No complaints….shaded first half and if Joe had converted  his chance just before half time may have been a different game. Canvey stepped up a gear in the second half and eventually deserved their win. Blatant pulling fo Freddie’s shirt which I thought should have been a penalty on another day. Thought their pocket  size Matchday programme was a good innovation for a £1. Playoff hopes fading but still a chance.

Bit of a disappointing afternoon in the end. I thought we bossed the first half with the majority of the ball and some good interplay between the forwards. Our goal was scrappy but well deserved. Second half was a different story with two excellent goals from Canvey and a third from a penalty, after we were the architects of our own downfall when Hull and Worrall combined to lose the ball in midfield. We looked dangerous at set pieces all day, with the strong wind causing unusual hang times for the ball. Freddie was good but we faded and looked a bit incohesive second half. Other results mean it’s an uphill battle to reach the playoffs now, but there’s still hope.

Have to point out the ridiculous queuing situation - queued to get in the ground then had to queue at the bar to pay the entry fee, meaning I got to the ground at 2:45 and still missed the first 15 minutes of the game.

As Londontown fan says it was a silly system to get in ….if you had cash you paid at the turnstile but if you wanted to pay by card you were let in and had to pay in the long bar queue. I wonder how many got in for free.
Whilst on the subject of paying, how is it that Premier League supporters who had season tickets ..Spurs,Arsenal ,West Ham etc got in for a fiver whereas the genuine Non league supporter had to pay full price. Doesn’t make sense.

Shame that second goal didn't go in when Dave Smith's shot came back off the post and Freddie could have got a penalty. Two quality goals from Canvey. Need a good win next week.

Ah is that what all that was about Phil, thanks for clearing that up. I’m all for non-league clubs encouraging people to turn up, innovative ideas should be encouraged - kids for free, the occasional ‘free entry for all’ game, loyalty card scheme with every tenth game for free, and so on, but yeah, what they did today was perhaps a bit inconsistent and galling for genuine fans.

It honestly never occurred to me to cheat the system today and simply not join the bar queue, kind of wish I had now!

Just one more point about the game, Gbode looked genuinely injured when he received treatment in the first half, and didn’t seem the player he can be afterwards. I think we really missed Popey after that, could have replaced him.

One of the attractions of Non-league football is the friendly atmosphere at matches. Throwing liquid, either beer, water or worse and directing offensive remarks or chants towards opposition players should play no part in following Hastings United. Really hope this behaviour isn't tolerated at Hastings United.

Did this actually happen yesterday? Please give a full account of when and where these events happened so we can all understand it more clearly.

Also, who shouldn't be tolerating 'it'? The club is operated by fans and volunteers. If you don't like something *you* can say something about it there and then. Self policing has an important part to play here. Can't leave everything to others just because they have hi-viz or a club tie.

Yeah I saw someone chucking liquid towards the Canvey ‘keeper and then noticed the plastic cup had ended up on the pitch.

yeah i saw that I also told people to say nothing to the keeper at the end of the game as he was goading us, to be honest its fair game if we say things to him he can say them back not an issue in my mind. he doesnt know who is saying what and he called me a few things despite me clapping their cracking goal in when they went 2-1 up

Im all for banter with the goalie but only so far and definitely not lobbing stuff at him no matter what it is, but i think georges point on self policing is a good one, we are not enemies we are fellow fans and we should be able to talk to each other BUT be able to understand that we may not agree and be able to cope with that

If fans are not comfortable with that theres a supporters club go to them.

Personally think the adults concerned should be capable of knowing the limits of acceptable behaviour but if George and Chris are willing to do the "policing" good luck to them. Watching the Canvey keeper meeting his wife and kids at the far end of the ground, just grateful they didn't witness the scenes.

Self policing is ok to a point but it only takes a referee to include something in his match report and the club will face a nasty fine which it can ill afford. I stood behind the goal at a recent home game and the abusive language and chanting was ridiculous. When there are a number of individuals acting in this way, it’s not easy for a single supporter to call them out. It is ultimately up to the club and stewards to enforce the ground rules home and away. It’s a shame that a small minority are causing these problems and giving us an unwelcome reputation.

They should. Some aren't. The children won't be capable of it yet, either, and require guidance without vilification  If I don't like something, I'll say so there and then. Chris is the same. If everyone does the same instead of just moaning here, we'd reach some sort of consensus eventually.

Keepers get abuse every week from all fanbases. Ask Louie. That may be why the keepers family are at the other end. The goalkeepers usually give as good as they get and we always clap the keeper at the end, too.

In the meantime, if you're happy to provide a list of approved chants, phrases and comments to be used at Hastings United matches, I'll happily throw it in the bin.

Do we need a consensus about throwing things at the opposition 'keeper? Thought it would be obvious.

Two things here…

1) Given the level of aggression I’ve occasionally seen from SOME (not the majority) of the group behind the goal over recent years, I would not be comfortable going over and questioning their behaviour. Stripeyshark, you know them all better than I do and maybe you’re just braver than me.

2) The club recently made a plea to supporters not to take it too far, where it was made pretty clear what standard of behaviour is acceptable. This isn’t just a couple of us moaning, the club itself has made this point already.

We do not want a reputation or to cause the club any trouble, as has been pointed out.

1. Children do know the difference between right and wrong, but will sometimes choose wrong if that is the example being shown to them by adults.

2. It sounds like you take your moral compass from what others do ('Keepers get abuse every week from all fanbases') to justify actions which are wrong, which doesn't stand up to even the most basic scrutiny. And admitting that the goalkeeper's family was wise to be at the other end says a lot, and is a sad indictment of the situation.

3. Your final comment 'throw it in the bin' says everything and finishes your thoughts off perfectly........

It seems pretty simple to me. The consistent use of highly abusive language, including the ‘c’ word, and the throwing of anything at opposition players is plainly unacceptable. The quicker the minority realise this, the quicker we can move on. Or do we just say everybody else does it so it’s ok? We are a family oriented football club, not a place where you can just turn up and shout what you want, when you want, without boundaries.

We put ourselves out as being a family oriented football club, but I'm afraid we are not. I would love to bring my grand daughter to a match, but there is no way I would subject a 10 year old to that.

 1. The people you are criticising have done more to get children involved positively than you realise. 'Right' and 'wrong' is something for you to decide about your own behaviour, not others.

2. You don't know me, so speculation about my 'moral compass' is just daft. I admitted nothing, only suggested a reason.

3. Hastings recycle, everywhere we go.

We are family orientated. Children enjoy being in all parts of the ground, watching the team and getting involved with support.

Throwing things at players is bad, yes. We're all agreed on that. Would like to make clear that it is only beer / water and not what others are suggesting. Clear agreement on this.

Shouting whatever you want without 'boundaries' is actually very fun. Children can hear words and be taught not to repeat them.

Although I don't know you, your last sentence suggests that it I am not suffering any great loss. Life is too short for me to waste any more time on your bizarre comments and outlook on life.

If you go to any NL or EFL ground and shout the c word repeatedly, or throw beer/water at a goalkeeper, you will get ejected. It’s not tolerated. But it appears that it is accepted by some at the PF on the basis that it’s fun and children can be told not to repeat vile profanities. It’s no surprise we have an issue.

Thank you for being more specific. Wouldn't like to compare to NL or EFL as there are lots of ordinary things you can't do there either. Agree with the throwing of anything and repeatedly shouting c word. Not something I engage in.

Swearing in chants has actually gone down since myself, Robbie and now Ben have been doing the bulk of the writing.

Sometimes people will take it too far with emotions running high and I think this should be understood too.
