I find it ironic that someone, who to the best of my knowledge has been to very few games this season if indeed any at all, can comment on the goings on within the club regards team selection. I'm certain that the team selection is picked as it should be by the management team and no one else as you and some others believe to be the case.

Lenny i hope you are right, but you may know the answer to this question as i don't, who is signing our players? I ask because Pacheco doesn't appear to have been given a chance, and it begs the question why was he signed and by whom? Kevin, i don't think its a yawn yawn, as we are getting through rather a lot of players, and to the supporter who doesn't know the goings on inside the club, some decisions on the playing side seem strange.

The Pacheco situation is a strange one. Saw him have a cracking game at Worthing, albeit at left midfield, and yet he's not started a game since. And why send Charlie Slocombe back to Tonbridge? And where has Jordan gone? Had his biggest input into a game when he came on at Maidstone but not seen since. All strange decisions but would be utterly amazed if these were decisions made by anyone else bar John or Terry.

If you have a business and employ a manager to run it for you he needs to be given trust to do the job.

Would it be  right to question everything the manager does and suggest what should have been done.

If this happens in a business it can only end one way, the business goes nowhere and any managers of a suitable standard would not go anywhere near it.

I put yawn yawn because to me it seems inconcievable that a manager with J M's experience would ever contemplate letting a chairman pick the side, or sanction a signing of any player he didn't want while he was manager of a club. To me it just wouldn't happen. As soon as we have a run of bad results or performances it becomes a case of let's get the knives out for the owner. Have any of our previous managers ever said that DW tried to pick the team? Does anyone have any concrete evidence that this has happened or have there just been 'rumours'? I agree some of the team selections aren't what i would choose (as i said on todays match thread) but then isn't football all about opinions? Just because someone isn't playing who we think should be it's not automatically the owners fault.

have to agree with kevin someone with maggs experience and age is not likely to let anyone interfere. Dolan was his signing and he went on about him in paper and programme and he has been only average. mccreadie was a player he said he had looked at for some time and only decent signing. pachero was another he talked about but maybe he dont like him now he is here. there were all those french players but they have vanished. it looks like maggs uses lots of players to hope it eventually clicks. it does get boring that the owner is always blame the only blame the owner/ board can take is the appointment of the manager but at least the one we have now has luck on his side
ps Vickers another decent signing but when Lewes let him go it was obvious he comes back to Hastings so dont think that much to do with Maggs

Agree with Kevin 100%.
I don't always agree with JM's selections or tactics but I don't believe there is any evidence that he isn't in charge of all decisions regarding the playing side of the club.

Pacheco was probably the only player for me who prob should have been in, if Slocombe was around then maybe two, aside from that it was quite an obvious side, John obviously rates Dolan for what he does 'behind the scenes' on the pitch rather than Danny's rather more obvious goal scoring contributions.

Several people have commented though that Pacheco seems better suited to LM rather than LB so maybe john just prefers what Henson and Gilbert provide defensive wise rather than what he thinks Pacheco will bring? Vickers has LM tied up anyway.

Chris, obviously the chairman has an input into what players the club sign however this is the same input that any other chairman would have in any other club, the manager would ask to sign a player and the chairman would either sanction it or not for a whole number of reasons. I am certain that the only person who has an input in the team selection is Terry. John is a vastly experienced manager and I honestly feel that it is not only disrespectful to him thinking that a manager of his pedigree would be "told" what side to pick but ludicrous to think that the chairman would get involved in picking the side.

I can understand why people say we've signed this player and that player and where are they? I honestly don't know why certain players are preferred over others I've openly said about young Sam Cruttwell and Andy Corrigan both being given a chance, I've said that Danny in my opinion offers more than Dolan but that's it in a nut shell it's a game about opinions, but I do know for a fact that the chairman doesn't get involved in picking the side......if you don't believe me then ask either John or Dave Walters and see what they say. I've not known John for long but I do know that he will speak his mind and is honest.
As Pat has said its pointless

Think some clubs are run slightly differently to ours, not saying which is right or wrong, but some managers are given a budget and it's left to them how it's spent, so to generalise like you have is not entirely accurate. We know this happened at a club 30 miles west of Hastings. We also heard whether true or not that the Brazilian was not a Maggs player. I don't think the chairman picks the team, but I'm not convinced that he isn't involved in squad acquisitions.

As I said go and ask him.

also maggs wasn't at the club when Branco was signed, it took a while for his international clearance to come through which coinsided with Johns arrival.

DW has told me that he does not interfere with playing matters. He will have an interest in transfers as they have a financial impact on the club and as far as I can see this is common practice at all levels of football.
Can we stop this constant sniping at the club management because unless someone offers DW a large amount of cash he is the majority shareholder and doesn't appear to be going away despite the wishes of some supporters.
Lets get on with cheering the guys on to promotion which I believe is within our reach, despite some team selection disagreements I have in common with other supporters at the moment.
Happy and successful New Year to all.
