as family folklore has it that my mum, watching at home, saw him run onto the pitch at the end to pat the goalie on the back! Happy to say that both of them were at Middlesbrough to see us play in the 3rd round again.
Hi all, new to this forum. I own this programme does anybody know if the club would like it for display in the club bar area. if so let me know and i will sort it out.

Hi Saywended - I will have a chat with the others and let you know! - Cheers.
hi. wonderful to read these comments. the Sheffield Wednesday winner never crossed the line. that's what my dad said. he had a good view he was John Crapper and he was on the line at the time. but the ref on the edge of the box gave it.
Hi Mcroxfo
Have you a copy of my book Hastings United Through Time which includes an interview with John
I did leave a number of copies if this and Hastings Reunited in the club shop before I moved to Cornwall
Still have some copies left
What a shame.
My late father was at the match and was clearly seen on TV by the rest of my family when he ran on to the pitch to congratulate the Hastings goalkeeper at the final whistle.
