Look at that pitch! Photo was taken this week during the Easter Schools training on it.
For this stage of the season it's exceptional, even the Spurs and West Ham groundsmen were full of praise when they did the recent pitch inspections for the award.
If Si & his team don't win it then I cant wait to see the pitch that does!
Did I give you permission to use my photo Dan. Lol. In all seriousness the picture doesn't do credit to the goal mouths. The pitch is looking superb and what you see will not have been prepared for Saturdays game yet, it will most probably be cut twice before the game.
I recall playing a number of cup finals there back in the 80's and it was a terrible surface......just a lot of rather rutted and gritty sand and not much grass at all. So I totally agree that this is now a fantastic playing surface, better I'm sure than an awful lot of lower league grounds. No wonder we play such marvellous passing football.
Everyone remember Tooting's ground from that play-off final in 2007 ? Was there actually ANY grass on that ?
There's not much on it now Mick. I'm not certain of the exact number however I know its close to 50 games played on it this season. This picture was taken the other day and you can see the cover in the goal mouths. Simon reckons it's the best condition the pitch has ever been at the end of the season.
I honestly run out of superlatives . It's just phenomenal how good it is and Simon and the boys must take so much credit for that. Hope they win. Was at Elland Road last month and the pitch was good but not any better than the Pilot Field
I'll try and find and scan a picture from my Sunday league 'clogging' days when we, The Oddfellows Arms,(better known as Tesco Express) beat Hastings Postal in the Peter Harris Cup in an absolute total Pilot Field mud bath...and it was about this time of year. Can't remember the year ....but on the same newspaper cutting Hastings Drew 4 - 4 with Dorchester the same week !
When I first started supporting United, seven years ago, my heart sank at the woeful state of the pitch. Particularly as my previous club Kingstonian then had a superb playing surface at Kingsmeadow (admittedly it was not so great at their original Richmond Road ground - for those who can go back that far!).
So, I think it absolutely amazing the transformation achieved by Simon and his team at Pilot Field. All credit is due!
What a fantastic job well done to simon So looking forward to the whistable game COYU'S
So all to play for so get behind Terry and the boys and as our pat says sing like a teenager at a one direction concert lol
