First of all congratulations to our long term supporter Roy on winning £95 on the 50/50 with ticket 3365. As for the game Canvey Island not a bad side although could not understand why we did not get a penalty immediately before they scored . However we plugged away and got a deserved equaliser. Not sure what the argy bargy was about leading to their player getting sent off.
The real heroes for me tonight were the 472 supporters who turned up on an absolutely freezing night. True supporters everyone of you.
Certainly no less than we deserved after another dominant second half display attacking the Cole Warren end, which now seems to be our preferred option.
A rather forgettable first 45 minutes, memorable only for coming within a whisker of going one up and then seconds later being a goal down to something of a freak goal.
No shortage of effort today but rather too many wild shots off target (where is Sam H. when you need him) and a lot of difficulty producing clear cut chances despite dominating possession.
First half, slow build up, don't think we completed a pass in the final third. Thought Hastings were relentless in the second half, non-stop pressure and a deserved equalizer. Kane had so much ball down the left and caused them problems. Well done to Louis for that vital save from Danny Parrish to stop them going 2-0 up,. Almost a repeat Haringey goal from Alex and a rampaging Finn made it a compelling second half
First half was terrible, the reason, I think, was so much passing back, you can`t score from back there, and then there was their goal, I don`t agree Mick, it was not a freak goal, it was a well taken opportunity, Louis should never be that far out of his goal, but not for the first time, and it will probably happen again, if he stands around the center circle.
The second half was totally different, we relentlessly kept the ball in their half and it paid off. Can anyone tell me why we didn`t start the game the way we finished, it seems we turn it up at the end, why not from the beginning?
But another draw, that we deserved, but we need a couple of wins.
Mike,
Please don't misinterpret my 'freak goal' comment. It was a brilliant opportunist strike from their player that gave Canvey the lead.
It was what came before that was pretty unusual. We had three or four point blank shots at goal, including a big penalty shout, all of which were repelled before a desperate clearance found their one forward who took one touch before finding the target from 50 yards.
You just don't see such a rapid sequence of events very often.
One up ? No ! One down !
