After beating Eastbourne United Association in the Prel. Rd we will now face
The team from East Surrey won in their Prel. Rd 2-1 against Chatham.
After a season of moderate success in the Kent League in the summer of 2013 former Whyteleafe player and Croydon manager John Fowler joined the club. Fowler build a completely new team in a very short time and one that made an immediate impact. The team went on to win the newly named Southern Counties East League by a clear 11 points and amongst much celebration the team rejoined the Isthmian League of which they had been members for 28 of the preceding 30 years.
Their start of the season is very good; after 8 games they are now on place 5 in the table; they won 5, drew 2 and lost only their game against Guernsey 0-3. They are now unbeaten for 7 games .
They play their games at Church Road ground Whyteleafe
And yes we also are unbeaten for 4 games but the team is not yet in Top form. Creating chances we do but the finishing must be better. Whyteleafe scored 15 goals in the league, we only 9. They conceded only 5 and we already 12. But we will gel to a better team and all comes with confidence. Will be a interesting game between 2 teams with both an nice unbeaten run. Hope the Hastings players are all fit and the team can make the next step.
In all fairness John I have it from a very reliable in the know source that Three Bridges have fielded a near whole youth team tonight. If you recall last time this happened Allen scored 6 I believe it was v Crawley Down at Christmas. I'm afraid that results like this will be happening at least once a season where Guernsey are involved due to work commitments for the players.
The definition of gel is a semirigid colloidal dispersion of a solid with a liquid or gas, as jelly, or in lamens terms, 'clutching at straws' as Chris correctly points out. I use hair spray anyway Steve you old hippy.
Chris 's definition of gel had to be discounted as he can't have used any for years! Baz probably too. I don't need gel - I'm too busy trying to buy caffeine supplements to stop it falling off and John is probably the only one who can talk about gel. After all he must use a tub a game on that Barnet! Look at the gel on that!

Much better from the boys today and apart from a 20 minute spell just after half time I thought Hastings just about shaded it and deserved their win. It was by no means perfect and some of the passing could of have been better but a huge improvement on past performances on a pretty average surface.
The first half was a cagey affair with both defences well on top. Whytleafe probably just shaded the possession but Josh had very little to do whilst at the other end there were a couple of half chances for Ade and Frankie and Sammy saw a free kick just inches wide.
The 2nd half did not start great for Hastings with Whytleafe dominating possession and Josh having to make a couple of smart saves before they took the lead from a close header after good work down their left. A couple more half chances came and went and Hastings suddenly started to dominate and deservedly equalized after a bit of a scramble and a close finish from Sam Adams. After that I felt there was only one winner and what a way to win it! A stunning finish from 20 yards by Ade in to the top corner of the net. Young Bright could have made the game safe late on just missing out on a great cross from Frankie but Hastings held on fairly comfortably to get a deserved win.
Much better performance defensively today where Razor was immense. The two boys up top worked tirelessly and Frankie looked as sharp as I have seen him for a while. But for me stand out player on the pitch was young Bankole. He was everywhere today and put in a fantastic shift. Great result, huge improvement, is this the moment when we now really kick on. Well done to all today
Was nervously following on twitter on a sunbed in the canaries. Fantastic result and nice to hear It was an improved performance. Lets hope this is the kick start of a run
Mr Rudkins was there today Mick and he was not impressed, think that's a big no!
Some interesting scores today. Maidstone put 10 past county league leaders Littlehampton . Romanian and Indian sides Fc Romania and London Tigers both advanced to the next round and in the league Three Bridges, off the back of conceding 8 at Guernsey, won 4-1at 2nd placed Corinthian. A goal and debuts from a certain Crellin and Whitehead.
Great day out and a deserved win. Apart from the opening 15 minutes of the second half we always looked comfortable and what a strike from Ade to cap it off. Hopefully this will kick us on in the league as John says.
It didn't go down too well Chris, Tas complained that the ball kept getting stuck in his feet and others said it was heavy on the legs. We said that you wouldn't have a grass pitch that length to play on.
I thought like others have said apart from the 15-20 minutes of the second half we looked very good, great to see us once again come from behind against a team who have won 5 out of 8 games only loosing once so far this season.
I think after Ade's goal we can probably see the brothers Olorunda fighting for goal of the season come April time. Bankole was superb today, chased everything down when he gave the ball away worked hard to get the ball back. Another good performance from Sam Cruttwell again, I don't think you can say anyone had a poor game today, a great effort from all the lads.
Not surprised they didn't like it, hopefully the club will be mentioning this in a report as its not sour grapes, as I thought these pitches were supposed to aid the game not hinder it. I watched the Welsh game during the week and it looked similar.
For once today we had effort put in praise the lord!
Good team performance and agree Bankole was as a breath of fresh air for me. Defence still looks dodgy and their goal came from a lack of pace at the back to stop the cross so it needs addressing but that's for another day let's enjoy the win.
As for the pitch it did look a much slower surface that the one at Maidstone. I think Whyteleafe may have problems with it in the winter weather which sounds silly but we'll see.
A friendly club and wish them well for the season apart from when they play us.
Result of the day Worthing winning 3-0 at high flying Dulwich.
I see Tiverton and Bideford drew so either one of those please in the next round.
Probably the couple of muppets behind the goal in the first half Barry, did anyone hear them? Poor Steve Thorpe was close to suicide. And did anyone else see the unfortunate female Whyteleafe supporter run to get the ball and run into the floodlight stanchion, hilarious.
Special thanks to the Hastings supporters who chipped in to buy me a tub of hair gel today. You p##s takers.

You talk about sour grapes Barry, This from their forum. Give me a great cup run any day, never forget those days at Harrogate, Bishops Stortford and Middlesborough.
We were out-muscled by a very large route one team and you can't argue with the winning goal, a stunning strike.
The Ref you can argue with - we didn't get the drippings off his nose.
Personally I wasn't really up for it. It's not just sour grapes, I honestly feel different about cup games and only really care about the League these days in all truth. Cup games just don't seem to have that edge.
Let's bounce back on Tuesday night at Three Bridges.
Saw that John, if they had enjoyed the cup run we did and benefited from the revenue we did I don't think they'd of complained. Mind you I think if they had of drawn a championship club in the North East in the third round I dare say they would of only mustered 64 away fans.
I think the cold light of day has seen a bit more realism on their forum. The supporters I met yesterday were all very friendly and this post on their forum is a much fairer view.....
" I can't agree with much of that Mark. A good FA Cup run would be high up on my list of wishes for the season. It provides great drama, a chance to visit new clubs and most importantly can add significant income to the clubs coffers. We wouldn't have the main stand behind the goal if it wasn't for the run to the 1st round proper in 1999, and anyone who was around for that run will never forget the excitement it generated.
Thought Hastings just about deserved their win today. They were stronger than us and in the end more . Their 2 centrebacks were immense and in the Adams (8) and the Sawyer (10) they had 2 of the best players on the pitch on the day IMO. We played some lovely football at times and created a number of opportunities but I can't remember the Hastings keeper having to make anything more than a straight forward save. I think we missed JTs presence in the centre of midfield but saying that he did an excellent job filling in for Dylan at the back. Also thought the ref was OK. He wasn't overly fussy and seemed content to let the game flow which made it a better spectacle. And in all honesty it was a pretty good game to watch with both sides playing football and the result being in the balance to the end.
Anyway it's back to league business on Tuesday when we play Three Bridges who thrashed 2nd placed Corinthian Casuals yesterday, 4.1. Hopefully Jensen can recover from the knock he picked up yesterday. He limped back to the changing rooms with stud marks on his ankle so must have taken a hefty hit! See you there!"
Incidentally - going back to the point of whether the players liked the surface or not, I thought that their keeper - as good as he was - seemed to struggle with the bounce a lot and fumbled a few times. He also didn't seem to get much lift when taking goal kicks. I spoke to our under 18s keeper who trains on this surface all the time and he said also that it can be difficult for keepers. Would be interested to hear Pells view though as he seemed ok with it on the whole.

But Josh is an excellent keeper ! He will do on any surface.
One thing stands out with Josh is his handling is superb especially in wet conditions, I can't recall ever see him thumble the ball, not saying he hasn't but I've not seen him.
Pleased with the performance, think that we deserved it on the balance of play - and what a finish for the second goal, deserved to win any game with that!
Over-riding memory of the game will be the pitch though - I was shocked, and I mean *shocked*, at how poor it played. The one thing I would've thought a 3G pitch would give you would be a good bounce and the ability to ping flat passes around - but the amount of times we saw a ball along the floor bobble, or a bouncing ball bounce twice as high as it should, followed by no bounce, followed by a bigger third bounce was unbelievable. Within about five minutes I'd noticed it, and by the end of the game it was driving me mad! Was also quite surprised by there only being 150 supporters there (seemed closer to 250 to me), plus the fact that the far end of the ground is completely open behind the goal, could that be the reason for the discrepancies in numbers?!
Good bit of back-and-forth with the Whyteleafe goalkeeper and a very welcoming club all the same though, was a good day out - after getting lost on the way to Eastbourne and turning up 5 minutes late, I was on time for this one... Just... Got the train from Croydon at 14:40... Close...
No I've not seen him fumble either but it was just an impression I got that their keeper found it difficult. What we all seem to agree on is that it was a poor surface.
first very friendly club and some nice supporters and good to go to a place with a warm welcome.
the game think our best performance of season with less errors more work rate and better passes. yes Bankole had great game, best so far but my mom was sam adams his work rate is extraordinary and if all players put in his effort we would be a great team. Only player i was disappointed with again was Rose, i still cant believe he played league football. Great goal by Ade to win it and over the whole game think we deserved it with the better chances and most shots at Pelling were pretty easy for him. cant disagree with how important fa cup runs are so looking forward to draw tomorrow and hope we dont get a team with a artiicial pitch.
and the pitch, wow how bad was it! i saw things that say they are as good as grass and make for good football with consistant bounce and ball roll. how wrong is that. the black stuff flying everywhere annoying, the ball sometimes did not roll, the bounce was sometime high sometimes no bounce and as Glen says when the ball rolling along surface it was bobbling everywhere. if that is football to be then i think a lot of people will find it hard to watch a game on it. hopefully they will get ban like last experiment with Luton Qpr
