Although the weather forecast is not promising a few dry days the team of Terry White will have to beat a team that is full of confidence : The Lilywhites have struck eight goals in their last six games. However, all eight came in just two games either side of the New Year.Terry White has replaced John Maggs at the helm at Pilot Field this week and Turner , manager of Faversham admitted: “They’ve had a change of manager and I’m not sure that helps us.
“They are intent on going back up at the first attempt but that comes with its own pressure.“The pressure will be on them to get the result, especially with leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe and second-placed Leatherhead flying. I’m happy to play the underdog for a week. “We played well at home against them and managed to get a 2-0 win. We have nothing to fear.”
Hope Terry brings the big smile back at The Pilot Field
I really hope the match is on because I think it will be a really good game.
Unfortunately, while there has only really been some light rain yesterday evening in Faversham in the past 24 hours, it sounds like the weather has been alot worse in Hastings.
The weather on Saturday isn't looking bad, unfortunately with the ground being already saturated and heavy rain forecast for Friday night, I fear for the worst!
It may be forks at the ready on Saturday morning in an attempt to get the game on and we can always hope the weathermen have got it wrong (which is not an unknown scenario).
I think the problem is that it will be dry throughout most of tommorow (according to forecasts), then whatever work can be done tommorow will be washed come Saturday morning.
Anyway, like I said, hope its on.
As you say, weather forecast can of course be wrong and I will have my fingers crossed.
I know we keep mentioning a 'threadbare squad' but unfortunately the recent weather also hasn't allowed the U21s to have much of a run out. There are a few new players that have good experience of playing at this level and some playing at levels above, but it is difficult for Managers to cast an eye over this talent when they have not been able to see them in full blooded games.
There lies the problem. Does a Manager go with a player he may only have seen in training or at best a few scrappy moments on a muddy field because he knows his past history or does he hold off and manage with players he already knows. Its the proverbial 'chicken or egg' scenario.
I say this because I know of at least one such player, Kamran Glen (and I have previously declared my family connections to him). Despite being an 18 year old, he has played at Conference Premier level, at Southern League Premier level and was trained through his youth at professional club Academies. He has only recently arrived in the area to study at Uni.
People may accuse me of being biased but I honestly believe he has the right experience, the determination and ability to help make a difference. However, it would be a very brave manager that would throw in an untried and untested youngster and I understand that difficulty. The key question is whether this is a time for experimentation or not.
I understand your comments and thoughts Hamilton however I don't think with all due respect that Terry will give a young lad a game on, for want of a better phrase "hear say". My lad played for the club from u13 age group through to u21's and even making the 1st team squad on a number of occasions. Previous to playing for the club he was signed by Brighton and also whilst at the club had an extended trial and played quite a few games for Millwall and a trial at Fulham however was really being developed and not rushed into first team football, until he went off to Uni in August. My point is that its a case of better the devil you know.....
It's great to give the youngsters the experience of what it's like to enjoy the 1st team matchday experience and there's no harm in that but without knowing a player a manager regardless at what level they manage at would always want to see a lad in a game situation a few times before giving him a game in the first team.
I understand your points Lenny and I would be the last one to be critical of a Manager for not taking the risk. As I said, the weather isn't doing the Manager any favours because it hasn't allowed him the luxury of seeing potential players in decent match play.
Sounds like your lad and Kam are of the same age and are both sensible enough to ensure they are getting an education, rather than rely on the precarious world of football. I don't think Kam needs the 1st team matchday experience, because as I also said, he already has bundles of that experience with clubs higher in the pyramid and has played regularly in front of decent sized crowds at that level. However I take your point about 'better the devil you know' and I agree that it would be a rarity for any Manager to take that risk.
Is your lad tying up with any local clubs when he is at Uni? If not, let me know where he's at because you never know I may know some contacts in that area from my old scouting days.
Very kind of you Hamilton however he was given the option of training at Uni and playing for the club but decided that he was going to concentrate on Uni for the near future. He has his level 2 coaching badge and is doing a little coaching whilst away so he's keeping his hand in so to speak.
As of 9.30am the pitch this morning is playable but is very saturated. Rain is forecast for tonight but expected to clear by 2am so at this stage, if dry tomorrow it's possible the game will be on, however if there's any rain tomorrow then we may be struggling so we may need to fork the pitch in the morning. There is a pitch inspection planned for 11am tomorrow morning.
Morning all. Greetings from sunny Faversham. What's the weather been like down on the south coast these past 24 hours. We had torrential downpours in Kent but I gather it was patchy & some places stayed dry.
So as I lie in bed with a cuppa, pondering my movements for the day, could someone look out of the window & give me a pointer as to the likely outcome of the 11am pitch inspection and whether I'm still looking at a trip to your manor later today.
Cheers guys.
(Mmmm. More tea...)
We've had a lot of rain here in the last 24 hours (22mm in my garden to be exact) and I imagine the pitch is absolutely saturated.
For many pitches it would be a no brainier BUT the drainage is excellent at the PF so I wouldn't like to say just yet. We've had sun this morning but as I write its bloody well hailing golf balls !
Ah well. Shopping & DIY it is then... Unless I forget to tell my other half that it's been postponed, & spend the afternoon in the pub instead!
See you at some rearranged midweek later in the spring.
