Sudbury is a very '' young '' club: AFC  (Amalgamated Football Club) Sudbury was formed on Tuesday 1st June 1999 from the amalgamation of Sudbury Town (founded 1885) and Sudbury Wanderers (founded 1958) making it then the newest senior club in East Anglia.

They are current 6th in the table Ryman League Division North One. They won in round 1 at home against Crawley Down Gatwick 5-0.

Will Maggs starting with the same line-up or will he bring in some changes in the team ?

15.00 at The Pilot Field.

Is Lee Boylan still playing for them - he could be massively dangerous, even if he is now getting on a bit...

Beating Crawley Down 5-0 might not necessarily mean anything seeing as they are on a spiral at the moment and I see they got stuffed 7-3 at Worthing this week. Not that complacency should feature in any way, of course.

I think this may be a tougher test than we've had so far in the Trophy but I think we'll get through again by the odd goal. Totally agree what Simon wrote I think that Crawley are on a downward spiral so not really concerned by their result in the last round.

I hear there is a pitch inspection at 09:30.

Is there a real danger of the match being called off?

There was some excess water on the pitch yesterday. The pitch was forked but not cut as it was to wet to get the mower on it. This was looked at by the groundsman around 7.30 this morning and he has said that the forking had done the trick despite some rain last night. Apart from having 2 cuts (1 Fri and 1 Sat)as per norm it'll be just the 1 this morning.
Unless we have a serious downpour Big D I doubt if there will be any inspection. I would think that due to yesterday's weather the groundsman was being cautious and warned your secretary.
Our Groundsman has won many awards for the pitch and if he has got the mower on it this morning then it must be firm enough, you'll not find him taking any risks in that area. Its a fantastic pitch and I'm sure you'll be impressed, have a safe journey and apologise if my previous post came across abrupt.

That's great news - would be gutted if it was off.

We're all leaving at 11am, our players traveled down last night.

If traffic goes in our favour we should arrive with a coach loads of supporters just before 2pm.

Cheers

I cant disagree with anything that John has said really. We were dire and personally - I wondered how long it would be before we were found out. Apart from Walton and Hythe away - I cant think of a full decent performance from the team and it pains me to say that.

I will disagree on Kenny though - he gives 100% as has been said -and he is our joint top goalscorer this season so far, so he is doing his job. That said, we need much more and he would benefit by playing off someone like Branco as I think he would score more. Powells - bit unfair on Branco as he was not fit enough to play today.

We need to concentrate on the league now and we do need some fresh blood to make that happen. Hopefully John W is right and there are some signings on the way.

I also see that John Maggs has won the Ryman manager of the month award for Oct.... 8 wins 1 draw and 1 defeat( including today )  is still pretty good to say the least and we need to get behind the lads even after going out of the main cups.

Not happy tonight! Get tired of saying it this season but that was dire. I know some of you are 'loving the way Hastings are playing this season' but I certainly am not. For 80 minutes today the quality on show was mind numbing and it was a complete bore fest! From the first to the 80th minute we were bereft of ideas and unable to pass a ball 5 yards. The formation looked all wrong with Kenny and Sam playing out wide and the totally ineffective Branco down the middle. Surely Branco should have played of Kenny's shoulder shouldn't he? We looked lightweight in midfield with Danny and Matt having poor games and showing a worrying drop of form over the past 3 games. The squad is so lightweight just think we expect to much of these 2 talented players.

The only positives I can take out of today's game are two the lads who get a bit stick on here, Kenny and Jordan. They were not scintillating by any means but both never stopped running and deserve credit for that at least.

And what about the ref? One of the worst officials I have ever seen. Even when we got a decision it was wrong. All match the Sudbury players were on his back and the time wasting was embarrassing. Was it a sending off for the elbow? to far away to tell.

So a great chance wasted today against average opposition, although they totally deserved the win and now at least we can concentrate on getting out of this ghastly league. Heard today we may have signed as many as 5 new players and if true it cannot come quick enough. I just hope we do not get the same old people coming on and defending that shambles. Kev Towner wrote a good piece this week about attracting youngsters to the football club and talking about our future supporters. Well I suggest we could start by improving on that as my son, who loves his football was bored stiff throughout and youngsters will not want to return to suffer that too many times.

Rant over...... now lets win this bloody league!!

Can't disagree with that John, from what I saw we never looked like scoring and the last 10 minutes was the brightest part of the game for us, definitely missed Irish and Timmy today but at least Irish will be back next week.

League has got to be the priority for us, yeah would of been nice to get to the first round but that could really could have an adverse effect on our league form. let's move on and concentrate on winning the league.

We were dire, but conditions weren't great, John, Kenny is supposed to be a striker but he is a woeful inadequate in front of goal, that 1st half effort was a sitter but he hit it straight at the keeper, but he did give 100% its just he isn't good enough. We need a goal scorer, someone with an instinct for goal.
probably a good thing we lost as those away midweek games are starting to mount up. On the brightside good result from Eastbourne town today.

Agree Chris, he just has`nt got a clue what to do with the ball, even when he goes on a good run, he just pussy-foots around and then gives the ball away. What a pathetic display all round.

I wouldn't be able to pick out one player for criticism tbh Chris as the entire team ( aside from josh who once again was solid throughout ) was very poor. There were far worse culprits than ken too today.

No fight, no creativity, no shape

Disappointing way to go out to a team who were average yet so much better than us on the day, fair play to them. ( except for their time wasting which was horrendous )

Arrows i agree he gives 100%, but he is not a Ryman ability player. What would i say to him "Hi Kenny, how you doing, do you think you are good enough to play Ryman football? " i would hope he would say yes i am good enough, then my response would be well i don't, and as my opinion carries no weight, end of.

Well it's over now, at least we've pulled in around 9k prize money from the trophy than we have in other years so that should help strengthen the squad in certain areas which will be much needed!

Seemed the arrival of done of these French players is much closer with international clearance being granted so just hope one is a left back and probably a forward....

Hope Ben judge is ok, elbow to the head looked nasty and left him concussed, he's one player we CANNOT afford to lose.

Not sure what game I was watching.  Thought AFC Sudbury were very good, one of the best sides we've seen this season.  Perhaps the Northern Division is stronger than the Southern.  Can't knock Kenny Pogue, at least he doesn't hide and keeps having a go.  As for Branco, he's nowhere near Ryman standard.  Remember also the players we had missing today, Tim Olorunda could have made a huge difference.  It hasn't cost us any points, Walton Casuals could only draw at home to Eastbourne Town, so if we can bounce back next week it won't look so bad.

Branco didn't look fit, pretty sure that given the right service ( which he wasn't ) he is easily Ryman standard, hasn't really had a proper settled run in yet

I agree, thought Sudbury were very good today, best side I've seen at Pilot Field this season. Had their finishing have been better, the game would have been over at half time. Better last 20 minutes. We've been winning this season, which is the main thing, but performances have never been great to me. Think today we were found out against a decent side. Thought Corrigan filled in well at left back today. Rodrigo put himself about, thought Sammy is much much better playing down the middle. Only when he was switched did things start to click better. The foul as well was definately in the box, no doubt about it. I was bang in line with it, and the clip was 100% just inside the box.

Anyone know what that wind up thing was Sudbury fans had that sounded like an air raid siren? Fancy that for our next home match? ;)

Let's focus on promotion now and 2 crucial home games.

Lenny you sad man, why would I say anything against Corrigan, not seen enough of him to judge, but I thought he did ok. Just because I don't often agree with you then you try to twist things to have a dig at me, then you go high and mighty with me, take a look at yourself and your conduct on this board before you have a go at others. I think your comment makes you a troll.

But you only a few weeks ago critised my opinion of him when I suggested he was given a go! Today he more than proved he's if not a better option the definitely equal to what we've fielded so far this season.
I am far from sad in fact as many on here know I'm quite a happy man and I think your comment is a bit of the pot calling the kettle black. Not nice when people are rude to you is it, does it ring any bells?

Chris, Lenny isn't a troll, you are defiantly starting to pick unworthy targets, is it due to to the Sean Ray era ending? And fewer targets to go for? You did attack Lenny's mention of Corrigan recently so you can't really deny that. Lot of people on here ( often not always the ones you'd expect ) want you warned or banned due to your behaviour and comments on here but I've resisted and really hope you look at what what you write before you press send as you do often come out with some sensible stuff that I agree with but often your post are provocative to say the least and seem to have no basis except for a desire to provoke....

The league must be the priority this season so although its nice to have a cup run, in my opinion it's not the end of the world. Very well deserved that John got the manager of the month award maybe today's defeat was the hoodoo kiss of death match that the majority of managers suffer after such awards? I hope so as our position in the league is certainly one we could push on from and stamp some authority on the league.

Kenny Pogue was our only threat going forward yesterday - he gives everything, he scores goals and is a lot more skillful than given credit for. I'm not sure what constitutes a good striker at Ryman South level - but he seems to me be more than adequate and might really start to do the business if he had someone to link up with. Branco made no impression - but is worth persevering with as he gets to gel with the team - and that would've taken a backward step with missing a couple of games.

Sudbury looked ok - sadly that was all they needed to be as United had one big off day. Leatherhead remain by a country mile the best side I've seen this season. The referee was utterly inept - at least both sides got a similar number of bad decisions. I commented on the potential time wasting by the Sudbury keeper well before they scored - sure enough he went into snail mode when they went ahead. It could of course be cut out by the watch being stopped till he kicked the ball upfield - but that's a common sense move that probably has to come from Blatter Towers. Along with cutting out this bollocks of the ball going out of play one side of the goal and the keeper rolling it along the goal mouth to the other side before taking the goal kick (perfectly sound tactics when, er, Josh does it.......)

Oh well - cup distractions have preceeded two relegations this last 11 years - time to 100% concentrate on getting out of this league. We at least remained second after yesterday's games and have matches in hand. Eastbourne Town of all people did us a big favour at Casuals - but look at Peacehaven.

Five French players? I did hear that Landry Zahana-Oni had quintuplets who are all even better than the great man himself................

We were way off our form yesterday but I thought Sudbury were pretty decent. Good friendly supporters and I wondered if the got the air raid siren from our old friends at Harlow Town but it seems not.

Badly missed Tim today so lets hope O'Connor came come in for the the next couple of league games.

We have 4 very winnable league games coming up now and if we are to win the league then we must be victorious in all 4. Worried about Guernsey but they may run into pitch trouble when the real bad weather hits and may get a fixture pile up. Peacehaven doing very well and I think there is some money there. as for the others I can only see Leatherhead as a danger but i have a funny feeling they will fall away.

Saw we had the 3rd highest attendance in a poorly supported competition over the years.

I have seen in the non league paper today an article about clubs at our level being able to play in the FA.Vase interesting.

Just going out to buy a beret, false moustache and a hooped t shirt so I am all ready for the French invasion.

Thanks for making the trip down to Hastings an enjoyable one. Your hospitality was greatly received.

Reading you post it appears you were not playing to your full potential which has helped us out, we've been drawn AWAY to Tonbridge Angels in the next round so we have a fighting chance there.....

Good luck with the rest of your season and hopefully our paths will cross again in the future.

All the Best.
