Watched today's game, my honest assessment on Hastings performance today was they tried to play a 4 4 2 with no width no third runner and absolutely no service to the two front men ,then the defence far to deep , midfield where 10 yards from them  which left 40 yards from midfield to the forwards, it must be an inexperienced manager who made the decisions for the substitutes, if there is no service to the front men there lies a problem , then you take off the holding midfielder when your 2-1 in front you are asking fir trouble.that's the reason for dropping 2 points and that is a fact, this is constructive criticism , hopefully the manager learns by his mistakes sooner rather than later

Well we did have Tom and Sam playing wide but both would probably be better employed in the middle. Don't think taking Tim off made us any more open at the back as Mertsham looked equally dangerous when he was on the pitch. Agree that our midfield is not particularly mobile or dynamic but thought the substitutions improved the performance marginally. Don't think playing Frankie and Trevor together is an option after today. So many poor performances lately- beginning to think our players are simply not good enough to win promotion.

I agree with you , you can't put square pegs in round holes but to many county players don't win football matches in the ryman league, 2 centre backs far to slow no football brain , no ball winners between the two of them , your right with midfield , four central midfielders playing in today's game , take 2 from 4 and add 2 players with pace  to the channels  and there lies the service to the front 2, I,m led to believe the Frankie was there last year when Hastings got relegated but the boy mc Creadie has scored goals at every level and I'm led to believe he's only turned 20 , so it's down to the manager to get new players in and not players  that have previously played for the club , can't look back need to move forward  remember there is 3 to 400 people  who go every week , they deserve better fact

Not sure how you can say Ben Judge has no football brain.... One of the best CBs the club has had in years....

Having Bailo play might help the wing play

Frankie & Trevor both excellent players but as did t see today not sure how they will operate together.... Has Trevor scored goals at a higher level though?!

how did Sam do at LB?

Ben judge is the best centre back in years ? When was the last time Hastings won a trophy???? Now Hastings have played teams round about them in the league they are shedding to many goals fact , I have watched him for several games , as a captain he does not lead a back 4 he is not a ball winner and he does not come from the defence and pass it to the midfield and I'm shocked at the amount of times the 2 centre backs gave the ball away, the only way you would give the ball away from defence and be accepted in football terms is over the top and turn the defenders or in the channel for the wingers to run on to fact

Regarding the boy mc Creadie playing at a higher level , he made his proffessional debut at the age of 16 for Crawley town and scored goals for them

Sam at left back , he looks quite young , technically good , nice left foot sees a pass but this is my point a youngster playing with 2 centre backs who do not organize the back 4 by squeezing the play or dropping off , how will the youngsters learn .

Not sure who you are Northern Man as you don't seem to have much knowledge of our players at all.ben Judge is a decent centre back. We were not at the races for a lot of the game today but there were some good performances. WhT we need desperately is a good TEAM performance and we need it soon. RB and LB still look vulnerable. Forgive my scepticism but I am wary of new posters who don't reveal their real name.

After a great start to the season Ben and Irish have certainly let their high standards drop of late but I still really like Judge. Your right, his distribution isn't great but all the games I've seen this season he very rarely lets us down. JJ has to play central though.

With regards to Sam at LB Dan, I don't like to be overly critical as he's a youngster with tonnes of ability, but still not the answer at the moment for me. Over comits and dives in to easy at times and caught out badly for the 2nd goal positionally  but you could also argue best of a bad bunch today.

Correct me if I'm wrong , the north is a distance away from Hastings hence I don't know the players , but a team of individuals won't make a team , far to many players want to many touches on the ball , if they learn to pass the ball quicker and better you become team , let's not forget there is some good players out there technically , but you can't win football matches without runners, please remember I am a neutral supporter who observes football matches , as far as revealing myself why ? I am only calling what I see my honest opinion is my best opinion cheers

Hi Northern guy Aside from Razor I would like you to name a better CB.... He has played much higher levels and was player manager of Crawley Town himself so that would give you some indication of his football brain. Not sure what team trophys have to do with a individual's performance either, aside froM last 4 games he has been exceptional since he joined us.

Are you sure Mccreadie scored senior goals for Crawley at senior level as interviewed him recently and did t come up in that. Think you might mean Crawley Down... Was on Coventrys books as a kid though if I remember right.

Hi dan , as far as Ben judge goes must have been before the Steve Evans and Francis vines era so that explains why he's so slow , the ageing legs , as for mc Creadie , I'm am led to believe this is fact he made his home debut at 16 against gillingham reserves and scored within 5 minutes of coming on the pitch and he had spells at Bristol City , Stoke City until he got a serious injury hence this is why professional scouts are coming back to the pilot field which is good for the players and the club , let's hope he's contracted to the club as there is a lot of interest in this local boy

All youth and reserve matches though ( often the same thing ) don't get me wrong I think Trevor is quality at this level but no point making out he's scored goals at league level or anything as he hasn't yet though there's every chance he may do. ( our reserves beat Gillingham reserves last year 4-2 I think so that says it all! )

Like I say find me a genuine better class CB for Hastings in past 5-10 years or so and I'll buy you a beer while we argue about it :)

Frustration best sums up today. Trevor didn't look at his best - possibly because of his recent injury - but then the entire side didn't look at it's best for far too long - every now and again there'd be a decent little spell but nowhere near enough - and if that free kick had gone in at the death - great effort by Sam - then Merstham would've quite rightly felt hard done by.

I vehemently oppose the play off gimmick - totally against it - hate the lottery that is knock out football dictating who goes up with the side that's won promotion the proper way - but it is what United are fighting for now. They will not catch Peacehaven. Right now - aim for third and a home play off (Christ, did I really say that?) because Leatherhead will finish second, I don't think United will catch them either.

We wasted a game in hand today - we need to beat Hythe on Monday night.

And on a positive note - well done WELL DONE to all concerned for that pitch looking so good after the crap weather recently. Nice one.

This is what I love about football. It brings out the passion in people through heated debate.

Personally I think the key is the midfield. Whilst we have 4 across the midfield all playing as central midfielders (or being natural central midfielders) we will never get the penetration down the wings that leads to danger balls being put into the opposition penalty areas. Our Fullbacks will always struggle without the left/right mids tracking back to help out and support them. Good wingers, left/right midfielders, whatever you prefer to name them, need quick pace to break with, quick pace to recover to help defend and bags of stamina. Whilst we have their wingers attacking our fullbacks with the support of their own fullbacks pushing on, any player we put into the fullback positions are going to struggle, be caught out of position and allow penetrating runs that end up with the ball in our box. It is the players in front of those fullbacks that need to be the first line of defence whilst also supporting the attack by giving wide options to stretch their defence. Left & Right Wing/Midfield is physically the most demanding position in a team and we need players in those positions that understand they have defensive and attacking responsibilities and will have to work their nuts off every game to achieve that.

This lack of midfield mobility also has a knock on effect with the Centre Backs, because at the moment we are being stretched across the defensive line by opposition wingers who are finding it too easy to penetrate down the wings. It leaves us with gaping defensive holes and because we are stretching to get to balls under pressure we aren't clearing them effectively.

I think its true to say we didn't put in our best performance yesterday and a shame we dropped points when Peacehaven slipped up. As for the comment from someone saying McCreadie and Frankie aren't the right option, give it a chance it's the first time they'd played together. I thought Frankie looked superb and was unlucky not to get a hatrick, he is a great signing and will get us goals. Trevor is obviously coming back from injury and will need a game or so to get back to normal.
I have to agree Wooders is one of our best players but he'd be the first to agree he needs to get fitter and Bailo unfortunately isn't always available, it may be old school but starting a playing who is available for maybe 50% of the games won't help long term. I know people will say things such as if he's a better player etc but who would you drop to accommodate him and in turn p*ss players who are available off who are available?

I'm not sure where you're coming from re Ben Judge Northern, he is a quality player who reads the game well and despite his age IMO could play in the Ryman prem. Sam as John eluded to is a youngster and has only just turned 17 so has a lot to learn. If I'm honest I do suspect that you have a connection with our recently departed Manager and that I noticed, if you are indeed that person I believe you to be, that you were at the game yesterday that was your first visit to The Pilot field in a few months. So please forgive me that if although I respect your right to an opinion that they are somewhat comments that may be a bit biased towards your connection to John Maggs. As Pat said its always a bit suspicious when a new poster comes on here posting under a hidden username being critical of players etc especially after recent events.

Hi Lenny, as far a talking about john Maggs very experienced manager I have absolutely nothing to do with him , I take in a lot of ryman games , the only difference between Hastings and peace haven who are top of the league is that they play as a team , there players in there proper positions on the field where is I get the feeling the new Hastings manager is accommodating to many players / friends and a blind man could see that , this is nothing personnel , this is a complete observation from a neutral supporter , as of my time visiting the pilot field I have taken in 6 games recently and can only call what a football man can see cheers

Hi stevo, you are completely right , vickers cannot go passed people , he has far to many touches on the ball , plays with his head down but his strength would be a holding midfielder learn him to play with his head up , and his range of passing would be great for him because the boy can deliver great balls , and mark my words he would be man of the match 9 games out of 10 , as far as bailo goes he sees a pass quicker than most of them and always delivers an early ball where natural goal scorers like mc Creadie would thrive on it

Fair enough Northern, no disrespect intended but you can understand mine and others point about "anonymous" posters?
As you've seen us a number of times I wonder what you thought about some of our players that are no longer with us such as Sulayman Bah and Michael Aladetoun a couple of players I reckon could of been given a couple of more games longer? Having said that how about Ronnie Dolan?

Ok Lenny & mick , there is no question that Tom is a talented player but he has no engine to get up and down the park in the position he is playing in , you would see the best of Tom vickers in a holding midfield role and he would last 90 minutes better than the role he is playing just now , saw him with his hands on his knees twice yesterday after doing some runs so that tells me alone that he is not fit enough for the position he's playing . Do we agree on this ? ??? And Hastings talk about signing players , why not sign players from the ryman prem to help the youngsters , as for player of the year and from the games I've watched he has not dominated enough of the game , what I have saw is your goal keeper who I think is a very good shot stopper because he has had a lot of practice in these games , josh Pelling good goalkeeper for his size

I don't think there was any stand out players yesterday apart from Frankie Sawyer who showed why Terry went for him. I agree with Josh and I've said it before you'd not think he's a keeper for his size but has impressed me with his ability to smother a ball and hold onto it even in wet conditions. I would of liked to of seen Bah and Aladetoun given a better chance as I've said and am interested in your opinion, you obviously have a good knowledge for the game. All players deserve a decent rub of the green so to speak.
Interesting your point about Tom not in his best position and I appreciate your view that his strength is probably better suited to a holding midfield role but with the lack of strength at left back I think he offers us that bit of strength on the left to compensate for that, not ideal I know but that's how I see it.

Ok Len solution for Tom ,every manager in each league they are in should know 99percent of all the players in the league , there is 2 clubs in division 1 south that have a great support and one of them is not on this island the other is Hastings , so it is down to the manager to go and get an experienced left back to help Hastings correct ? Because with the support they have they could afford a descent left back and let's not forget you build from the back to move forward , as Hastings done in the earlier part of the season , hence you are near the top of the league so can't be that bad

I think its unfair to suggest that Terry isn't looking for players, he brought in 4 players within the first few days of getting the job something we never saw John do in months when he was in charge despite as you have said his wealth of experience and with that you'd feel he'd be able to attract the players too but he didn't. Terry knows a lot about this level of football including players having played in it and now managing in it. It's been no secret that the budget is a competitive one and contirary to what some on here may think I don't know what it is but the chairman has said openly that the budget is one to get us promotion.

Len point taken , let's not forget the hardest thing to do in non league football is to run it , the chairman and the directors are doing a sterling job , I have seen in my time at the pilot field one of the best playing surfaces , one of the nicest grounds that can create a good atmosphere when the home team is winning so 10 out of 10 to the gentleman who run this good football club . As far as signings go its what you bring in not how many , ?

Tom Vickers up to yesterday has been playing wide left very well. He was giving cover to the full back and setting up chances for our strikers. First half yesterday he was doing well and then came half time. I don't know what was said but Tom kept drifting inside and I and others could not understand why as it left young Sam exposed. Merstham were a good side and at the end deserved a point and could well have had all three. We need to keep our shape and discipline for 90 mins if we are to make it to the playoffs.

Have to strongly disagree with you there Lenny. Tom playing in that position causes a problem for the left back, rather than compensating for it. He hasn't got the speed or stamina to do the job needed on the left, which is why the left back is often left so exposed. Unfortunately its the same on the right hand side also. We keep moaning about the fullbacks but they are left with 2 men on them too often. In the present set up playing fullback on either side of the pitch is a thankless task at the moment. Left and Right wingers aren't just attacking options, they have to play a defensive role too.

Tom is quality, but needs to be in the centre of midfield for us to fully benefit from that quality.

I totally agree that tom vickers is a good player and that he should be playing central to get the most out of him, as of what I have seen he is not a winger. I think hastings really need a typical winger that does get up and down the line and feeds the front men, too many times the strikers look isolated as the gap between them and midfield is too big and I believe that is because the midfield is just holding midfielders, no wingers! Also Ben judge is a good player but I think having someone who is more of a leader next to him would benefit the whole back line

I find it hard to believe that people are saying we need new centre backs when there is just two teams in the league that have conceded less goals than us we also have one of the top 10 defences in the entire Ryman set up. Agreed we have games in hand on a teams in our league but top 10 in the Ryman set up which club wouldn't want that?

Just think they are too similar slow and don't get us playing out from the back, I think mccready and sawyer look like a handful for any defensive a lot of pace and movement both great players that have been brought in! Need more support they play as a 2 to much of the time!

This time I have to agree with you Lenny. I think the CBs are of good enough quality, the problem lies with wide midfield. They need to be box to box, which takes the pressure off the defence. The CBs are trying to defend over the full width of the pitch, which leaves large defensive holes. This is because we are allowing opposition wingers and overlapping fullbacks free rein down the lines. When we face opposition playing successfully with width and freedom we are bound to be stretched across the backline, which in turn puts pressure on any defensive player trying to clear. You can have the most brilliant and talented players in the world but it takes a well drilled and disciplined team to win games. Each individual player needs to understand their role and be capable of playing in that position. This means others don't then have to compensate for them.

Completely hit the nail on the head there. Also, we currently sit fifth in the league and we have conceded the 3rd least goals in the league, so, I don't really see a problem with out centre backs, even though, everyone will have a bad day...

Northern can you explain how your IP address is the same as the new account Alan? I suggest that my suspicions of you are correct. You may not be connected with John Maggs but I do believe you have a hidden agenda?
You come on here critisisng the management team and players and then create another account with a different email address which it seems have both been created to register with this site to back up your opinions.
I'm not sure what your agenda is but hiding behind usernames and creating a fictitious user isn't what a normal user of this site does.

Currently changing my trousers! Admittedly, I've done some daft things in my life, but agreeing with myself on a public forum by two seperate accounts is beyond me! Sorry, but what a muppet! #Busteeeeedddddd

So, are you the Northern Man, or are you Alan? The DNA Results show that you...are both! HAHAHAHAHAHA

I can understand any supporter wanting to vent frustration and critique performances. Players and management read this forum and when I see stuff like this I can only assume that there's an attempt to destabilise the team. I could be far off the mark of course.

I agree with you Pat. A shake in the build up and confidence perhaps. Yes, we all have a moan about things, but this is just comical. If anything, i reckon it'll bring the players closer and increase the camararderie between everyone!

that is very naughty. hope if players see this they show northern man alan what they are all about tomorrow. i think Kelly and Judge been superb this season, i also think Vickers has been one of our top player this season and think he has been given man of match a few times. i hope terry can get balance right be more adventurous and increase tempo we play and use wings more. with players he has brought in we have good footballers in team and i think with time we get better. hope northern alan is not a former manager that would be very embarasing

What a plank!

... or maybe we are being unkind and he just suffers from a split personality!

I think Plank Hamilton. What an embarrassing thing to have to go to such levels.

Maybe a suggestion that the guys from ADMIN on this great forum have sometimes an earlier look on IP adresses ?hmm
Very strange that newcomers ( sorry that i say this wink) have such a great impact and a pathetic one. What on earth was the meaning of this all?no

It means by no way that it is not bad at all to talk about tactics, best players positions etc but in a constructive way.

I hope Alan is as knowledgeable about the ryman league as Northern man. It's good to have a couple of new real "football" men sharing their wisdom on here.

Don't want to be checking things like that all the time to be honest Bert, we only check things when there's signs of obvious suspicious activity. 99% users on here are perfectly legit and bring great debate which different opinions but sometimes there is obvious patterns to new accounts etc that flash up a red light!

I know Dan, my suggestion was sometimes when things are so obvious.

Laughing out loud at Dave's posts. At first I thought you were being serious and then the post beneath it! Made my day mate.

See that Terry posted this on Twitter just a few minutes back:

Some people are deluded and very bitter, if you can't do what you promised to do move aside and let those that will, but do it with dignity.

Has this anything to do with this here above ??

I've just noticed that the Northern Man and Alan accounts have both been deleted, if there was nothing untoward about those accounts and the poster then why were they deleted?

It's not just about game time is it? There's other things players can do to help their fitness.
