Eastbourne were winning 3-0 and then Crawley down were reduced to 10 players. Looks like they made the advantage count. Mind you its not the first battering Crawley Down have suffered this season.
It's going to be a tough ask to win the league but I did hear something on MOTD this weekend regards Liverpool winning the title, I believe it was Gerrard and he said you've always got to believe you've got a chance. I suppose its a case of until it's mathematically impossible you should keep trying. If we don't then we have to finish as high as possible and 2nd place is a more realistic position. I won't give up hope until its impossible.
Your a positive man Barrie, its a good approach to life, and football, someone once said "never give up, and under no circumstances face the facts" It just makes you think of United`s position !!!

I try to be Rev, as I said its a big ask but ever the optimist. Now where's my lottery tickets?????

Totally agree with Barrie it's not over until it's mathematically impossible. Looking at the next five matches we COULD well pick up 15 Points. Having said that we won't if we play as we did in the second half at Tooting.

That the first of the five matches gone and we actually played worst then the second half at Tooting.
Seeing them play at Walton & Hersham the other day was the worst I've seen all season. I don't get to many away games, but that was exceptionally poor. We must up our game if we're to go for twelve points in the next four games!
FT Leatherhead 0-1 Hythe - Now 8 points behind Leatherhead but with 2 in hand. Leatherhead play Folkestone next week, with Guernsey at Peacehaven Saturday. Let's take advantage of this!
You can't help laugh at Peacehaven. From football web pages, development officer Andrew Melbourne says "crowds are steadily growing as people hear of our acheivments". Tonight 75 turn up to watch them thrash Crawley 8nil. How much longer will they be bankrolled on those attendance's?

Lol that made me giggle John. In all seriousness bank rolling clubs with that support is a recipe for disaster and can't last very long a at all Before it all comes crashing down around them.
I agree conquest but I'm sure that unless they at least treble their average gates in the next season or two then they will struggle to fund their ambitions. Just look at Whitehawk, in serious trouble of going down at the first time of asking sitting just outside the drop zone with the majority of teams around them with games in hand and an average attendance of just 195. If they survive this season I reckon it will only be a matter of time.
Having to keep an eye on Merstham too - hoping that Walton Casuals can do us a favour and beat Merstham next weekend! But Merstham also have to play both Peacehaven & Folkestone yet!

Unfortunately we ALSO still have to play both Peacehaven & Folkestone yet!
However Guernsey & Folkestone also have to play each other. Looks like Folkestone may have the toughest run in to the end of the season having to face 3 of the top 6 contenders with us and Merstham facing 2 and Guernsey only facing 1.
It's still all to play for and if we can sort ourselves out enough for an end of season run we have an excellent chance.
Agree with Folkestone having that tough run-in Hamilton, but after Guernsey losing at home to lowly Walton last night, don't think anyone can make predictions in this league!
I think we are nailed on for 3rd place and a home game in the play off semi. Have to accept that Peacehaven and Leatherhead have 1st and 2nd wrapped up but as for the other challengers for play off places I reckon judging by last night's result that Guernsey will bottle it over the last few games especially as most of them are away, Merstham will not be able to keep up their winning run with as quoted above games away to Peacehaven and Folkestone and having seen Folkestone a couple of times this season they look a very average team who won't pick up many points during the last few weeks of the season with tough games against teams in the top half of the table.
Home to any of them on Tuesday 29 April is fine by me and then be looking froward to a play off final at Leatherhead
It's more than a realistic target - I reckon (touch wood) we might have the easiest run in to the end of the season. Like Hastings Fisherman said, I reckon Peacehaven & Leatherhead have 1st & 2nd wrapped up, but we must keep up and focus on getting 3rd and a home tie for the play offs! I reckon (and hope!) the amount of away games that Guernsey have to play will tire them out somewhat and they'll crumble! Hopeful for a good win tonight too!

I think this word will be the most used on this forum over the next few months!
We have five away games left as do Guernsey and their away form is better than ours and two of our games will be very difficult at Peacehaven and Folkestone
It might help (or not) that by the time we play Peacehaven they should be crowned champions. Agreed the Folkestone game is very important; but I suspect that the outcome for us regarding the play-offs is going to depend on whether we get three points tonight and on how many points we get from the three 'winnable' away games. Terry W, in last week's Observer, made it plain - we have just got to somehow or other grind out the points and show some much needed consistency.
Always enjoy looking at the Football webpages site and the predicted Final table shows us edged out of the Play- off spot on goal difference by Merstham. They predict we have 3 home wins and 5 away defeats. What do they know, anyway?
Doesn't the report below from Saturday tell you everything about this dire league we play in. I'm pretty certain who ever does go up will probably come straight back down, and I include Peacehaven in that. Cant agree that we are nailed on for 3rd. Since mid December we have won just 8 of 20 games, with many of those defeats against bottom half teams. 5 of our last 8 games are away from home and during the same period we have won just 2 of 9 away games, with our only wins coming at Redhill and Crawley Down. Would love to hear from Hastings Fisherman why he thinks we will see a sudden change in form, particularly keeping in mind our injuries and lack of defenders. Even though its a load of old crap, I tend to go with Liam's predicted league table and think we may miss out with the lack of depth in the squad. I believe the number one priority now should be to sit down and start talking to Tom, Frankie, Trevor and Taser about staying here next season and building a new team around them.
It’s hard to believe that two sides from the top four in Ryman One South could have produced such a poor and forgettable game as the clash between second in the table Leatherhead and fourth placed Folkestone Invicta proved on a sunny Spring afternoon in Surrey, writes Mick Cork.
Leathered took the points with the only moment of quality of the day, a fine strike by their top scorer Tom Bradbrook after the ex-Sittingbourne forward was gifted possession following an uncharacteristically sloppy piece of play from one of Invicta’s usually more reliable defenders, Frankie Chappell, after 16 minutes.
At 1-0 down Folkestone had plenty of time to get back in the game but they played right into their hosts’ hands with Johan Ter Horst struggling to make headway against giant centre-backs Jamie Coyle and especially big Jerry Mnamani. Matt Newman and Nat Blanks worked hard in midfield but Ter Horst and Paul Booth were forced to live off scraps while the hosts were no more impressive at the other end of the field.
Invicta boss Neil Cugley, pictured, threw on all three subs as Mike Yianni and Phil Stevenson replaced Micheal Everitt and Josh Vincent midway through the second half and James Everitt took over from the injured Dane Luchford a few moments later. Skipper Liam Friend battled hard to hold his side together though it was Leatherhead who looked more likely to add to their lead than Folkestone ever were to finding an equaliser.
Boss Cugley had hoped his side would turn up refreshed after a rare midweek off but it was a Leatherhead side who - by the admission of ex-Folkestone midfielder Darren Smith have barely trained at all since Christmas following flooding of the Fetcham Grove ground who held on to take the points.
And with two of their main play-off rivals closing up behind them in the table Folkestone know they have to play considerably better than this unless they want their final game of the season on Guernsey to become meaningless.
The manager had said in midweek that this result was not “the be-all and end-all of our season” but another poor performance like this could prove exactly that.
“I can’t recall a game when a side of mine has not had one shot on goal,” said Cugley after home goalkeeper Deren Inbrahim was never tested throughout this dire 90 minutes.
Folkestone travel to the same neck of the woods when they visit Walton Casuals on Tuesday night.
My feeling is that the minimum additional points required to get us into the play-offs is 14 (including - let us hope - 3 tonight). My feeling is that if we do manage 14 points and get one of those at Folkestone we will have a chance of third place, depending on how our rivals perform. If we lose all our remaining away games, as the predicted final table suggests, then I can't see us going into our final home game with even a mathematical chance.
Whatever regarding promotion - realistically at best we have a small chance - John's point above is a fair one: we need to be looking to next season already. Yes, this league is poor in many ways, but with only one automatic promotion place it is always going to be a difficult league to get out of. If we repeat this year's procession of players and managerial staff we will have no chance whatsoever.
Totally agree John in that we need to start planning for next season. I think we can make the play offs but don't think anything could ever be described as " Nailed on" !
Main thing for me is not promotion but to build a team in which the Hastings supporters can recognize themselves. If that will be the case there will be a more positive approach between all the people involved in this beautiful club.
Probably about the best we could of hoped for tonight.Once again our destiny lies in our own hands in regards to a play off place.Noticed our next opponents Three Bridges and Sittingbourne both had good wins
Just spotted that the potentially huge game in determining play-off places between Guernsey and Folkestone will take place on the Friday night prior to the last Saturday of the season. I'm not complaining....it may work to our advantage in that we may know what we need to do in our final game. I'm just surprised that the league have allowed this.

Mick, we need to do that against John Maggs Crawley who won yesterday.
As I said in my previous post I am confident of 3rd place, all the other contenders are cracking at the crucial time while we have got over our blip and will pick up more points than most over the next three weeks. Guernsey have been struggling to win for weeks and still have some tough games, Merstham as I forecast lost in the past week and will not get to 80 points, Folkestone are the weakest team in the mix with have clearly gone downhill in past couple of weeks, with all us and the other contenders to play I think they will be the ones to finish 6th. Its a home play off match for us on 29th April.
I love your optimism, but really need to look at one game at a time. It's certainly not looking like a gimmeTuesday, at Sittingbourne, but that said,I am always pessimistic. Our home games are certainly winnable, but we have two very tough away games at Folkestone and Peacehaven.

I thought this letter from a friend of mine in Guernsey might explain their loss of form recently.
Injuries have played a major part and unlike mainland teams they can’t just sign up Ashley Robinson!! Against Sittingbourne they had 5 centre backs out injured. One of them who is out for the rest of the season is a better centre midfield player but has played most of the season at the back. He is 28 the Football Development Officer on the island, ex- British Unis captain and Oxford Utd player, another current injury is to another experienced player, most appearances for them, 2nd highest goalscorer (scored both goals in the win against Jersey last year) and their only really dominant player in the air in midfield and upfront. Also out is their only class defensive midfielder who plays with a bit of bite, is mobile and can pass it and Loaring their best left-sided attacker. So they’ve been playing mix and match for the past few games with the odd 18 year old thrown in. In short they lack leaders on the pitch it seems, as the first 3 mentioned are the unsung, relaible sort of players who make a team tick.
Win Saturday and a Burgess hill or Merstham defeat/draw, should knock them out of contention, opening up at least a 5 point cushion. A final day win too for us would do it. It's all back in our hands. I see Burgess Hill go to Leatherhead Saturday as well.
Three cup finals in a row now, certainly that's how we need to treat them! That's means players, management and the fans!
Should ( feel very conscious as I write that! ) beat Whitstable and Crawley Down at home so that just leaves Peacehaven but by far the best time to play them as they are already champions so hopefully their mind is on the summer and that relentless desire to win the league has now gone..... Can see us snatching a very very vital point there.
We have been fortunate with other teams slipping up but from their point of view so have they with our form as we could have been pretty much there already with a couple of better results over the last few games. Luck evens out I suppose!
Hope we take a load to Peacehaven on Monday and big crowds for last two home games!!
I can't see us getting much from Peacehaven to be honest, but I'm happy to be proved wrong. Winning the last two home games are key - I think that 6 points may well be enough now.
So....Folkestone's draw in Guernsey last night means that Leatherhead go into the final game knowing EXACTLY what they need to do to clinch the top play-off place.
Still can't believe the league allowed this to happen as it gives them a distinct advantage. Of course it would have been nice if it had happened to us.
