The Club was saddened to learn the news that former long time volunteer Percy Vandepeer passed away in his sleep on Thursday, September 19, at the age of fifty-nine.
Percy worked for the U's as a matchday steward for a number of years, and will have been well known to many supporters, not only as a familiar face at the Pilot Field of course, but also for his pretty strong Scottish accent!
He was a very popular member of United's voluntary staff throughout his time at the Club, but Percy had been suffering from poor health for the past couple of years, and had not not been able to get to many games during that period.
However, the Club still remained an important part of Percy's life, and the Directors and staff at the Pilot Field would like to extend their sincerest condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.
I stewarded with Percy for several years and he was a genuinely nice man. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Condolences to his family.
RIP mate.
Im Gutted to hear this - Ive worked with Percy since I started volunteering in 2006. He was a genuine man - no flies on him at all. He had a great sense of humour and as Barrie says - an outrageous scottish accent!. Rest in Peace Percy.

'Percy, Percy, lend us a quid' or something very similar was heard one afternoon from the Boswell Barmy Army soon after he won a few grand on the Super Five draw. A real character our Jock with the Dutch surname.
Very sad to here this terrible news,I was a steward at Hastings for 8 years and Percy was a lovely guy and we had a few laughs at the away trips together rip percy
A fitting way to pay tribute to a man who loved our club. I thought flower of Scotland being played prior to kick off was a great touch, well done Pat and all those who applauded Percy, I'm sure his family would of been very proud.
totally agree great tribute in programme and before kick off with flower of scotland and minutes applause. presumably that was his family on pitch. very touching and well done to the club for way they handled this and good to see how much club appreciate people that help it
