Very sad news, I know that there's been issues in the past between the two clubs but no one likes to see something like this happen to any club.
I hope that they get some type of club back at some point although would imagine it would have to start in East Sussex league now they've left the SFCL.
That's one less potential 'derby' match for cups etc which is never a good thing. With Sidley currently gone as well Sussex county league football is in a poor state.
so sad to see two local clubs fold this season, just goes to show spending money you don't have on players is not a good thing.I believe the standard expected by the fa on lower county leagues is too much as with the weather we have had a club cannot get revenue from gates etc and money from rich believers soon dries out as there is no return at that level.such a shame, also I bet a few managers phones were melting last night with over use.
From the Nomad forum. Looks like they will be back next year in some capacity.
Funny old game it turns out the man who approved the ground grading for Rye to play in Div 1 now he's got the big job has now decided Rye will play in Div2 next season , just shows what power does to people , and our near neighbours also complaining , and of course some of our West Sussex teams who will be pleased with Ryes exit shame on you all.
From what I've heard it has something to do with them not having and enclosed ground, the same thing which prevented Little Common from being promoted this season I believe. Allegedly Little Common unwittingly queried why Rye were allowed similar arrangements and this prompted the league to look into the matter. I'm not certain if this is fact but is what I've been told. It's a harsh decision to relegate them for that reason if those rumours are true but when all said and done they couldn't be promoted with their current ground situation which makes you wonder why throw all that money at it when you've reached your peek with current facilities, Surely if the money was spent on maybe a ground which could of been developed that would of been a better option? I really don't know how much has been spent there but I understand it's an awful lot of money.
"Thanks to everyone who have sent so many messages a bit like reading you own obituary column but many thanks.
There seems to be a lot of speculation about why we have removed ourselves from the Bumpkinship league so as they have not issued their own statement I will try to enlighten everyone.
Once upon a time a decade ago Rye were inspected and given County 1 status. as the years went by new legislation came into being and like many clubs we got ourselves a new stand for100 non existant supporters to sit in
Then we had the fire but before we could rebuild we had to change the plans to conform with county 1 IE 2 referees changing rooms and various other enforcements.
Now because of all this our insurance was not enough to cover the building but still we plodded on because we wanted to play couny 1 football.
In the meantime a local football club was denied promotion because of their ground so they decided to put in a complaint about ours, this led to the same people who had let us go ahead get into debt demoting us to county 2.So we have a stand we don't need and a state of the art clubhouse which we did not need either all because of there incompetence.
They let us fight their corner against the FA when we could have gone into the combined league .Yes we are pretty gutted by the way they have let us down.
Anyone want to buy a stand ?"
The SCFL. Have tried to defend the grading position of Rye but the FA have the final say. As I understand it the FA thought the pitch side fence at Rye on the cricket square side was a permanent fixture but investigated after another club queried this with the FA. As I further understand it the FA had not made a final decision on the subject but Rye decided to at an EGM Finnish playing.
People should study the National League System grading requirements before casting aspersions to such as the SCFL who do not set such requirements.
Dave,
Thanks for that, I hadn't at the point of posting read anything from Rye and as Pat has now posted something from Ryes forum it shows what the story is.
Didn't they have to stop playing home games when cricket season starts anyway? Think Rye council have shafted them with that one especially when you have all those fields on the other side of the river where the rugby club play.
Their pitch was appalling mostly due to seawater flooding and incredible lack of attention from council contractors. Personally have only been there twice but the welcome from the majority of their fans was good both times. Always wanted to do a Rye vs Hastings Saturday cup trip but won't get that chance now :(
Sounds like they are selling the lights as well so maybe won't be coming back anytime soon as you wouldn't sell those if you were. I'd imagine you may see a couple of their fans at ours now more often but the majority will prob go to watch Ashford.
Such a shame. Got to feel sorry for Pat and Clive Taylor and other supporters/volunteers who've put countless hours work into keeping the club running, such as the new clubhouse, the the new stand which has probably never been used, the temporary fence on match days, putting up and taking down the fourth floodlight every year... all that whilst having to deal with an inept council, as Dan says their equally inept contractors and the playing surface, the councils chums at the cricket club.
I see Sidley are entering the East Sussex League next season and hoping to build from there, hope Rye can do the same!
