After a flying start against Walton Casuals we will play for the first League game this season at The Pilot Field againstWhitstableTown.jpg

They won for a crowd of 161 their home game against Walton & Hersham 3-2 . Nick Treadwell scored 2 times including a 90th minute winner.

Last year we played first away against them on March 25, we drew 1-1 and Mc Creadie scored. 3,5 weeks later at home we were 0-1 down for a crowd of 382 but then Frankie Sawyer (2x) and Sam Adams made it in the end a very good 3-1.

Reading the match report on http://www.hastingsobserver.co.uk/sport/football/united-make-the-ideal-start-1-6230167 Ronnie Dolan scored one and made one before coming off injured in Hastings United's 2-0 win at Walton Casuals. Picture by Terry S. Blackman we played a very good game ; only the lack of scoring more goals and a injury for the reborn Ronnie Dolan ( see picture ) can be mentioned as negative.

Let's hope for a big crowd at The Pilot Field on Monday evening. Winning against Whitstable will not only bring more confidence for Terry White's men, the 6 points then will see Hastings maybe on top of the League table.

So hopefully a lot of Hastings supporters will turn up for this. Enjoy the match.

1-1 after 90 minutes. Reading the updates from Twitter it seems a fair result. Whitstable had some good chances and Hastings at the end.
445 turned up for this match and that for a Monday evening sounds very good.

Probably a fair result...think we had more than enough chances to win it comfortably but enough 'sticky moments' to have lost it too. Sam Adams was my MotM though gaps around our left fullback area were again a worry. Sam C is a good young player but he needs more support from the left midfield.
I'm sure we'll play a lot better than that but some credit must go to Whitstable who looked useful and we had far too many close shaves tonight.
A long long way to go yet to make any rash predictions, one way or the other.

we made lot of chances but think whitstable wanted it more. they sharper, quicker an stronger and over all game fair result and disappointed with what i saw from hastings. talk of all quality signings but not much different between the 2 side. could have lost game so maybe a point is ok but how ade missed that chance from 4 yards? isjust amazing. think my mother in law would have bury that!
on plus side frankie goal was brilliant, on negative side agree with mick and teh goal Whitstable score from was very poor defending as a team and to win league you cant let in goal like that and miss easy chance like ade.

Thought the Pilot Field looked great after all the hard work put in during the close season. The game started well with both sides looking dangerous but after missing some good chances we lost our way during a very scrappy period of play. As Peter pointed out Whitstable were really up for the game but this is something we will have to put up with and match at the Pilot Field. In the end our missed chances allowed a competent Whitstable side to escape with a point.

Thanks Dan: interesting and pretty realistic comments. For me though, among the considerable positives, the disappointing feature of last night's performance was that we did not make any adjustment (at least none that I could see) to the clear threat from Whitstable's wide right player. Several times before their goal was scored he was in acres of space looking for the long ball which he duly got. I don't blame Sam Cruttwell; collectively the defense needed to recognise the threat and adjust.

Well done Dan and Liam very good set of interviews.
I think losing Jordan to a nasty tackle made a difference to the balance of the side. Like others have said the threat came down our left and we need to deal with that better. Sam Crutwell was left exposed too often. I hope Jordan recvers quickly as he looks a class player and Ronnie was missed last night but wouldn't know who to leave out but guess that's what Terry is foor.
Nice to be top of the league.
Roll on Saturday.
