Wow, aside from the first chance ( which was his first touch for us ) the kid looks great, pace, intelligence and got a goal, early I know but about as great a 25 min debut with 10 men as I can imagine!
Totally agree. Imagine Dave W was hiding under his seat after that first touch but real class after that and could have had a hatrick. Should add also that Pogue had his best game of the season so nice to have some competition at last.
Defo a red card in my eyes clearly went in with both feet studs showing so red card all day long moment of madness from the kid so now he's banned for 3 games who will fill the void at centre back
Spoke to Irish after and he said that he tried to pull out of the challenge, I think although it was two footed he clearly won the ball and I don't think that the referee being assessed helped his cause and really put a taint on a game that couldn't of been any further than being dirty.
I really thought the penalty was a joke, it didn't even look like Danny had even made a challenge, a shocking referee who in my opinion was scared to make any mistakes due to the assessor being there. Maybe they shouldn't be informed of an assessor you may find referees reffing the game a bit more sensibly.
John were you asleep when Pogue made a terrible hash of a great opening all it needed was a square pass, he is nothing more than a sub at this level. As for Rodrigo you saw the good and bad, and probably why he struggles at a higher level, but let's hope he stays with us for a while as he is undoubtably better than what we have.
I think Rodrigo could be forgiven for his first effort having just come on not knowing anyone etc etc, but I was confused as to why Kenny didn't square the ball in the move Chris was saying about. Maybe he was caught in two minds whether to shoot or cross? He certainly didn't make the right choice whichever way you look at it, but I will say how supportive he was of Rodrigo leading the applause when he scored. Great sign of togetherness.
Don't think John was asleep - neither was I. True , Kenny should have squared the ball and I'm not sure whether what happened next was a cross or a shot, but definitely his best game so far. Branco showed that he can read the game well. I think that just sometimes it's a good idea to give someone a chance rather than constantly bashing them.
You can give Kenny many chances but it does not get away from the fact he isn't good enough for a team wishing to gain promotion. You saw more skill and understanding of the game in 30 mins from Branco than we have ever seen from KP. There is realism and blind faith and Pat if you think KP is good enough then the latter is probably your category.
Not sure there is a need to be insulting Chris. It does seem that anyone who doesn't see things the way you do is immediately criticised. I was merely saying that was Kenny's best game so far. I don't have blind faith at all and I do think Kenny is strongest coming on as sub . Can't disagree on Branco though - already has shown that he can read the game well.
If Branco fulfills the expectations most of us have of him then I think Kenny may have to play second fiddle however saying that it would certainly give Kenny the impitus to improve, watching a better player should surely give him some ideas to improve. I thought Kenny had one of his better games today apart from the cross/shot.
Far from it Pat, but it's easy to say KP had his best game, but in terms of productivity there was one tap in to show for it. Believe it or not I have respect for KP for at least trying to play football at the highest level possible and not looking for an easy ride lower down the scale. But I also want promotion and like many have said KP is a bench player.
I think Pat has agreed he's more effective coming from the bench Chris, I believe were all clear of your opinion of Kenny now and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying let's move on and hope he can improve.
Fair enough Chris - I still think that Kenny can improve at this level and hopefully he can learn a bit from Branco. I understand also that if we are going to get promoted that there cannot be any sentimentality from any if us.
Yes maybe Rodrigo can help kenny, maybe they can work together, maybe this is what kenny needs to prove himself as a strike partner , time will tell so let's see what happens over the next few weeks and give them both a chance
Spoke to Rodrigo after the game. Very knowledgeable young man. I hope he can build on today's performance as I think he will be a great asset to us. Got to admit - I love him already!!
Of course who wouldn't be when our Pats in the house? I think Pat could of made him happier by saying his name like I was trying to get him to say it in a South American accent! RRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOODDDDDDRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
I'm a little surprised Pogue gets so much criticism on here, when there is a player in our team at the moment who is far worse than him. I'm not sure how this guy gets in the squad, let alone a starting place.
At least Pogue puts some effort in.
Kenny is worth persevering with - this is one level above County Bumpkinship, you get what you get. In some ways he reminds me of Danny Whyman from many years ago - there were times when Danny flapped around aimlessly and made some complete howlers - but on other occasions he could get it right and come up with something special. And if a player is capable of doing something special then he is surely worth working with. Kenny coming on as sub against Leatherhead was a good move - he did ok and made a nuisance of himself. And he certainly did the business at Hythe coming on for the last 20. For now that may be his best option as others have suggested on here.
