Indeed it does show how crazy things are. The truly amazing thing is that more sides do not crash when they indulge in unsustainable expenditure. The long awaited reality check in football never seems to come!
That backs up a point the chairman made last night Geoff, if players find out that's what others are getting then it starts a free for all in them asking for more etc. this is non league football for Gods sake how can that be right paying that amount of money? It truly is ridiculous.
Yes, I'm sorry I couldn't make it last night, to hear DW's views; but I very much support the line that the first duty of those running the club is to ensure its long term survival. That means keeping a very close watch on the finances and not paying crazy wages in the hope that that in itself will bring success!
Absolutely barmy money! Lot of time for Zac (and his family) and can't really blame him, that's 40k a year for a part time job. Must of been a difficult decision after playing in front of 2000 supporters each home game, but good luck to him. I hear the new Margate owner is Bob Laslett, ex Wolves director.
I think what this does show is that if our budget is to take us into Ryman Premier, the next step to Conference south is near on impossible with clubs offering these type of wages. What chance do clubs like Hastings have with rich benefactors going round offering £800 a week?
Interesting to see that Dover are interested in signing Ross Allen from Guernsey. Surely if that went ahead, it would be great news for Hastings and our chances for next season.
Frankly obscene. This is more money than a ward sister and a Junior Doctor get. That is not right. Clubs like Margate just make this nonsense easier to happen. Shameful.
Most of us thought he was decent but not to that level, was never the most prolific scorer and not a targetman. a good 'second striker' i think.
Imagine its the first season he's scored more than 20 goals and can Margate get a team around him that quickly from scratch who can help him do the same? massive gamble!
This may sound like Im trolling, but the wage bill for newly signed players for MFC is/has been ballooned way out of proportion. Even if this was the wage offered to Zac (or any other new player) do you really think this would be made public....... as a wise man once said "Don't believe everything you read".
I'm sure it has to an extent but it wouldn't have been made public from Margate anyway but more likely from the player himself talking to a mate or someone senior at Maidstone who dealt with Zac and knows what was offered.
Kane Willis from Bognor however he surely would be on very very good money indeed to get him to travel across to Margate and stay at Ryman Prem level as looked likely to go to Conference Prem or higher this season. Excellent player.
Would be intrigued to know what Margate fans think of it? delighted with the big signings or a little bit cautious?
I know that there is a very attractive bonus scheme for the whole team - thats where my knowledge ends. As for my thoughts on the journey we (as a club) are about to take............. c'mon - who wouldnt be excited (nervous also) but with Terry Brown and Stuart Cash (their CVs say it all) at the helm with a not so shabby budget, and a team that is shaping up (on paper) to be at least in the play-offs........... cant wait. :)
On the downside every game will now be a must win and maybe that will make sides coming to HDP more up for it.... will have to wait and see........ looking forward to the season ahead. :)
Oh can def understand the excitement, and sure you will be in the playoffs at least just hope the chairman's in it for the long haul and not accruing a debt against the club or anything!
I have spoken to our new chairman on several occasions and his excitment about the club/fans and football in general is infectious to say the least. Yes he is a VERY rich man, but he's not rich because he's stupid with his money.... very few rich people are, re: budgets where all this dollop about 6 million to conference and 12 million to div 2 comes from is much like the dollop about Jack Midson and Sammy moore coming from AFC Wimbeldon. The players that TB and SC have bought in I think are on or above their game in Ryman Prem..... if and its a big IF we gain promotion next year then I personally see a majority of the team released to bring in Conf players and above........ not official and not a load of dollop either just my opinion.
Regards Hastings Utd - hurry up and get promoted as you lot were a good bunch on the terraces :)
