Totally agree Tim, what an excellent performance and a thoroughly deserved victory by our lads. Couldn’t understand why the second goal was disallowed. Apparently offside but the referee seemed to take ages before talking to the linesman . Excellent crowd. Looking forward to next week already.
That was a very enjoyable yet stressful game. The two yellows for the sending off were fair enough I thought. Akinwande was a real handful especially in the first half, and his pace along with others up front is a real asset. Rodari had some really good moments but drifted out of the game at times. Having the neat play of Lovatt back is great, but I wonder if he needs to bulk up a bit in this league. Ufuah worked hard all game but maybe could have shot earlier the couple of times he was half through on goal. And Vose winning it with a threaded direct free-kick was lovely, after he had a previous one chalked off, presumably for an offside deflection? The less said about his run up for the missed penalty the better, but it was a good save from their ‘keeper. Also a mention for the pretty heroic defending in the last few minutes - blocks, headers, tackles, hard-running… it was all there.
To win at Dulwich is a great result, top work from everyone.
What I did find a little strange is that it seemed that a lot of the home supporters viewed the game as a sort of social gathering ,having a good time irrespective of the result…….still if it brings in revenue then good luck to them.
Over the last 10-15 years or so Dulwich have become something of a ‘hipster’ club to follow (although I don’t know if they like that label). Lots of students also go to watch them. I heard one conversation after the game where home supporters were trying to work out what the score was… one or two ales had I think!
Having said that they have a fan base and club with a strong social conscience and do loads of good stuff in the community. And the supporters in the stand were very pleasant, some congratulated us and wished us well for the season. I live not too far away and it’s not uncommon to catch a glimpse of a pink scarf or two out and about.
Sorry to miss this one, particularly after the disappointment of not knocking over Whitehawk. My last visit to Dulwich was in our 2006/7 promotion season…..totally outplayed and 3-0 down at half time. Final score 3-3 with Sammy Adams hitting the bar in the last few seconds. That was one to remember.
