Which is why I do not follow one of the "big" clubs Steve, in my opinion it is a waste of money ( a lot of money come to that ) just to watch a bunch of primadonnas who are disgustingly overpaid.
Totally agree Rev. I still like to see Arsenal do well but haven't been to a match for years. The only time I went to the Emirates was on a Freeby. Not the same atmosphere as the old North Bank. Can't beat non-league football.
The last time I went to Arsenal was in the 70s, George, Graham, Stapleton, Bertie Mee, and the like,it was a great ground then, didn`t go to every match, but did a few, great memories.
That will be down to the over ambitious, ex safe cracker, thief and burglar George Reynolds. 20 odd years ago I used to purchase artic loads of chipboard flooring direct from George, from his factory in Shildon. He was a right lad in those days and i read that he amassed nearly 300 million pounds after spending a few years behind bars. Once reformed (partly) he spent 25 million on a new ground for Darlington and promised the fans premiership football within a few years. They never even got out of the basement division and he left in 2004 with the club in administration.
Darlington are now plying their trade in the Evo stick Northern Premier and still averaging over 1100 per match at their new home of Heritage Park.
Its only detrimental if the money being pumped in is a loan, if its a gift / sponsorship of the club then there is no problem these clubs will have their day and drop back in time.
The Darlington that exist now are Darlington 1883 and are legally a new club with none of the honors or history passed on from the other club although the huge majority of their fans followed across.
