Need a massive effort from players and staff tonight, gutted I couldn't be there and fair play to those who are, Bury are not in great form with 1 win in 7 so this might be out best chance to do them! Come on U's!
Looking like 3 teams now who could go down, unless we win Thursday and drag a few more into it in for the final day. East Thurrock themselves must win to stay in the play off places, which is going to make the game twice as hard. The headbutt was stupid, when we're pushing for an crucial equaliser to do something like that is shameful really. 2 must wins, as simple as that. Let's just make sure we still have a chance of some degree going into Saturday, and hope Wingate lose Thursday. Until our names in red, we have a chance . . .
I sort of think he has little option now - Ray is a player rather than a manager and it's given him valuable experience for a potential managerial role in the future. A remarkable FA Cup run saw everyone grow to like Ray in charge, but under the scrutiny of the league performances, I have a feeling he may step down and I know a few people that think he same. Not sure who he could be replaced by though. Must admit, I liked Tony Dolby..
By the sounds of it Another frustrating result against Bury town tonight. Hastings lose and Vickers is sent off for violent conduct, Then Lewes & Thurrock managed to pick up valuable points. Now the lads really need to get a win at East Thurrock and like winchy_hastings said they are pushing for the playoff places so a big performance needed. this Couldn't be any more nerve racking, I still believe Hastings can do this. I just hope the players are still believing they can, Hastings have the quality to win the last two games and stay up in the league. Come on Hastings.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Basiclly though mate if the other sides win their remaining games even if we win ours then we're down.
thats the only situation in which it's certain however, loads of permutations aside from that though and probably not likely that it will occur but is possible.

in Bradleys abscence hes the most proven goal scorer we have on the books but agree he's not a prolific one and as mentioned before see him as more of a deep lying forward than an out and out goal scorer, him and bradley would have worked in that role if the missing peice of a goal scoring central 'target man' who was technically competetnt enough to bring them into play could have been found.
Suarez scored goals but was not ideally suited to our style of play at the time in terms of style and the other forwards were not able to feed off him in the same way
Hammond was technically excellent as you would expect from a one time ghanian international forward and brought others into play well and made them better but couldnt score the goals that were needed to justify his loan costs.
Neither was unfortunatly able to do both and the forward line has suffered as a result with Bradleys injury massivley compounding the problem.
Okojie and Bailo are in my opinion much more suited to the flanks than being the central striker mostly due to height and goalscoring reasons although Bailo is strong enough to do it in a pinch as at middlesbrough.
N'Diaye, Adams and Williams are the current options to do that role and can only hope that it finally clicks in the last two games, a bit of luck would be much appreciated!
Hard to be anything other than very pessimistic about our chances now. One point from five games and two more HUGE matches in three days for an already exhausted squad doesn't bode well. We'll get few favours from East Thurrock and only a win will leave matters in our hands on Saturday. Haven't totally given up hope yet.....we produced a few epic performances in the FA Cup and undoubtedly have the players to do it again. Trouble is every point matters now and any game can be lost on a couple of missed chances, a defensive error, a deflection, a poor decision etc.etc. and we can't afford ANY of those things to go against us in the next two matches. I just hope matters are still in our hands come Saturday...how awful to get a result then and still fail. I feel for everyone involved with the club.....we all know this shouldn't be happening to us......but somehow it is.
Interesting to see that Wingate & Finchley are offering free entry to home fans on Saturday to ensure they get a decent crowd cheering them on. I suggest IF we beat East Thurrock tomorrow, something similar by Hastings can only be beneficial to us staying in this league.
Certainly worth looking at imo. Cant imagine the reletivly few season tickets holders will be too miffed about losing a game, i personally wouldnt be at all.
Sorry, Dan, yeah you're right....even a win on Thursday doesn't leave things in our hands if Wingate win too..I'd missed that point....and it's not made me feel any better !
I know, felt sick when I realised that, as think we have a great chance of beating Kingstonian and a fair if bot likely chance of 3 points tomorrow but if everyone else does the same we're down. We needed something from those Hendon games in particular and to get nothing from those is probably the reason we're not in control now.
Carshalton and Bury for different were always gonna be very tough albeit winnable games but I think the Hendon results were really the ones that got away :(
The one that I am looking at still shows that Wingate & Finchley have two games left, like ourselves. We are currently on 36 points with a maximum points total of 42 points if we win both our games.
Even if Wingate win on Thursday, that would only put them on 41 points, a total which we can surpass, assuming that they don't get any points from their final game (and we win both of ours!!!)
With only 2 sides going down, it would mean that 2 wins guarantees us to be above both Carshalton Athletic (maximum points total of 40) and also Lewes, if they do not win their final game.
Being positive, let' assume that Lewes only get a draw in their final game. Maximum points from our 2 games would then put us above both Lewes and Carshalton Athletic.
Losses for Harrow Borough in their final two games and a loss for Thurrock in their final game (assuming that none of the teams are playing each other!!!) would see us comfortably survive with 5 teams potentially below us.
If luck favours us and we do manage to pick up maximum points, it is only Enfield of the 7 Clubs immediately above us that we cannot overtake.
The stuff of dreams, but do we have anything else left!
Everyone at the bottom winning their remaining games sees us relegated in 21st position but I, for one, believe that if we can keep our end of the equation up by winning both games, we will definitely get a favour somewhere else. At least one favour.
On the performances of late, taken over 90 minutes (but sadly having to overlook the final result), I think and believe, in my heart at least, that we can survive
No if we win our 2 games its 99% certain we stay up, as Wingate would have to beat Lowestoft by 4 goals at least, you forget it is wingate v cray on the last day and they both can't get past 42, and if we win 2 games our GD will Improve. Hope that cheers you up
Who said we should throw it all away in one go? your reading things into posts that aren't there.
The supporters have been patient enough ask them, no progress in 5 years or so, many supporters driven away, at odds with the local council (never a good idea)
The end of the road is nigh
Blessed are the meek!

THe usual huff and puff last night but it all fell down in the penalty area as we have no goalscorer so cannot see us winning the last 2 or even scoring.
Ryman South for us and what an embaressment that must be for the club officials or 'The Knights of the Kitchen Table' as I will now always refer to them as we have a no better set up than a County League team.
Many questions need answering.
The Bury supporters last night all could not understand why we were bottom of the league with all that FA Cup money we won. i must mention the Bury keeper, Marcus Garnham who is outsanding and great to have a bit of banter with. At the final whistle last night he removed his gloves and shook the hands of all of us behind the goal, classy.
So many 'ifs' and 'buts', it's so tight that on Thursday night we could either be out the bottom 2 or relegated. It's going to be one hell of a nerve wracker up there
In terms of goal scoring, its safe to say that the Elvis Hammond ( Who had a great pedigree ) & Gareth Williams transfers havent worked out ( Although still time for Williams to make himself a hero possibly in the last two games ) N'Diaye although not a forward as such scored 7 in 12 i think for his previous club at conference level but unfortunatly hasnt replicated those goals here.
The Bradley Goldberg ligament Injury has clearly been the biggest loss in this department and it has been a massive blow that its kept him out this long.
Our fit forward line currently is Attwood, Adams ( versatile and not strictly a striker i know ) Okojie, Camara, Williams, and N'Diaye ( Ditto same exemeption as Adams as in not really being a striker )
Is there enough goals there to stay up? well Zac is the only guranteed proven consistant goalscorer there with the others capable of chipping in a couple each hopefully and still think we're more than capable of winning the two matches, think its a general lack of goals from other areas of the pitch that have hampered us rather than just a strikeforce issue, Josh leaving has in my opinion affected our goal scoring and danger from corners and free kicks as Ben Judge although a very good defender doesnt provide the same level of threat in the air and Joshs presence also drew defenders away from Sean in those situarion as since Josh left teams have been double and triple marking him on set pieces making it remarkable that he is still able to score at those occasions.
Aside from Sean our other defenders have scored 1 goal between them, this doesnt make them poor players by any means and i think defensively they are doing their job effectivly but certainly affects our goals tally putting more pressure on the strikers and meaning that if we conceed we currently struggle to score more than the opposition.
Bradleys ratio of 17 goals in 32 matches is very good and shows us what we've missed, Zac with 14 is our only other player in double figures.
As mentioned above replacements have been brought in and tried with some serious money being paid out overall but for whatever reason it just hasn't been a replacement in the respect of goals scored for Bradleys injury.
Still if we win the next two matches 1-0 ( which i think we have a fair to decent chance of ) then hopefully we will be able to work on this problem next season in the same divison!
If you think Attwood is a proven goal scorer then you are in cloud cuckoo land. his shots are powder puff he cannot jump to head a ball and is brushed aside like an old crisp packet.
it was clear when The lesser spotted got injured that the club should have gone and signed a serious striker rather than waste the money on loan players. I know this has worked in the past but this season The Knights of the Kitchen Table have got it all wrong and now they must suffer the missed chances. All boils down to trying to run the club on the cheap.
Two quotes from recent posts, firstly from Barry.....
"The Bury supporters last night all could not understand why we were bottom of the league with all that FA Cup money we won".
Then from Dan.
"The FA Cup run brought in around £150,000 for United, which means a great deal to a little club. Since then, United have been able to purchase a new tunnel, a lawnmower...."
He's still our top goal scorer for the last two seasons which is about as proven as we have excluding Bradley.
Agree with you regarding signing a full time quality striker but we are operating with hindsight now and if Elvis had scored 10 - 15 goals as his reputation indicated he was capable of then the move would have been hailed as a ambitious and successful one. As you mention it has worked out in the past and suppose you don't know until you try!
Do you have an idea how much money has been spent on the players brought in so far though Barry? cant imagine it was spare change to get N'Daiye, Warren, East / O'Brian, Murphy and Hammond in from higher level clubs.
I should think we could have got a decent striker or two for less money tha has been paid for the loanees.
Getting older players on loan from higher level clubs is a dangerous game as they usually come with problems and if they were any good their home club would not send out on loan.
I doubt Attwood would be a regular starter for the majority of teams in our league.
You have got to ask yourself this, Concord Rangers average gate around 150 they are in the play off, East Thurrock average gate around 120 they are in the play offs, Hastings utd average gate of over 400 (Not that many pay addmission though) and 100K made from the FA.CUP and will be relgated. something is wrong somewhere. The supporters deserve answers from the Knights of the Kitchen Table.
Interesting to see that Wingate & Finchley are offering free entry to home fans on Saturday to ensure they get a decent crowd cheering them on. I suggest IF we beat East Thurrock tomorrow, something similar by Hastings can only be beneficial to us staying in this league.
'I should think we could have got a decent striker or two for less money tha has been paid for the loanees'
In which case your saying the club have actually overspent on the wrong players rather than been penny piching and not spending the money at all?
I cant imagine that the club would deliberatly overspend if there were better alternatives available for less money which would mean that either those targets were missed by the management or were not there to be bought in the first place.
All transfers / loans are a gamble at any level, look at chelsea spending £50m on Torres or Barcelona spending the equivelnet of 60m on Ibrahimovic, for those numbers that should have gurenteed success by those players but it didnt.
As you say in the past loan deals have come off, so far this year they havent but how can anyone guraentee they will?
In terms of why clubs with smaller crowds could be higher i have a feeling that the fact he pool of available players of the required qulaity to the essex and london clubs is going to be much larger as they have 50 miles of catchment area 360 degrees aground them but being on the coast we only have half of that, the players also generally have to travel further to us pushing their expensises up and therefore costing us more than the other clubs these two factors allowing them to build stronger squads for less cash than we can despite lower crowds. Also many more pro clubs = better loan and youth options surely?
Thats got to have an effect of sorts don reletive to our league position dont you think?
I have to agree with johnw here! Just need that twelfth man again but if it's discounted or free entry, it'll be very short notice around the town - one day in the paper perhaps and word on social networking sites. If it happens then hopefully we can spread the word quick enough.
The argument about us being too far away to attract the right players is an old one. Eastbourne Boro were in the same situation but got to the Conference, Dover must be in a worst position than us regarding but they are in a higher league. So it goes back to the club trying to be run on a shoestring budget hoping this will get us through, well it hasn't this time.
Be great to hear from the Knights of the plans for the future as we will shortly see us at the same level as when they took over so what progress has been made?
Cant disagree about those two clubs as dont know their financial background / backers but how much of the FA cup income can you really gamble in a short period of time on non contract players?
Lewes even now still have a much higher budget than us with very similar conditions as far as i know ,yet are also in deep trouble so raising the budget is not a gurantee of success.
Personally I think that without the ridiculous GK injury situation that we've had since Jan that unsettled the defensive unit and BG injurys we would be nowhere near as low as where we are now, margins are fine at this level. Not the only reason of course, there are hundreads of those but a major influence imo.
Agreed most of the transfers imo havent really worked out hugely successfully generally but with 2 games left as i discovered earlier 2 wins should save us so they still have a chance to make themselves heroes.

Just a thought...........
Both which were sorely needed especilaly the lawnmower as the previous one had died, The tunnel had to be replaced as i understand it for H&S reasons that have been flagged a couple of times by the council and wouldnt have passed the next time,
Not glamouros purchases i know but vital in a different way.
i dont know for a fact but surely this money is was seperate from the playing budget and it would be interesting to see how much people would want spent on new players and what had been already so far this season?
I would be surprised if any club aside from Whitehawk and Carshalton had increased their playing budget pro rata in the second half of the season as much we have at certain times with loan players who came in. maybe 1 or 2 but cant imagine much more than that.
How much can you afford to gamble of the hard-won ( and probably once in a lifetime ) FA cup cash halfway through a season?
Other clubs got players in without FA Cup money. The Knights have tried to brainwash us into thinking all these clubs will go bust due to overspending, well they haven't.
if the FA Cup money was so vital to the present invaders then you must ask are are they in a position to run the club in the best interest of the supporters and the town. if not then please gallop off into the sunset and go and invade another kingdom.
Think £100k+ of self made money at this level would be vital to any owner worth their salt?!
Been down the millionaire backer route before and did t work out too well either.
A lot of clubs in this league would be screwed instantly if their money man walked away, like Carshalton and Whitehawk to name but two and look what happened with Lewes!, non league clubs go bust all the time at our level and higher, seems like a different one each week in the non league paper.
Would rather the money is spent evenly over say 5 years giving us a better budget each year than before to get us in a position to aim for Conference South football when we are in a position to cope with it with a solid squad much better than throwing it away all at once in a impatient gamble surely?
It would be great to see how much these clubs have spent on wages etc And with the exception of Whitehawk what have they achieved, wasnt it Carshalton who threw a lot of money at it last season and for what? It's widely known that the club is solvent and doesnt owe a penny, would people prefer to go back to the old days when Gardiner had the club and built up a massive amount of debt for nothing in return and have no club to support?
You say about the lawn mower however we were lucky enough to get a grant for part payment towards that and as Dan has said it had to be replaced as did the old tunnel both were a health and safety risk and an accident waiting to happen.
The pitch has also had a fair bit of additional money paid out on it this season and will also need a few thousand pounds spent on it in the next coming weeks, once again its things people take for granted and are not fully aware of what actually needs to be done each season not to mention the summer works that will be needed to be carried out over the close season, so don't just think that because we got a bumper pay day from the Fa cup this season that money hasn't been spent especially not on players.
I agree that it would of been nice to get a 20 goal a season striker in but as Dan mentioned we had the goal keeper injuries if we hadn't of had that then maybe there would of been a bit more money available to get one in but I know a keeper is just as important as a striker And we've certainly needed that seem this season and pro club keepers do not come cheap.
I never said you did say it, it was the opposite extreme of my argument of prudent spending but is it safe to assume you'd rather more of it was spent a bit quicker than has been so far?
Not to sure if Barry's post was aimed at me or you Dan to be fair, however I was merely saying that paying out a lot on your wage budget wasn't always the answer ie Carshalton last season and if my memory serves me right the £240k that Lewes paid out on players one of the seasons they were relegated (not sure which season). It will be very interesting to see long Whitehawk can sustain paying out the amount of money they are because they will certainly need to dig deep again next season.

Well said Barrie some people on here have no idea I have supported this club for 20+ years and have never witnessed so many winers in all my life why not put the energy you have in your fingers to good use and transfer it to your voices as I know some who moan on here only use there voices to moan at Matches not get behind the team. This season best had his ups and downs but I feel this season has been one of most successful seasons so stop the moaning its getting boring now!!!!!!
In none of my posts have I said to blow the money in one go.
My posts are not aimed at anybody.
i care about my hometown club but it is a crime to do so on this forum a, when you make points that The Knights of the kitchen Table surfs dont like your are told to stop moaning.
Sorry Barry but I thought that your comment about " you're reading things into posts that aren't there" was directed at someone? That's the way I read it anyway.
What planet are you on arrows, the season has been a disaster, you are judged by your league position, not a fortunate cup run. Our performances have been dire, we can't score goals, keep getting players sent off, and you say it's been successful, hate to think what a bad one would be !!!!

I agree with this. Our best performances and luckiest performances came in the cup and not the league. The league table s wha everyone will see and will therefore judge your season by that
Would you 100% swap survival for say getting knocked out in the 2nd qualifying round by Staines then Chris? All that excitement, exposure, cup money and you getting on Radio 5live would never have happened. Don't recall you seeming to0 unfazed about the 'lucky cup run' at the time they interviewed you infant you seemed quite excited which was good to see!
Certainly been the most memorable season we've had with experiences that are almost certain not to be experienced by the club again for a long while. Will stop short of Arrows 'most successfull ever season though!'
Rather that than mid table nothingness every time.
I think memorable is the word however financially its certainly been successful considering there's little financial reward in comparisson regardless if you win the league or get relegated.
Yes Dan I would, I don't deny it's been memorable, but not all for good, if as seems likely we do go down, it will be history repeating itself. I don't support HUFC for a FA cup run, I support a team I want to see get higher in the league pyramid. FA Cup was an enjoyable bonus which has been completely marred by the inadequate performance in the league.
Hastings lion what a silly comment if we were successful in the league crowds of 500 + would be common place at the pilot field and think off the financial benefit that would bring.
I totally agree Chris, the cup run was amazing, never to be forgotten, but it is the league that is the most important of all. What is the point of a cup run when on saturday we are all walking away fed up, again?
The cup run has had a detrimental effect on our league form. The backlog of fixtures has made it very difficult for the team to play to its best. Also, our cup results may have made Sean over loyal to a group of players who have only just avoided relegation in the past few seasons. Missing our 2 best players from that team for most of the second half of the season hasn't helped. As to the players brought in, young players on the way up do seem a better bet than older players on the way down. Always happy to see Rory and Freddie in our present side but would have loved to have a Harry Pell type player. What ever happens in the last 2 matches, hope Sean has the chance to manage next season. If we are relegated, we will definitely need a Jason Prior type striker to get us straight back up.
Words fail me how can Sean stay in charge he has failed miserably, the chairman tried and failed to replace him 3 weeks ago, why would any right minded person think if Sean stayed in charge things would improve, we are more likely to be county league in 14/15. His discipline alone would get most the sack, he makes PDCanio look an angel.
I think you have a bit of a fan club Chris, but I`m not sure of the ,"he makes PDCanio look an angel." bit. I like you think it`s time for change , at least at the begining of next season, where ever we might be
Hastings lion what a silly comment if we were successful in the league crowds of 500 + would be common place at the pilot field and think off the financial benefit that would bring.
How is it a silly comment? When we haven't won a single penny in an Fa cup game for around 6 seasons then benefit by £150k which is an unbelievable amount of money for a club our size and that's deemed as a financial failure is it? Yes I know what you're saying about being judged on league performances etc but we've not had a good league campaign for many a year. So are you saying that in a season where gates are generally down you'd not accept the extra cup money are you?
There are 3 teams with an average attendance of over 500 this season one of which is also at the wrong end of the table like us, I'm sure they'd refuse an extra £150k wouldn't they? interestingly despite having already won the league and assured promotion Whitehawk are mid table of the attendance league with an average of just 200 so doesn't always work out does it that a good league campaign would generate a gate of 500 does it?
Think you 150k is over the top by the time you pay tax and other deductions, of course I'm not saying that about cup money, but you implied that it made no financial difference whether top or bottom of league, that is rubbish as gate size makes a lot of difference.
No I implied that financially it had been a success benefiting from an extra £150k pre tax of course but still turn over and not budgeted for. Tell Lewes they're having a successful season with an average gate of 528 and sitting just two places above the drop and still possible they may go down.
I am not interested in Lewes their finances are a mystery to everyone. How can their not be financial benefits from being promoted and not relegated like you suggest and you do say that it is very small in your post, just go back and read it. For promotion if club is run properly you will get increased sponsorship, increasing crowds, and more publicity. You wonder why people ? Some postings on here and towing party line, I think you and Dan are really stretching things to the limit sticking up for the club at present.
My post regards little financial comparison was aimed at prize money for each competition and nothing to do with the turnover through attendances etc. I do agree that this could possibly increase he attendances but if you look through the average attendances for the Conference South you'll see that less than half average 500+. So in my opinion its not a given we would automatically increase our average by over 100 it would be great to think it would but like everything in life's nothing's certain.
One other thing despite your beliefs I'm most certainly not towing the line and sticking up for the club as you say, I'm saying it as I see it.

Appoint a manager who has not had any involvement with HUFC at any level for the past 5 years, and give him a minimum budget for the season 13/14, this would only change if more money became available.
So it may mean a completely new squad.
Change admission prices u 16 can sill go free, but 16-21 need to pay say £3, reduce OAP to half price so will probably be. £5 Adults £10 whatever division we are in.
Pay perhaps a semi retired person for 10 hours a week for the months May to August to go around the town to seek sponsorship for the club, and to increase publicity, ie ensuring posters are put up and distributed throughout the Hastings area. (Yes this is a gamble but it may reap rewards).
That's for starters, but its too radical for our Chairman.
-- Edited by ChrisB on Thursday 25th of April 2013 08:54:55 AM
Agree that posters are still worth persisting with although i wonder how much attention people pay to them nowadays, Lewes have obviously got lots of attention for there's due to their owners deciding to splash out on top graphics design but that doesnt come cheap even with probable 'mates rates'
Engagement with all the different elements of the potential support is key and the social media side's importance is growing everyday ( primarily but not exclusivly with the below 40 age group but we have also many 60+ people following the club on Facebook & Twitter etc ) but reaching out to the mass of older support who dont currently come requires a different type of advertising of which posters play a part but their importance has certainly been reduced in the last few years.
Personally i feel traditional local media advertising is still worth looking at and of course involves a cost but the return can be good and can bring a constant stream of revenue for a 'one off cost' per person.
I feel that local radio can play a bigger part as occasionally listen to Arrow but almost never hear anything about us since the Boro match.
I believe there is lots of good business ideas that could help the club out and promote even educate the local community. Like Dan said have few Hastings United FC events, displays in the town and in Priory Meadow with leaflets handed out advertising the club. Also have the clubs mascot there so family's can take pictures, have a raffle to raise funds, have someone taking email addresses and send them regular HUFC news letters. This I feel wouldn't cost to much and it could make a big difference.....!!!!!!!
Hey guys. Been a long time since I've been on and a lot has happened.
Here's an idea. Is it worth asking Dave Walters to publish what the money from the FA Cup run has been spent on? Would save a lot of speculative guesses from disgruntled supporters. Bit of transparency is usually a positive thing. It's something I've always had an issue with the club about, its very hard to find anything out, so personally I disagree with those saying the supporters should keep quite because they no nothing about the club. I think it would be a good idea to share information with the supporters.
I don't see the club sacking Sean. He may resign but I don't see a sacking. There's a longer term plan going on I believe which involves growing the club over several years. Unfortunately sometimes that means going down a level, reorganising and then pushing back up, although I must admit, that Southern league is a beast to get out of.
I too would support a free entry day (what supporter wouldn't) to beef up the crowd and see the boys home across the line, but there's no guarantee the club could afford it. I imagine the £150k is largely spent or ringfenced for other things now. One could weigh up the cost of going down vs lost revenue in gate receipts for that last game, but then you could make the game free and still go down. Not an easy decision to make for the Chairman. As Liam said, also cutting it fine now with time to promote it.
I don't see us beating ET, but I see a home win on the last day personally. One can only speculate if that will be enough. Depressing times but there is still a chance. COYU's.
